  1. Hi Deep

Which ISP you are using? My wireless router (DI-524) is not working with my current ISP in Mumabi. Perhaps changing the ISP could help.
    My current ISP is pacenet.
    Please let me know.

    Regards
    Arvind

  2. Hi,
I was on Exattnet earlier and now I am on MTNL Triband.
Mine is DI-724P+ I think, pacenet is on PPPOE i suppose so router should support that. (Most of the new routers do)

    Deep

  3. Thanks for your prompt reply.
Yes pacenet uses PPPOE. But I am not able to login to pacenet dialer when connected through D-Link router.

    Regards
    Arvind

  7. hi,

i am in delhi with mtnl triband. mtnl gave me modem UT-300R2U which is made by some UT-StarCom telecom.

when i connect my Belkin Corp’s wireless router, the router identifies the modem’s WAN link, identifies the PC link, but does not connect to internet. I tried everything that came to my mind, but futile. One thing I am sure is router is fine since I used it just few months back in US.

    Anyone any suggestions?

    thanks
    Chini

  8. Hi everyone.

I am from mumbau and use MTNL’s 59NU pland (256kbps). I use DSL-502T. The speed i get is not even 220kbps, its 110. In modem’s configuration page, download speed is 128 while upload speed is 192. Will doing a firmware upgrade help?

    thanks
    Navneet

  9. Namaskar Friends,

I am presently using a DSL connection for internet (Airtel). The connection is working fine with my PC. I want to simultaneously use my laptop to surf the net and download stuff. Also, is it possible to use internet through my laptop without switching on my PC. My laptop has WLAN, Bluetooth and infrared. Please advisie as to what software or h/w should be installed to solve my problem. Please suggest the economic aspect too.

  10. Hi,
If your router / modem has a wireless port then you can but the best solution would be, Get a wireless router (it should cost arpimd 2500), connect Airtel modem to router and then one wite out to the PC…

so this will make your router as gateway…and you can use the net even if the other machine is off…

    Deep

  11. Oops I missed so many replies..let me reply one by one..

Karan – DLINK wireless routers are good, they will cost aroudn Rs. 2500 without printer port…

adil baig – You need to forward ports on your router..google for port fowarding with your router number and you will find the answer :)

chini – Make sure that you have setup your connection details properly in the router i.e. PPPOE details under option WAN

Navneet – what is the version of your firmware? It looks more like problem from server at exchange…

  12. I have a MTNL Triband connection in mumbai I have got the default router given by MTNL.

Now my brother got his working Belkin Wireless router from USA, I tried to connect my wireless router through the MTNL router however all the excercise is futile.

The Belkin router settign says go to 192.168.1.2 for router settign page however it is just not going to that page.

I need a few suggesting if anyone with MTNL Triband has connected to Wireless router.

    Thanks,
    Hitesh

  13. reply to hitesh –

    do this
    1) connect modem to router and power on both
    2) take a pin and reset router (at back there is a small hole for reset)
    3) now shut off pwr to both
    4) switch on pwr to both
    5) conneect router to PC
    6) router is normally at 192.168.2.1 and modem at 192.168.1.1. u said ur router is at 192.168.1.2. so go to http://192.168.1.2
(or whereever router settings can be accessed)
    7) change router IP to 192.168.2.1 (from …1.1)
basically make sure router’s last 2 fields are not same as modem’s. if modem is 1.1, make router 2.1 .
if modem is 2.1 then make router 1.1
    8) go to “Connection Type” seetitings in router setup. choose pppoe and enter login as tel num, password as mtnl connection password, apply chnages.
    9) reboot everything by pwr shut and on..
    shd be ok now…

  14. Hi All,
I have a MTNL Triband connection in mumbai , MTNL installed UT-300R2U Starcom ADSL Router.
I changed the “Service Password” from http://register.mtnl.net.in/ and rebooted my router to test the change. Then I logged-in to the router interface and as per the manual for this router managed to change the password and rebooted the router as well. The problem since then is that even the router interface http://192.168.1.1 is not accessible now.
I cannot understand whats wrong with changing the password.
Can anybody help me here, is this a known problem with routers from this company “starcom” ???

    thanks in advance,
    Shawn

  15. Where in mumbai can I buy a wireless router to replace the D-link 502T model? And what cost? I called D-link and they suggested DSL G604T but the price is approx. Rs, 6500. Is there a cheaper option?

    Thanks
    Shylesh

  16. Shawn – try piniging the router…are you able to ping it? If not, then the cable might be unplugged or so..coz I dont see any reason for “not connecting” after chaniging password at MTNL site…

Shylesh – Get DI-524 and connect to 502T…DI-524 should cost you around Rs. 2400

  17. hey… im having MAJOR problems with my TriBand connection. First of all, the USB drivers for this D-link 502T modem are pathetic. The modem freezes after maximum 2hours and has to be rebooted to resume normal activity. I’m having real problems recieving incoming connections. I can’t host games on online servers because others aren’t being permitted to join. Even BitTorrent is giving me major problems. I had sorted it out earlier, everything was fine, but then i didnt download much for a few months seeing as i had exams and things, now no matter WHAT i try. USB, ethernet, whatever, nothing at all seems to work. Any help? I’m in Mumbai, so if anybody can physically help me out id REALLLLLYYYY appreciate it, because without BitTorrent, my DSL-NU scheme is worthless.

  18. however, normal browsing and stuff is generally fine. i use skype pretty often to talk to my sister in london.. Theres one more odd thing been happening recently..Its really almost insane! say for instance, i’m using MSN messenger, chatting with someone. I decide to check my mail. so i open internet explorer, and i get the “Page Cannot be displayed” error. i think, maybe i’ve lost my connection or something, but there beeps my messenger to tell my that ive got a message. I try another website, yet again the same error, but the chats working fine. Infact, apart from the chat, NOTHING else is working. Similar scenario would be when im browsing. i notice that all the links on ONE specific page im using work, but if i open another window, its the same as above. What the bloody hell is going on here???????

i have a beetel 220bx adsl2+ modem(from Airtel) and a dlink dsl 502t adsl router(which i got from mtnl delhi). i have 3 pc’s at home(each at different floors) n want to know if someone could help me connect all 3 to the broadband connection without having to turn on a specific pc at all time i dont want to buy a wireless solution but a switch or hub is ok please suggest a cheap n best one and how to config them also tell me which one of beetle or dink is the best

  20. Dlink 502T has got a ethernet port. You can simply buy a ethernet switch and connect to the available port on adsl. The gateway is defined at ADSL. Now you can connect upto 8 PCs on the switch. Only power to ADSL and Switch should be ON.

  21. The problem i m facing is that my internet connection doesnt work properly at night or even in the evering.

After surfing of 10min of webpoages i get an errror saying Cannot load. I literally have to disconnect the line and then get reconnect the line in order for everything to work fine.

I am using the sam router dude i.e. UT Star 300RU like.

And one more thing BEWARE OF MTNL NU Plan USERS.

I always track my dl and ul usage with my Net Meter. And it always shows me correct fig. It wil show u more but never less.

Today i downloaded 20mb of data and then i cross checked my data usage on register.mtnl.net.in and i got surprised and found that my usage for the day is 60mb. Where the bal 40mb gone.

My netmeter is showing 20 and it surpassed that 20mb limit.

MTNL are cheaters and thers no doubt about it atall.

One more thing i wuld like to know is that whats the use of MTNL username and password?

What if i try to use someones else username and password ??/
    Will my account remain unafected???
If yes then surely i wud like to get someones username and password for that reason. Please help

  22. @Shawn
You might have changed the password of accessing the router page also .Remember only password which is in wan settings changes not the router page password which is always the same i.e. admin and cant be changed.

    @Sunny
i am using same UT router!! Working fine for me mate.If ur connecting via ethernet I would recommend u to change ur preffred DNS server to 4.2.2.1 it would solve the problem.

For usage problem check ur history and one more thing do is to change ur default password because any one with ur id(ur phone no)and ur password(default is ca no) could use it on his pc (with mtnl connection).
To catch this check in ur usage history where there is BRAS no. If it is accessed from other pc it is different make it noted to mtnl helpline at 1500

  23. Hi GURUS,

    Mr Adil Baig,

You need to configure your DSL Modem for NAT so that incoming UDP / TCP ports are allowed to your computer. For further details on how to configure NAT read the modems manual. Beware as configuring NAT for all ports will expose your PC to the Internet. Use a good firewall to protect from security attacks

  25. Hi i have bought an Dlink ADSL router and i habve got BSNL broadband connection kildkly tell me how to configure it os that i can access internet

  26. Sir,

I have purchased D-link DSL-502T ADSL Router, which have one ethernet and one USB Port. I have Two Computers (P-IV). Can I run broadband on both the computers with this router first with USB port and other with Ethernet port or I have to purchase ethernet switch. Can both the computer be joined without any other switch. Please solve my problems. And also tell me about internet sharing.

  27. MTNL has installed adsl router for broadband internet connection
they did not configure it. now i want to configure it please tell me steps to configure it

  28. O Kind and Wonderful Deep,

My pop has got himself an MTNL broadband (DSL) connection here in Delhi. MTNL installed a Dlink DSL-502T “modem” and I purchased a Dlink DI-524 wireless router to go with it. Unfortunately, the combination isnt working well. Quite often (in fact, usually), the router is not accessible (ping times out) and therefore, no internet for my laptop.

    - The DSL router is on PPPoe with dynamic IP.
    - I have no idea if it has a password entered – all i see are asterisks
    - The DHCP server on the DSL router is enabled
    - The wireless router is set on Dynamic IP (not PPPoe)

The trouble is that usually the DHCP client on the wireless router is not connected to the DHCP server on the DSL router. even clicking on connect etc. does not work. After a while (often 1/2 and hour or more), it manages to connect and works fine for a while.

    My questions are:

    - Does the WAN setting on the DSL router being PPPoe have any relevance for the WAN setting on the wireless router? i.e. should the wireless router also be on some sort of PPPoe setting? (I tried this but it would not connect to the router — note that i do not know what to enter in the password field on the wireless router, if anything).

    - Would disabling the DHCP server on the DSL router, and setting a static IP on the wireless router help? I tried this, and it seemed to work for a while.

    - Essentially, my question is whether there is a SOP for this. I assume this is a problem commonly faced by MTNL broadband users. Unless the DSL router is bad. (how do i check this? by eliminating the wireless router and plugging the DSL router straight into the computer?)

    - firmware etc?

any advice would be much appreciated

    Gautam

  29. I have tried port forwarding on my DSL-502T router.
configured virtual server for my web server.
However I am not able to access the web server through the internet.
2 application servers are configured. One at port 80 and another at 8000. Both are non-accessible.
but when I access the port 8111 (configured for admin access) the admin panel is available through the internet,.
    Please advice.

  31. Hi,

I am using DSL-502T router provided by our ISP MTNL for their BroadBand internet. Previously, It was working fine. But since last few days, it is creating problem. It sometimes doesnot connect to the internet. Normarlly rebooting from the admin website remediate the connection, but now since last few days, even the rebooting from the site is also not working. It does not reboot when the Reboot Button in the site is pressed. So , only option remaining was to hard boot(Plug off the power supply , wait for 10 seconds and plug it in again).

Even the connection speed has dropped.

    The firmware verison is V2.00B01T01.ML.20050530

There is another point I want to highlight. Recently I purchased the Dlink DI-524 Wireless Router and connect it to my existing Dlink Router. Now the problems are

    1. The speed has dropped even further.
    2. Sometimes the pinging to the various servers stop. Sometimes, I can ping to the DI-524, but it cannot ping to the DSL-502T. Thus no internet. Sometimes, DSL-502T is not able to connect to the net. so again no connectivity. Is the combo really suitable?
    3. Is there any firware upgradation needed on both the routers?

The firmware version of the DI-524 is

    Current Firmware Version: 4.00
Firmware Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005

    Please advice

  32. hi i,ve recently bought dlink 502t adsl router for my airtel broadband connection with static ip address at two differnt locations. i want to connect thses two locations. pls help me how to configure my adsl router.? the ip is 125.22.241.6 at one location and 125.22.241.7 at another location. the os is 2000 server at one end and win98 at another end. i can able to ping thses ips on both end. give me config details step by step.

  33. Hi Gautham and Vineet Bansal, Looks like you are creating 2 subnets in your home network. Since your main router (connected to the modem) has access to only 1 subnet, you need to add a route on it, for the second network. You should make it point to your DI-524′s ethernet IP address. Have you done this???

I would suggest, if you want to go for a wireless home network, look at a product something like a dlink DSL-G604T, which is a wireless router modem. You will have wireless connectivity at home, plus you need not use the service provider’s modem. You will save on the number of unnecessary gadgets in your network.

  34. hi i purchased an ip address from mtnl and have dsl 502t router connected with smc wireless router at my office and home now i want to set up the ip address at office so that i can access it from home can anyone please tell me how it can be done step by step as i am fed up doing r&d from past five days

  38. Hi Folks,

I’m stumped with the DSL-502T modem. I have two laptops. One has xp which also has wireless and works fine. The DSL installed without a hitch and till today works like a dream. My second laptop, a PII machine, is runniing win 98. Now the CD that came with it does not have the INF file which is needed for installation. So I went to the website of Dlink india. downloaded the driver specifically for win 98 which included the Dlink_DSLs.inf file. However, win 98 does not recognize it and give an error that it does not contain information of the hardware. I thereafter checked the manual again. The inf file for win 98 is supposed to be DLink_502t.inf . Can you help me get this file and do you think that should fix the problem?

    Many thanks!

    cheers!

    Jim
