Well I don’t hate them much but today specially feeling like throwing my phone out of this window along with my credit card.

Calling their customer service for the 3rd time…

The only message i could hear is “Sorry all our phone banking officers are busy, your call is important to us, please continue to hold the line”

Now also she said this message for the 12th time..

and now..”We apologize for keeping you on hold….please call back later…thank you” well that was the 3rd time in a row…

I lost my net banking password and asked them to renew it and damn they sent me new password by post after waiting for 10 days and what now ? I am still not able to login…

Sucks…customer service is bad according to me…account holders have to wait for such a long time…I tried thrice but still couldn’t talk to any person…..all I could hear was voice message….

So if you are thinking of going for HSBC credit card then don’t expect much from their customer service…they won’t pick the phone even if it is 11.30 in the night…

  7. HSBC, the ones who advertise profesional customer care and social skills to all customers, “we can help, and that with a smile.
HSBC have withdrawn my debit card knowingly putting me in a very awkuard position simply because I have overdrawn my account several times over the past six months. The lowest amount overdrawn was £3.75, I got charged £25 for that, the highest amount, which is the most recent is £130, which they also charged me for. I don’t have an overdraft with the bank, but I do have a verbal aggreement they stop all transactions when my account has reached zero funds, something they obviously can’t manage, now they are dictating to me with a hint of psychological terror that I have been a naughty boy and missused my account, the penalty for that is; Debit card withdrawal and a 3-6 month account review, find another way of managing your monthy out-goings.
All in all, exelent interpersonal skills, I don’t think. HSBC they call thenselfs a world leading bank yet they have the three main ingredients for domination; Dictation, psychological terror and punishment just for going a few pounds over the top.
    “Discusting methods.

  9. I work with HSBC in Malaysia and guess what?! Being the top 5 or top 3 world’s most profitable bank, they pay very very low, not even up to the industry’s rate! And eventho making profit more than 9bil a year, they’re very stingy in paying bonus. I’m not asking for 10grand every month, enough if they can match up to their counterparts.I first thought its probably just here, but my friends in US and UK who work with HSBC say “HSBC is known to pay shit everywhere” and turn over of people quitting is very very high. but they’re good in covering up to make their workers happy by doing clubbing, parties and events. If you want glamour, you can work here.but pay and increament is very bad.

  17. my nightmare with HSBC continues. I sold my business and had payed off 2 loans in full. I told the bank that i would no longer be responsible for any loans from the new owner. But the bank intentionally never took my name off the accounts and they are now sueing me for $75,0000. They told me straight out that they never would release me from my guarantees from the paid off loans and that they were going to “hold on to me” until i paid off every dime because i had assets and a flawless credit report with access to money. These people are truly evil. They then dug up information on my family, inlaws, and the like including a list of their assets and social security numbers. They even sent people to spy on my wife and children to intimidate me into paying. I have bank documents requesting this. I have a lawyer and am fighting back but it has been a horrible experience. I don’t owe these people a dime and i will fight them in court and beyond if i have to.

  21. HSBC is the worst bank in the world ever!
Apparently i have a security error on my account thenks to them putting my date of birth wrong because the indian who cannot speak english who lives thousands of miles away in a call centre, couldnt understand what i was saying. nothing against indians but why employ them when we all speak english! plus their call centres are realy quiet when you ring them up.
So they block my account and stop me buying anything an request i go into my local branch with tonnes of identification as if some one else is going to go in an re-open my account for me!
So everyone works on a week day and can’t be bothered to go in after work, so you go in at the weekend hoping to sort it out, get there nice an early as everyone knows banks shut about 12:00 on a saturday, but no not HSBC, no they have to be the only bank in the whole town who doesent open on a saturday!!!!
So much for the worlds ‘LOCAL BANK’

    What a load of wankers!

  25. I agree.

I banked my business through them, had home contents insurance with them, and my wife banks her business through them too!

So i asked for a personal business account. First they asked for ID, fine no problem. “no sir, we need a months statement, not two weeks”. Fine No problemo! “Actually, now we want 3 months statements”. Erm…ok.

“Sir we will have to close all your other accounts with other banks”. Why i replied, “Strict policy”. I rang HSBC, they said that was rubbish. He did it anyway when i told him not to!!!!!!!!

In the end i withdrew all my accounts with HSBC and i am happily banking elsewhere.

$40 late fee,$40 for being over the limit. They blamed the lateness from the USP. Once again I paid in full knowing I was being taken. Stupidly I put the card back in my wallet! I never heard from them again until…1/2007. I tried to use the card and was denied.I called them and asked what’s up? They said my acct. was just put in collections and I owe $512! I inquired for what, they had no records but wanted to set up a payment plan. After 1-1/2 hrs on the phone I was disconnected 6 times! Still not one shred of info. Nothing! Just pay, for what I kept saying. “we don’t have access to those records” I am sure there was a small extra penalty they neglected to tell me about that has built to $512. How do you fight the Devil? IF YOU SEE HSBC ON ANTHING, RUUUUUNNNN. There ought to be a law.

  43. I hate HSBC with a passion! My home loan was sold to them, so I didn’t choose them. My husband and I made our first mortgage payment before our loan was sold to HSBC. HSBC kept sending us a statement saying we were delinquent on that first payment. We told them that we made our first payment to the company who sold them our loan. We sent them backup documentation to prove it numerous times. They had their incompetent, rude, and down-right idiotic service representatives call us every month and ask us for that missing payment. According to the RESPA laws, it is their responsibility to get it from the company that sold them our loan! We talked to managers, and their managers. This went on for 8 months! Finally, the company that sold our loan to them helped us resolve it. What a mess. And they were so rude and unhelpful. I will never voluntarily do business with HSBC!

  45. HSBC def sucks!… i live in NYC and i check my online banking statmenet everyday (being a broke college student i would like to know where my money is) and last thurs (dec 7 06) i found that $250 of my checking money was missing, no statment on where it when… so i called HSBC and they said to call t-mobile and t-mobile said to call HSBC to cancel the transaction. so i called HSBC, and they said they couldnt do anything about it except give me a new card with a new number and that i had to physically go to the bank myself and fill out a report. this process would have my money back into my account for at least 2 weeks…. BUT! since i caught the purchase on the day it was made y couldnt the fucking bank just cancel the transaction from the begining instead of putting me through all this trouble, esp around the holiday season when im broke!!!… i fucking hate T-mobile.. and Kristen, part of their bank security was such an inconsiderate bitch when i was telling her my story on who i suspected used my account number. i’m sorry kristen but ur a fucking retard, it was def a representative of reservation rewards becuase after finding out they were taking $10 from my account evey month i called there 1800 number to have to account canceled and asked for a full refund, it wasnt until the 3 call that i actually got the idiots on the other lline to send back my money after giving them my card number!!, it was def them b.c i DONt make online purchases (kristen that retard tried to force upon that i did, and plus i have a mac with added security so i doubt or it is less likey that they could hack into that)…. so with that said, HSBC is the worst bank, and i’m going to open a wamu account that is right across the street!

THey are the most inept, inconsiderate, arrogant, f*cked up group of human beings I’ve ever encountered; They promised NO CHARGES EVER GOING IN OR OUT OF MY ACCOUNT and guess what? THey started deducting $100 per account that holds funds in it. Not only for me — but my husband. WHen I called and nearly had a stroke - they finally gave our money back to us. Now I have to worry about incurring charges when I take my own F*CKING MONEY OUT OF MY OWN ACCOUNT. I have left the money there for fear of dealing with these thieves. I am going to sue them. People who work at banking institutions should have scruples and morals and be trustworthy. It’s robbery without a gun. I wish the worst fate on all of the people that have caused me this much stress. F*CK OFF HSBC - you and your $50million a year Officers will all be in prison soon and someone else will be making a deposit to you but it won’t be the kind you’re used to - twats!

  53. HSBC “the world’s local bank” are about as useful as a concrete parachute. I have been trying to send sterling from China to the UK for over a month now and the best advice HSBC could give me was to “put it in the post”. These jokers rake in 9 billion a year, transact business all over the world and they can’t even help me do something that should take about 10 minutes. I even went to Hong Kong to try and send the money but HSBC in Hong Kong said that i couldn’t do it without opening an account! However, all the time that they’re been messing me around they’ve been charging interest to my credit card account. Thanks!

If anybody ever hass to send money from abroad to the UK then make sure its dollars and make sure that you use Western Union.

I called my bank in order to transfer some money, but the operator in India couldn’t even get the amounts correct. I tried to call my branch but they had changed their numbers without informing me. I pay for this service. They were meant to call me back.

I ended up having to pay customs in cash. £5000 in £10 pound notes is not the kind of money you really want to be carrying around. I’ve had the same problem with my personal account. I’ve closed my business account and will be closing my personal account which I have had for over 18 years. HSBC MUST STAND FOR SOMETHING. Happy Sad Banking C*NTS.

  81. I hate HSBC. I just got off the phone to them and typed “I hate HSBC” into Google. I got to this page.

They dicked me about so much last year. All my problems with them stem from bad communication on their part, from messages not being passed on from one department to another, or from one branch to another. I just want to phone an individual branch, not someone in another country who doesn’t understand me. But I can’t.

I moved 250 miles across the country a few years ago and they won’t let me move my account-holding branch to my new home town, not without closing it, which funnily enough is what I’m going to do. So the jellyheads keep sending my stuff to the bank 250 miles away, despite my slow, carefully enunciated phone calls abroad to PLEASE SEND THINGS TO LONDON.

Every time I lose a card or need a replacement because mine is knackered, I want to shoot myself, because it means long, tortured phone calls and things being sent to the wrong end of the country.

I actually wrote a long, long letter to them last year listing all the ways in which they f*cked me off, including a wasted 500-mile round trip to collect some cards that weren’t there, and I got a letter of apology, and £100 of goodwill into my account. Try it. Go to the customer-complaints thing on the website, let rip and threaten to close your account. Sadly, I learned from this that being an angry, complaining pain in the ( x ) gets you somewhere in life.

My friends have recommended Smile to me as well. I’m moving over there.

Then they stopped by debit card as a ‘fraud prevention’ measure over a £36 transaction in Marks and Spencer! When I called Sri Lanka they didn’t have a clue why as it was ‘a sytem-generated’ thing. 87. I am a HSBC customer and have been for the last 8 years. I took out a Managed Loan 2 1/2 years ago as I had some money problems (like most people do). When going to the bank, in good faith, and meeting the manager I asked her for a straight-forward loan. She suggested the Managed Loan but reluctant to explain what it was. I, suffering from dyslexia and finding reading, writing, spelling an every day task in my life, took the Managed Loan. It wasnt to my knowledge til 2 years later when I noticed the loan wasn’t reducing a whole lot, I looked into the matter. The loan they had misled me to take I could clearly see this would take more time to pay off than what I intended. Now I am stuck with a loan that I can’t pay off for quite some time. HSBC had taken advantage of my disability and has stuck me in debt indefinitely. So I’d like to take this moment to thank HSBC for being so dishonest, nasty, misleading and downright cruel to a good customer.

If anyone has tips on how to get out of Managed Loans, I’d be more than grateful to hear from you. Please contact me: tris@fsmail.net
Thank you and good luck to everyone!

  91. What people do forget when slating big banks like HSBC is that behind all the technology and behind the huge profit, there are people like you and me. Now you and I both know that ultimately, we are only Human, and sometimes, we get things wrong. Mistakes can be made and ultimately fixed.

HSBC, like most financial institutions, has a complaints procedure which is regulated by the FSA. If you feel that something has gone wrong, the service you have received fallen short of that which you are entitled to expect or generally have a gripe you wish to raise then take it to the banks attention.

If you don’t raise your concerns - Nothing will change, the person who made a mistake will not know they have done so and continue doing it, your feedback isn’t noted and the bank runs along thinking everything is fine.

With reference to bank charges and the likes, clearly the OFT Jury is still out on the legality of them however, they can’t be more transparently laid out in the Terms and Conditions if they tried. Should you incurr a charge on your account once in a blue moon, it gets taken into consideration. Ultimately, when you are incurring charges its not going to be your best financial position at the time, but you know what. That’s life.

On a side note to the charges, I should point out that out of all the major UK banks - HSBC has the cheapest and fairest charging structure that I have encountered.

People need to take more ownership and care of their finances and stop just moaning and blaming banks for their debt. The financial industry does not hold a gun to your head and force you to buy a new car. Like most things in life - you make a choice.

Finally, the UK is one of the last countries in which you are given FREE banking. The majority of other countries charge a monthly tarriff simply for having a standard current account. I remember in Austraila many years ago I used to get charged per statemented transaction that debited my account alongside my monthly operating fee.

Customer Service is a wonderful thing when you get it. Like I said earlier though, if HSBC or anyone else lets you down the best thing you can do is sleep on it, put pen to paper the next morning and get your thoughts and concerns in writing to a head office customer relations department.

You never know, they might throw some money your way as a “Gesture of Goodwill”

    Have fun.

  95. I opened an HSBC online savings account because the interest rate is good.

But for an ONLINE ONLY account, they are doing incredibly stupid and antiquated things like sending 3 separate postal mails, each sent 4 days apart, with bits of log in information.

I understand the need for security, but come on now, no one else in the world works that way. So it has been one week, and it will be one more week before I can even access my account.

They’ve taken my money from my local bank, but when it will be credited to them and how much “float” they will earn using my case is a mystery.

This sort of internet ineptitude makes me wonder why they even tried to start an “internet only” account.

(A side note: one of their branch offices in Istanbul was bombed a few years back: at the time it was thought to be politically motivated. Now I am convinced that it was just a pissed-pff customer.)

it is horrific that such a sophisticated bank like HSBC that spends millions on advertising campaigns can’t have a system that works for their customers..
Oh I was also told to call back today when they might and only might have found out what was wrong!
Anyone else feel like moving banks? or are they all the same? Cruel world..

Then I call the bank hold for 15 minutes and then the guy say’s you have to call back because his computer is down, he is apprantley unable to transfer me to a colleague who’s system is working! Tell me - how does the worlds richest bank have such a crap phone system? Then I call back again and hold for a further 20 minutes.

Anyway the system now shows that the money I wanted to draw out has actually come out, when it hasn’t and they have to launch an investigation. The end result is that I have no cash on me and cant meet my mates today liked planned! Thanks HSBC for ruining my day!

  109. I also have had the misfortune of dealing with these incompetant twats. Basically they have just shut off all my accounts as an old joint account I have went into overdraft, instead of telling me and letting me sort it out, they sent a couple of non-existant letters, then with no notice cut me off, no emails or phone calls not even a note on my internet banking, they are scummy cunts if ever I met one, and I’ve had a phone with Three! To make things worse it took about 12 people on their phoneline and arond 4 hours to even find the problem, they are so stupid they did not even know which account it was! I mean how stupid do you have to be, I cannot believe I trusted them with my cash.

I was only £60 out however they refused to reinstate any account so I could solve the problem, insisting that I pay off the £60 first, easier said than done when they have all your cash! They refused to see any of their wide and varied flaws.

Still atleast I can now change banks and fuck them off all the cash they would have made out of me getting a mortgage, ISA etc with them. Only problem is through their stupidity they have managed to get me a bad credit rating so bad I’ll have to plead with someone else to give me an account.

I can safely say I hate them more than anything in the world, except Three, but that’s another story…

  111. I totally agree! If you are thinking of doing ANY business with HSBC think it through vry carefully! I wish I would have seen this sight before going into debt with them for the rest of my life!! I own a van I am financing through them and I fell behind in my payments a little bit but, I set up payment arangements and they agreed to them and said that would be no problem at all…Well 4 days later they repoed the van and to top it off continued to take the money out of my bank for the payment arangements. Then sent me a letter telling me I needed to pay the entire amount of the loan or I wouldn’ get it back! Then said oh never mind you can get it back (after adding reposesion fees and ruining my credit) for just $800 (the loan is for $10,000 There is much much more but as soon as this van is paid for I will tell them to screw themselves and never bank there again!

  113. Everyone on here is right, I work for the twats and i can tell you that the reason there is so many mistakes is that everyone is chasing unrealistic targets. The work output they require is just ridiculous. Say you have a batch of work and you come up against a problem that might take you a little longer than normal you’ll fall behind on your hourly rate which is tied into your bonus and ultimately if it continually falls below, your job is at risk. So staff are just not dealing wth queries properly as a result. It all boils down to profit margin they are the greediest bank in the world. And i would advise anyone to give them a wide birth.

  115. HSBC are evil.

18months ago I asked for help after struggling with a personal loan and credit card debts (the credit card was their fault in the first place). The only suggestion was a managed loan which combines all debts you have with them. NEVER EVER EVER go for this option. The apr is shit, it takes ages to pay off and you can’t get out of it unless they decide you can so you can’t get credit anywhere.

They called me from their call centre in the Phillipines to tell me they were going to charge me an overdraft fee for me going overdrawn. The only reason I got overdrawn was their fault as well!!

If only I could get the funds, I would pay the loan off an immediately close my account with a smile and a kiss my arse!!

I waited for 15 minutes every time I called, even called at 2:30AM and after waiting for 20 minutes they still “experienced heavy calling volume” at bloody 2:30am. 129. Oh my, I really wasn’t aware of how naff HSBC was…
I’m currently in Austria studying, and the friendly people at HSBC think that now’s just about the right time not to give me a temporary overdraft extension! How thoughtful.

Another point which has been painfully pointed out to me is how much money HSBC makes/takes from their own customers when abroad: How come it costs 1.75gbp to take my own money out of the bank, when Swedish people (who are, just like us, outside of the Eurozone) can do the same with no fee at all? I’ve been here 3 months now and have paid around 1gbp/day that I’ve been here; yes, that’s nearly €150.

I phoned them up to arrange the extension, which might I say I have managed to get before, and promptly got rid of it within 4 weeks.. They said, we can’t do anything to your account until Jan 06. I asked why, they said they can’t do anything to my account until Jan 06. I said ok, but why? They said…

Oh why and when did HSBC become this piece of useless crap?!

    Today I found out that…..

    1. They had stopped my overdraft balance without any notification.

    2. they had stopped my direct debit that I was using to pay my credit card with them….left me in the poo…now heavily in debt to them…clever tatic methinks HSBC! One way to get me giving them more of my hard earned cash!

    3. After several phone calls and the promise that my overdraft would be reinstated immediately…I found out it hadn’t! AND the department that deals with it is now closed and won’t reopne until after the weekend!!

I’m late paying my rent thanks to HSBC and jall jokes aside, they have left me in some serious poo here.

Deep - a word of warning. I’ve been with HSBC for around 6 happy years…until now. I used to think they were great and would recommended them to so many people. After today….I’m looking at other banks.

I have never had a good experience whilst dealing with HSBC, they are totally incompitent. The people in the call centres are less then helpful, especially when it comes to spelling names and inputting numbers correctly. For example I have just got of the phone to india after hearing the news that my account does not exist. Great news i thought now those swine can stop hassleing me for payment!!
This is the latest in a long line of problems they have caused me. They sent creditcards to my old address twice ‘by accident’. When they replaced my switch card they issued the wrong pin number (it was for the previous card) they did this 3 times!!!.

oh and they threatened to sue me last time I went into my branch, then said I should get some ‘cash in hand work’ so i could pay them!! oh yeah thanks, promote benefit fraud and illegal earnings. yeah sure ill do all that just for you HSBC!!!

anyway in light of the news from india that my account doesnt exist, I am off to see those swine or better still I will compose a letter explaining there faults.

They cut me off incorrectly when I was on Fiji so I had to eat coconuts for three days.

They lost the contracts for my professional studies loan until I begged them to look around carefully for it.

They have not yet payed my defrauded cash back which is only down to their cards being easy to clone.

Luckily I managed to get an internal number from one of the poor kids in India so was able to rant for a clear 10 minutes at some chick in Manchester till she started wimpering. Absolutely refuse to get angry at the staff in India because its surely not their fault that they are undertrained etc but the gypsie slagwagon in Manc got it.

  143. Yup!

    HSBC SUCKS!

I financed some furniture through a major outlet store (MOR) and paid off the account about four months ago. Now I get a letter from HSBC telling me that I must call them and ask them not to sell my personal information from my zero balance account to telemarketers…otherwise…anything goes.

I call and they procede to mine personal data from me until they get to my SSN and I won’t budge. They then tell me that they will not cancel my zero balance account, and that they will sell my information unless I give them my SSN. I went through this three times on two different numbers and finally called the furniture store and griped at them. Apparently, they were shocked that their business partner was doing crap like this. I guess they didn’t know who they went to bed with …eh?

Anyway, they say they are going to escalate this to their corporate level and investigate exactly what is going on.

The really stupid thing is…you can call the HSBC C/S phone number and provide an account number and a zip code and make all sorts of happy information requests and account changes automatically. I pointed this out to the floor suprvisor who denied knowledge of this and suggested I write a letter to cancel my zero balance account.

I hung up the phone and scremed at the wall. :o)

  147. I hate HSBC!! I ordered a new credit card on the 5th July, it’s now 12th August and still don’t have it. The 3 cards they’ve sent me have gone to the place they shouldn’t have, not been picked up and destroyed. The courier company has different information to the bank. The staff at the branch are lovely but the call centre staff are somewhere in india and couldn’t give a shit. The branch manager says there’s something wrong with the new IT system as it’s not the first time it’s happened.

I’ve heard of friends (also this happened to me) having their cards stopped and basically they say it’s fraud when no money has disappeared from their account. Basically, because I used to work for their IT I know how it works, they have a thing that if you do too many transactions in a set period a flag goes off and they think you’re either money laundering or fraud has gone on when really all you’re doing is your christmas shopping! They stop your card then expect you to be at home waiting for a new one! It’s ridiculous.

I’d like to start a Hate Campaign against HSBC and their incompetance. Who’s with me? We can send emails forwarding to all our friends and they can forward to all their friends and collect stories of HSBC’s incompetance and then maybe they’ll sit up and notice. What do you say?
