I have been using MTNL triband for more than a month now and yes I can include myself in one of their happy customers :)

The speeds are very good, there is no downtime at all..till now I have not seen my net connection going down…(apart from daily disconnection at 11.54 in the night..I think it’s for NU plan…)

They have plans ranging from Rs. 199 (400 MB - 256 kbps) to Rs. 9,999 (18 GB - 2mbps) a month

The plans are very good value to money and you get what you pay for..not like local cable operators who charge more and give less…

Let me move on to everything step by step:

Requirements: You need a MTNL telephone line, machine with at least Windows 98 installed (of course you can use it on Linux or other OS too but they won’t be able to help you with that), Ethernet Card

  1. Registration Process: The registration process is very easy, you have to visit their telephone exchange, fill small form and submit it. The registration fees are Rs. 300 and Rs. 500 initial deposit for modem (if you are going to use their modem). If you have your own modem then you do not need to pay Rs. 500 extra. These charges will be added in your telephone bill. You can also register by calling them on their helpline number 1500 (Mumbai) but there is kind of risk in that, they might put wrong plan under your telephone number. It had happened to me, instead of NU plan, they had put me in pay as per use plan. (I will talk about it more later in this post)
  2. Time Required: They require around 1 week of time to get the things rolling but if it takes more than a week then it means that the time has come to visit telephone exchange and enquire about it. Reasons for delay can be problems with local server computer, issues with work orders etc…But visiting them personally will solve the issues quickly.
  3. Installation: Their person will call you before visiting your place, there is nothing much to install actually. You just need to change your IP settings and configure the modem with your username and password. The guy will configure the stuff for you and the things should start running in 10 minutes max.
  4. Things to be taken care of: First change your modem admin panel’s password. The admin panel is located here: http://192.168.1.1/ (that’s the default location)…the default username and password will be admin and admin. Now since it is very easy to guess so it is better to change it….to change the password, logon to the admin panel, click on tools tab and type in the new password.
  5. Troubleshooting: There is generally no problem with the net connection and you do not need to contact triband support…but if you are contacting them for some technical problem then do not expect them to solve your problem…you won’t find technically sound people, (of course they will be able to fix very basic problems) they will just have answers ready on their screen so if they see something which is not in their answer sheet then…they will give you complaint number and then be ready to follow it…you might need to visit the telephone exchange if they don’t reply in couple of days :D or the best way would be, use google for technical errors you get, its very easy to trace out the problems :)
  6. Customer Support: The people at MTNL (telephone exchange as well as on phone) are very polite and helpful but the only thing they lack is resources, they are ready to help you with their best but they don’t have enough resources, answers ready to help…The other part is, they do not have enough customer support executives (which again comes under resources but worth mentioning it again)…now you will get idea about it when you call them…when you dial 1500 or 1504, you will have option to dial 1 for Marathi, 2 for Hindi and 3 for English…whatever number you press the answer will be in Hindi or Marathi…so this shows that they really need some English speaking and technically sound people…

Here is my short story about their customer support:

I applied for Triband NU plan over the phone, I got confirmation with the registration number…I waited for a week or so, still no one has visited my place for installation, I called them up on their helpline, I was asked to confirm it with the telephone exchange people…I visited telephone exchange…enquire about the net connection….lady at the helpdesk wrote something on the paper and asked me to meet someone inside the office…I managed to find that person after asking few people…I gave her details about my registration…she told me, due to some server issues the person couldn’t come to my place but he will be there after 2 days…and dot after 2 days person came to my place and setup the net :)

So that part was over, I was very happy with the connection and was waiting to test out download speeds in the night…started the download…was getting around 25-27kbps on torrent downloads…I checked my online usage on their site…and was bit shocked to see the different name in the plan…I had applied for NU plan and it showed me TRIB_AA which is pay as per use plan…I called their helpline at 1.30 AM, I was not expecting anyone to pickup the phone but a lady picked up the phone, I told her about it, she also confirmed that its TRIB_AA, they have not given me NU plan…she asked me to call 1500 and get it changed…I called the other number…it was ringing…so I called in the morning and was asked to visit telephone exchange…I visited telephone exchange, the lady at the helpdesk asked me to meet some person inside (the same person I had met last time), I met her and gave the details…she looked in her files and told me that 1500 people told us to give TRIB_AA plan so we gave you the same…so…what next? She asked me to visit helpdesk and fill the form to change the plan, I did that…I got some receipt…and was told that it will be done within a day….I waited for 2 days…nothing happened…I visited their office again…I was told that someone did not close my earlier support ticket so it will be done once this ticket is closed by 1500 people…I asked her to do something and get it done…she called some person…and closed the support ticket and gave me new work order number….and told me that it will be done in a 2-3 days as the computer of the person who manages this was not working…..

I waited for 2 days, nothing happened, I called directly to the person whom I had met earlier (in the office)…I gave her my work order number and asked to check the status…she told me, she has not received work order from helpdesk and she will try to get it today and it will be done in 2 days…

Today, her last day of her “2 days”….

So I hope the plan gets changed by tonight…

Update - 12th Nov.: They deleted my account by mistake and it will be activated on monday….

Update 2 - 12th Nov.: My net is back….and now it shows me NU Plan :)

So this whole incident proves that, they lack proper customer support system, customers have to meet people who are in the testing room and get the things done, there is more of paper work than computerized things…so this leads to slow implementation of things…so being helpful and polite does not help, the people should be active and quick at the same time…..

So, to end the review….Pros include:

  • Very flexible plans for everyone
  • Less installation and registration charges
  • Very good speeds
  • Reasonable rates compared to other ISPs like TATA, Sify etc..
  • No downtime or very less downtime
  • Customer Support - very helpful people and very polite

Cons include:

  • Takes time to fix the problem
  • Lacks proper support system to solve user problems
  • Customers still have to visit the telephone exchange to fix certain problems…it should be made online and with ease

I think above points should be enough to point out pros and cons of the MTNL Triband..

I hope you guys like it :)

Update: Don’t forget to read my bad experience with MTNL Guys

  1. Hi,

    Do you know if I’ll be able to setup a home network using a PC and a Mac OS X on MTNL? Do they provide a router or I’ll have to buy one?

    I’m moving to India in a week and I need a really good ISP. Man, MTNL prices suck! They’re too exorbitant, plus they don’t provide you a ‘real broadband experience’. Like here I pay only $25/month for an unlimited download, no-time limits 3 MBPS connection. And just look at what MTNL offers!! Do you have any other alternate suggestion besides MTNL in Delhi?

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Gaurav

  3. I got the following from D-LINK support and it worked fien for me. Check this.

    You can configure this GLB-502T for MTNL broadband by doing following :-

    Step 1 : Log into the web configuration of the router by typing the IP address http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. A prompt for user name and password should appear. Type ‘admin’ as username and password both and click on login.

    Step 2 : Click on setup and then New Connection tab. Configure the modem as per the values given below:

    1. Give any name is the ‘Name’ option.

    2. Select Type as PPPoE.

    3. username = MTNL telephone number
    password = CA number mentioned in the telephone bill.

    4. VPI = 0
    VCI = 32

    Rest all would be default settings. Click on Apply and OK.

    Step 3 : To save settings properly on the router, click on ‘Tools’ and ‘System Commands’ and then click on ‘Save All’. Once settings are saved we need to reboot router so click on ‘Restart’ tab just below to ‘Save All’ tab and let the router reboot.

    Step 4 : Now check for the connection status in Status > Connection Status. It should show connected with a valid WAN IP address something like 59.x.x.x.

    If the PPPoE light on router is on, it means router is connected to internet.

    Close the web configuration and try opening any website in your computer.

    I have D-Link (DFE-538TX)10/100 Mbps PCI Wake on LAN Fast Ethernet Adaptor, which is the latest.
    Please let me know whether I can use this Ethernet when I change over to MTNL Broad Band from my Existing Syfy Broadband. or I will have to change over to D-Link 502-T as printed in your form.

    I applied for MTNL Broadband TriB200P thru MTNL web and thru prescribed registration form on 17th and got the workorder against my application which is 8693.However I am informed that due non availability of D-link Reuter
    (502-T) with MTNL, providing Broad band Connection will be delayed. I am also advised to purchase my own D-Link Reuter.
    On enquiry with SunriseTechnology Shop No:157 “B”wing GrdFloor VashiPlaza, Vashi, the cost of the unit comes to Rs1850/=
    Refering comment Dated Nov 28th 2005-12:00pm, I prefer going thru MTNL unit by paying Rs80/-per month.
    I would like to understand , if we go out of India for long time,how do we get De-activated from MTNL Broadband connection?,please inform me.K.G.Kumar

  13. I recently bought the Router for MTNL triband (GLB-502T). I studied how to configure the router in the manual and tried to configure it. But I need the CA number. Since I have recently bought the MTNL connection I don’t have a bill and have no idea where to find this CA number. Called 1500 but they to don’t know and asked me to wait for the first bill. I opted for triband because I got great review from my friends. Now this router is sitting on my computer table and I still cant use the triband. Having to access internet through 17*** is so annoying.

    Can anyone help me find this CA number? Is it available anywhere on the net.

    Secondly 400 mbs that they give of free download does it include normal browsing to. Or only the stuff that we actually download?

  15. Hi Deepak
    I guess if you have the receipt for the application you will find the CA number mentioned in the same. its a 10 digit number .

    The computer generated receipt has the CA number and the work order number which can be used.

  19. hey Deepak , am also going for MTNL with GLB-502T . Just wanted to clarify few things.
    1. does the admin page for router works only if the ADSL connection is on?
    2. With no line-in connection can we still see the administration page.

    I’ve tried but there seems to be some issue, the page or the router is not able to show me the page, but the DHCP server on the router is working fine since it allocated me 198.168.1.2 ip by default when I said dynamically obtain an IP address.

    Some one pls comment…. as am yet to get confirmation from MTNL about the broadband connection setup.

    thanks in advance

  21. Hi Shishir,
    I have also bought GLB-502T and i was able to get the Router Admin page and login to it when my ADSL was not activated.

    When MTNL created my account, the ADSL LED started glowing (it takes few seconds to start glowing).

    And after i configured the router (through the admin page), the PPPoE LED started glowing and net connection was successful.

    How r u connecting the Router, via USB or LAN card?

  25. AFTER READING THE WHOLE FORUM ABOUT TRIBAND AND ITS PROBLEMS I CAN MAKE OUT THAT EVERY ONE IS NOT HAPPY WITH IT. OK NOW LISTEN TO MY PROBLEM AND KINDLY FIND OUT A SOLUTION FOR IT……

    I HAVE A DSL-NU PLAN (590) FOR THE PAST 1 MONTH.
    INITIALLY I WAS GETTING GOOD RESPONSE, BUT SINCE PAST TWO WEEKS I FREQUENTLY GET DISCONNECTED AS I NOTICE THE ADSL LIGHT STARTS TO BLINK AND TRIES TO RE-ESTABLISH THE CONNECTION & WEBSITES DONT RESPOND. (THE PPoE LIGHT ALSO GOES OFF)
    I HAVE A D-LINK GLB-502T ROUTER. THIS DISCONNECTION SCENE HAPPENS EVERY 8 TO 10 MINUTES AFTER CONNECTING.
    THE FOLLOWING ARE THE WAYS/METHODS I TRIED TO SOLVE BUT STILL GETS DISCONNECTED :-

    1. CALLING 1504 & COMPLAINING
    2. GOING TO TELEPHONE EXCHANGE AND COMPLAINING
    3. CALLING THE LOCAL TELEPHONE REPAIRMEN AND GETTING ALL DISTURBANCES CLEARED, CHECKED THE LINES,ETC…
    4. BOUGHT A NEW ROGET BOX (SPLITTER) AND TRIED MANY DIFFERENT WIRES TO CONNECT THE ROUTER
    5. CHANGED THE DNS SERVERS,ETC….
    6. FINALLY GOT FED UP OF DISCONNECTION AND SEARCHED GOOGLE FOR SIMILIAR PROBLEMS AND LANDED UP IN THIS FORUM.

    THE MTNL PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE OF ANY POSSIBLE THING THAT COULD BE CONFLICTING WITH MY CONNECTION AS IT WAS WORKING FINE INTIALLY.
    I HAVE GIVEN UP HOPE TO DOWNLOAD A 20 MB FILE AT ONE SHOT

    MY REQUEST TO ALL OF YOU TO TRY AND FIND SOLUTION MY PROBLEM.

  36. I have taken BSNL Broadband Start 250 Plan. For that I have purchased my own Modem i.e. D-link ADSL GLB-502T.I have completed all procidure to install the same via usb port. But unfortunately it doesn’t work as it shows different types of errors. I have called BSNL Guy for help. He told me that this modem can not work properly as it has lack of some technical requirement. Instead of that you take only 502-T modem not GLB-502T modem or make setting again & shut the modem for 5 minutes & restart it. It will work. I did same thing but nothing has happened. I do not know what to do? Kindly help me out.

    download limits they impose on people.

    Its almost as if dowloading was a corporal offence.

  48. Hi Deep,
    Nice work.
    I have opted for Triband 199 plan. and have just got the connection yesterday. I purchased my Own ADSL Router GLB 502T ADSL2+.
    The MTNL Person has not yet done any configuration on it.
    I had to configure the modem on my own. by referring to the post above by “Sujoy” Dated Aug 16 7:31 PM. i could get through the internet connection. but after few minutes, the PPPoE Light goes off and the ADSL Light Keeps Blinking.
    now i have to restart the modem by unplugging the Power from it, remove my telephone connection from it and remove the LAn Cable and reconnect all these back into the modem. even after this the modem may not restart. and suddenly after some time the PPPoE Light would reappear (this happened just twice otherwise every time i had to restart the modem.)

    this is DLINK GLB 502T
    my problem seems to be similar to that of

    Shivesh’s post:

    Also can u also tell me how can i connect to my home pc (This Connection) through my Office Internet ?

  50. Hi Kiran,
    After doing the configuration as provided by DLINK, my net connection was working fine. The next day MTNL person came and did some configuration when i was not at home. He has put a static IP address in my LAN connection although i did not apply for it. But the net connection is working fine.

    In my case net gets disconnected if a fone in parallel line is picked up which is normal.

  52. Thanks Sujay.
    I fixed the problem i guess. it was with the adsl Modem i had purchased. the connecton was not remaining stable. it was intermittent. now i have replaced my Router/Modem and the things are fine (till now).

    I just wanted to know how do i make my computer available to the Internet (Secured Connection) without having a static IP.
    For this i have configured my system with a s/w from no-ip.com which registers my system on the Internet with the Dynamic IP provided for DNS Resolving. currently it is able to resolve the ip address with the address kiranjjain.servehttp.com. but my sites hosted on the IIS Server on the same system are not available on the internet. i have tried disabling the firewall also on the DSL Modem.
    when i try to surf kiranjjain.servehttp.com it should open the default website on iis server. but instead it opens the admin login page of the DSL modem. (when i do it from my system) and from internet it gives Page not Found error.

    Can anyone sugges how to configure for port forwarding on GLB 502T DLINK Modem/Router.

  76. I have a query. My Triband has been a problem since the time I have bought it.

    I am using a GLB502T router.

    The PPPoE light doesnot stay ON for more than 5-10 minutes.

    The problem has been on since the last 30-35 days. And I have changed my wiring, checked for parallels, cleaned the connectors at the box for eliminating grounding problems. Yet the connection is not ON for more than 10 minutes on an average.

    I was given an MTNL router which is working continuously since the last 2 days.

    I checked my router at another place - halfway down mumbai. It was working perfectly fine for full 1 day.. continuously.

    What could be the problem? Any guesses?

  78. Hi Aryan,
    I am Facing a similar problem.
    I think the Problem is with the Router GLB502T Getting Heated up quickly.
    Try doing this : Keep the router in an open Place upside Down (as the Base of the rtouter needs to be kept heat free) so as to dissipate the heat quickly.
    I am facing a similar problem with the above solution, the router keeps working for days together otherwise, it hangs up within 10-15 minutes.

  84. Hi deep and others.

    I was thinking about taking the dsl nu plan. 1GB download per month and free night downloads right.

    About that night free download, i will have to switch off my ADSL modem and then switch it on again after 12 night isn’t.So whatever i then download in the night will not get subtracted from my 1GB monthly data download limit isn’t.

    Also what if i forget to switch my adsl modem on/off before 8 am. i mean what happens.

    And is there a way to change monthly plans online on do I have to give an application at my nearest MTNL service centre.

  85. Deep says
    20-Dec-2006 at 2:20 am
  86. I think if you dont switch off the modem then it will count the downloads in paid ones..

    For change of plan, you will have to visit local mtnl office. Online it is hopeless.

  90. Hi Everyone,
    My GLB-502T router has started giving problems after working fine for 4 months.
    Although the ADSL led glows properly, the PPPoE led has stopped glowing.
    Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and how to resolve it.

    Regards,
    Sujay

  92. I think when you switch your adsl modem off and then on your adsl modem PPPoe LED glows again isn’t it…

    If so you have to increase the time for which your ADSL modem stays alive at one given time.

    Procedure:
    1. Go to http://192.168.1.1 (for D-link adsl modem. for other modems look in your adsl user manual for the modem configuration site etc.)

    2. username: admin
    password: admin

    3. Go to Setup. (top menu)

    4. then select ” mtnl ” option (side menu)

    5. Look at “Keep alive” option. enter any number in secs or minutes for which you want your adsl modem to be alive (mine is set at 60 min)

    6. click Apply.

    Hope this works… If not you have a hardware problem and you should contact your ADSL modem service centre.

  94. OK then… so deep i heard mtnl has upgraded the triband speed from 1st jan 2007 to upto 2mbps. thats the good news but the bad news is there is no speed upgrade for DSL nu plan. i just saw the latest tariff at mtnl site.

    Do you have any information if they are going to upgrade dsl nu plan speed in next 1 or 2 months. i was going to go back to 199P plan at the end of this month unless they are going to give 2 mbps for dsl nu users.

    personally i think it will be a big money spinner for mtnl if they provide 2 mbps to dsl nu users. afterall its just usefull from 12 to 8 am to mostly home internet users. 2 mbps with unlimited night downloads would be so great.

  95. Deep says
    01-Jan-2007 at 9:23 pm
  96. I have no ide about internal working of MTNL. On 2mbps move, Actually they are smart i must say. They will make pages load faster or say downloads happen quickly on limited bandwidth plans so people will use those plans more. And they get more returns. Where in Unlimited - they will get only fixed amount every month so they wont plan to introduce 2mbps there.

  97. Piya says
    02-Jan-2007 at 9:49 am
  98. Sigh!… I always felt they had some seriously evil people working there at mtnl. well lets hope as science progresses they do give 2 mbps to dsl nu users anytime in near future. till then i am going back to 200P plan from next month.

  100. Apparently MTNL has upgraded their “limited” ADSL to 2Mbps and it works great !

    Now I am facing a problem:
    1. If I use PPPoE mode, then most P2P ports are blocked and the speed on emule,shareaza,torrents etc is pathetic
    2. If I use bridge mode, then the speed is amazing. BUT if the connection gets broken then the dld session is wasted and I will have to disconnect/login again…

    As I see it, the only soln is to use PPPoE mode and enable port forwarding on some ports….Any other options ?

  122. GLB 502T router can be configured as instructed in their manual. MOST IMPORTANT TELEPNONE LINE SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY DISTURBANCE. Router’s FIRMWARE NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED & IT HAS OVERHEATING Problem, due, which it gets, disconnected… blow air through the cooling ports and it will again reconnect. As in deeps blog, (mentioned above) keep the router upside down or inclined to keep its heated airflow upward for sufficient cooling. D-Link should come out with the solution. Is their R&D being done at customer cost?

  126. Guys, BSNL broadband have reduced their rates substantially. They offer 1GB for Rs.250 and an incredible 2.5GB for only Rs.500 (effective Jan 07). Check out their rates at: http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm

    In contrast MTNL Triband looks expensive at Rs.399 for 700MB and Rs.749 for only 1.25GB. Their rates are at: http://mumbai.mtnl.net.in/triband/htm/tariff.htm#tariff

    Consdidering that MTNL caters to the big metros of India one would think that they would offer better rates than BSNL that caters to only smaller towns.

    How can we bring this to the attention of MTNL and have them change their rates in light of the above? (I cannot wait to get my hands on the Rs.500-for-2.5GB plan :)

    Any thoughts?

Basically MTNL people here are kind of careless, they just want to stick to the stuff they have. (Yea, I know 2 mbps was a good move but introducing some “Good” plan would have been a better move)

    ~~~Solution to MTNL Night Unlimited Reset Problem:~~~
    ____________________________________________________
    Firstly go up the page and read my method to configure your router in bridge mode. This is essential.
    Go and download this software which I found does the job very well.
    from here:
    http://tucows.mundofree.com/win2k/preview/38161.html or here :
    Note: After you install the program do not run it. Right click on the shortcut of Netlaunch and enable compatibility mode. Set it to Windows 98. I had to do this in Windows XP.
    Now you can run the program.
    In preferences->connections select your Triband connection. Make Schedule to Disconnect at 11:59pm. Add that. Make Schedule to Connect at 12.01am. Add that. Make Schedule to Disconnect at 8am.
    You can also set it to reconnect after disconnection.
    Thats it !…the benefit of bridge mode is that you dont need to turn on/off the router at 12am ! you can just connect and disconnect !
    Cheers and enjoy all !
  142. Hi Lina,
    Actually changing the password of 192.168.1.1 will not help much, though u should chage it from default admin/admin to admin/
    The method of changing this password depends on the make of the ADSL Modem/Router u use. for changing in Dlink GLB502T, just go to User Management under Setup or Tools menu of http://192.168.1.1 and change the password there.
    this will just change the password of ur Modem / Router.
    What actually u need to change is the password of the account u use. to change the password, go to http://register.mtnl.net.in and login
    on the subsequent page select “Change Service Password” on the left hand side menu (6th Option)
    the old password is the CA No. appearing on ur Telephone bill.
    After changing this password, u will have to reconfigure ur ADSL Router to incorporate this password into the Router. to do this,
    Step 1 : Log into the web configuration of the router by typing the IP address http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. A prompt for user name and password should appear. Type ‘admin’ as username and password which u would have changed in step 1 above under Usermanagement of Router
    Step 2 : Click on setup and then the existing connection for PPPoE. Configure the modem as per the values given below:
    Change the password here, the password is the new password which u have selected under register.mtnl.net.in site.
    Click apply
    after this go to Tools and go to service commands
    and click save all
    This will save the New password into the Router.
    DONE!!!
    if any difficulties, pls write back
    Kiran Jain
  160. Hi,
    I am using the D-Link GLB-502T and setup was hell until I came across your site and got the bridge setup done.
    Now I have a new problem. I have just got a macbook and and an airport expess for wireless connection. I am now back to square one with setting it up as the connection is a bridge connection and not a PPPoE connection.
    I need to set up a base station as they call it in Apple talk and then set up the PPPoE connection. Since the GLB-502T is set up in Bridge mode, obviously that did not work. When setting up the PPPoE connection settings it gave a message saying that the base station needs to be set up in Bridge mode, which I did. Even after that I am still not able to connect to the net.
    I have now connected directly via ADSL - not wireless and am able to connect to the net that way.
    Has anyone tried to connect the GLB-502T with a wireless set up? I think the problem and solution should be similar regardless of the make of the wireless device.
    Would really appreciate a reply and possible solution - I’ve spent the entire weekend banging my head on this!
    I have set up Wireless Many Times with GLB 502T. It really Doesnt Matter in which mode u are connecting to internet. it may be bridge or PPPoE. Just one tweak, Connect the Cable from ur ADSL Router to the LAN Port of your Wireless instead of the WAN Port. this will bring both the devices on the same network. Just ensure that ur wireless is allowing only ur computer (may be password Protected, WEP Key Enabled or MAC Address Based.)
    u may call me if u want.
  182. Hi,
    I am having MTNL Triband Internet connection. I have tried to configure wireless connection to my existing MTNL connection.
    I have a D-Link ADSL 502T wired router and a linksys wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC. In the wireless router all the ports are for rj-45. I don’t know where to connect my phone line port, which is of rj-11 type.
    I connected Internet port of linksys wireless router with my existing wired d-link router but no luck.
    My question is do I need d-link wired router (502T) in the whole wireless setup?
    My Configuration:
    Linksys Wireless router IP 192.168.1.5
    D-Link ADSL router IP 192.168.1.1
    laptop1 —— linksys —– D-Link ADSL — phone line.
    When my laptop is connected with wireless router, I can’t ping my ADSL(192.168.1.1), it says request timeout.
    Can anyone please help me in this regard.
    Warm Regards,
    Naseem Khan
  184. Hi Naseem,
    Yes u will need both ADSL as well as ur Linksys Router
    to Configure the same, follow these steps :
    1. Configure ur ADSL so that internet is available to ur comp with wired network.
    2. Configure ur Comp to Communicate to The Wireless Router (Linksys)
    Now Connect the Network Cable Coming from ur Adsl into one of the RJ45 ports of Linksys
    Ur DNS and Gateway of ur wireless network card on ur comp should be that of ADSL i.e. 192.168.1.1
    After this ur Computer should be able to Ping to 192.168.1.1
    if it pings ur system is ready for wireless Internet
    if required call me on +919820444236
    Regards,
    Kiran Jain
  186. hey guys looks like most of you guys are hapy with MTNL.
    But not me.
    I have a 2 mbps connection and get a download speed of 45 kbps max.I read that someone said tat download speed depends on connection speed by 8.
    that is for me 2048/8=256. and i get 45 kbpsfrom every website/server. i even tried http://WWW.speedtest.net and it gave me 60kbps and a ping of 1300ms.
    And more over my adsl gets disconnected every 10 minutes and i cannot even play any online games properly because of low speed and frequent disconnections.I tried to contack MTNL Costumer care but no use they say they will send someone and that person would never reach my home.I waited for 2 months and called them every 3 days.and finally after 2 months one man came and changed the line from Distribution Port and that increased the disconnection time from 10 minutes to 20 minutes.
    Thats My story
  188. Ayush,
    which is the ADSL Modem u are using ? is it GLB 502 T From DLink ? if so, check if it gets heated up. the frequent disconnection problem may be because of this ir may be the problem is with ur telephone line. as u said the download speed is slow, try surfing the net during night hours.i get 2Mbps speed. ur disconnection and speed problem seems to be of Telephone line disturbance or Parallel line connection. for this use a splitter.
    I face the problem of disconnection when i get a call on mtnl line and is received. if it is not received, it does not disconnects. after this is reconnects and when the phone is hung up then too Internet disconnects.
    Regards,
    Kiran Jain
  190. I also have problem of internet disconnection when we use the phone. Once you switch off the modem and switch on it gets connected in two minutes.
    Also, I plan to be abroad for six months. What is the most economical way to keep the phone and DSL connection in safe custody. Also I don’t want to wait for a long period for the service to satrt when I come back.Urgent please.
    I have Rs.399 per month connection + Rs.80 for the modem.
    Thanks in advance.
  194. Disconnection problems/while picking up phone :
    The cause of this is high capacitance on parallel telephone lines due to long length. You can solve this by putting filters on every parallel telephone connection. There is 1 input and 2 outputs on a splitter. You will only need to use the Line input and Tel output i.e. DSL output will be unused. Filters are available for about Rs 100.
    Slow speeds:
    I have found one cause of slow speed to be the USB connection. Second cause of slow speed is distance from the exchange. Third cause of slow speed is old and rusted wiring to your ADSL modem.
    Sharing ADSL connection/VOIP ATA:
    For this the ideal mode for the router is PPPOE.I have configured my GLB-502T to connect to my Linksys PAP2 through the LAN port while it connects to my PC through USB, so I can use the ATA even when the PC is off. If you dont want to use USB conn then get a 8-port switch and plug the wires (no configuration needed). Make sure that both LAN and USB are on LAN Group 1 in the config. In the same way you can connect it to a Wi-Fi router.
  198. naseem,
    phone line goes to the d-link modem.
    Connect a LAN cable from modem to one of the LAN ports of Linksys ,and connect your PC on one of the other switch ports. Do not use the Internet port of Linksys at all. You should be good to go with this setup!
