Yahoo Messenger 7 Beta India version

I have been using Yahoo Messenger 7 Beta Indian version for last 3-4 days, its pretty cool…specially Hindi Audibles…..and I also liked their new feature “Drag-and-drop file transfer “, which makes sending file much more easier…

Following is the list of features…

  • Drag-and-drop file transfer
  • Audibles that talk your language
  • Interesting avatars
  • Contact cards for one-click communication and access to Address Book
  • Easier access to Yahoo! Search
  • Indicators for new Yahoo! Mail
  • Coming soon new tabs for Cricket, Indian stocks and more

The known issues include

  • On Windows ME, there are intermittent crashes when you sign out and sign back in. To avoid crashes, completely exit Yahoo! Messenger and sign back in.
  • File transfer between the Yahoo! Messenger Beta and earlier versions of Yahoo! Messenger are not supported.

and it crashes on my XP too :( but worth giving it a shot…

UPDATE: If you are not able to see Hindi Audibles even after installing Indian version, then check your yahoo profile and make sure that Location is set to India, if not then change it to India, save it and relogin to messenger… It should show the Hindi Audibles now :)

  1. I have the US version.I crashed thrice in 7 times in 4 days(among them i am sure that i was booted thrice).Also problem occurs when u try to copy a link posted in the conf.You need to select the link along with a blank space to the left of it and press Ctrl+c.
    But is is still usable enough for me to continue with it.

    the hindi audibles come with it automatically

    You will find new category in audibles called Masti and there few others in hello, insults etc…

    It should new category Masti automatically, you will find some in Hello and Instults also, i think there is one in goodbye also…

  7. I hope you downloaded Indian version from the link i provided to you…
    It should generally load it, I too had faced same problem before but automatically it appeared after sometime…

    But there were still some hindi audibles in other categories like, Hellos, Instults, Goodbyes etc..

  9. is it possible to download the hindi audibles without downloading the Beta version ?? any way of copying the files onto my machine and then activating them or sumthin ?? I’m already using the version which supports audibles, but wud like to see the new Hindi ones too :-)

    One way is, whenever someone sends you hindi audibles then right click and select find similar ones so it should find the other hindi ones in your yahoo messenger 6 but I guess it will be only for that chat conversation…you need yahoo messenger 7 indian version to get hindi audibles for permanent use….

    What I meant was, you cannot get hindi audibles in versions other than 7 so to get in 6, you can click on the audible and select find similar ones….

    But that will be only for that chat session after thar it will get automatically deleted…

    I hope this clears your doubt :)

  24. Love the hindi audibles on the Indian version. Finally a chat language you can connect to! Awesome! One slight hitch. The US version allows you to place calls and record voice mails versus the Indian version which doesnt. Although Indian version gives you these hella cool audibles, I am not deprived of the call/voice message feature. How do i get both? Should any tricks or alterations in messenger folder help?

    As far as i know, new features like call, cricket scores are going to be added in next build of yahoo messenger 7 india version.

  34. 8-X Indian version of yahoo messeger is really cool… but there is a small problem with the version it doesnot have call option tht US one had… so we require call option too to use it as we often require voice chat than hindi audibles… i hope concerned authorities will think of wht i am askng…8-X

    You do not need yahoo.co.in id, but just need to set your contry in profile as India.

    This is what I had done to get it working..

    Kept Messenger On (I dont think it matters if its off also) - changed locatin to India - saved profile - restarted the messenger… i.e. exit and start again and login..

    It worked for me when I had tried…it should work for u too..

  72. Just a tip for people seeking both, free phone and hindi audibles
    feature.

    You can have Hindi Audibles (aka Desi Audibles) and PC-to-PC free phone by performing the following hack.

    - Install Yahoo messenger India version (BETA)

    - Run it, Send a few hindi audibles …….

    - Exit Yahoo messenge. Ensure that it’s not sitting idle on the
    taskbar.

    - Zip the $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache\Audibles
    folder and save Audibles.zip in c:\temp\yahoo-hack
    (for example).

    - Copy audiblemenu.xml and audiblerevoked.xml from
    $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache folder to
    c:\temp\yahoo-hack (for example).

    - Uninstall Yahoo messenger

    - Delete $yahoo_messenger_install_folder

    - Install Yahoo messenger US version (BETA)

    - Ensure that Yahoo Messenger is not running.

    - Rename $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache\Audibles to
    Audibles-ORIG

    - Rename
    $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache\audiblemenu.xml to
    audiblemenu.xml-ORIG

    - Rename
    $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache\audiblerevoked.xml
    to audiblerevoked.xml-ORIG

    - Unzip c:\temp\yahoo-hack\Audibles.zip in
    $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache folder

    - Copy c:\temp\yahoo-hack\audiblemenu.xml and
    c:\temp\yahoo-hack\audiblerevoked.xml to
    $yahoo_messenger_install_folder\cache folder.

    - Start your new US-INDIA (hacked) Yahoo messenger.

    You should now see the Desi Audibles and the Call button
    on top left that allows you to make PC-to-PC phone calls.

    Hope this works out well for all my pyaare Bharat Vaasis.

    I am really sorry for goof up…I by mistake added “calls are enabled” in Indian version, but due to restriction by Indian government, they wont add call option to Indian version anymore..

    So you need to get US version and use the call facility…

    Hindi Audibles are also available in US version too…I think they added in Final version of messenger 7, they are under the tab International in Audibles…
