Fanaa Music Review

I guess I can call this as “Much Awaited music album”, after Rang De Basanti. Talking about music of the movie Fanaa. The music is given by Jatin Lalit. Track Listing is as follows:

  1. Chand Sifarish – Shaan, Kailash Kher
  2. Mere Haath Mein – Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Aamir Khan, Kajol
  3. Des Rangila  – Mahalaxmi Iyer
  4. Dekho Na - Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan
  5. Chanda Chamke – Babul Supriyo, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Master Akshay Bhagwat, Aamir Khan, Kajol
  6. Destroyed in Love  [Lounge Mix] - Instrumental
  7. Fanaa For You [Chand Sifarish Club Mix] – DJ Aqeel

First song Chand Sifarish, is the one which is being played in the promos and creates lot of expectations when Kailash Kher adds his voice in the song but expectations ends up when you realize that he had sung only couple lines in the song….the song is good not bad but not upto the mark…to be frank I was expecting the song to be something else only..I was expecting some kind of fusion…

Second one Mere Haath Mein, this one gives better feelings when you hear Sonu Nigam (ouch he is Sonu Nigaam now) and Sunidhi Chauhan…slow song, very well sung…Amir Khan and Kajol have sung couple of lines in it…

Third one Des Rangila, gives classic kind of feeling, sung in some village or something…may be filmed on Kajol singing in Kashmir…this one is sung by Mahalaxmi Iyer, good lyrics. As name suggests, the song is on our country India..not bad, not good…ok ok song…

Fourth one…Dekho Na, this one seems to be better than other ones…very sweet song…Sunidhi and Sonu have sung it very well…specially Sunidhi…very nice song…

Fifth one..Chanda Chamke, this sounds like, song for kids…may be Kajol and Amir Khan’s son singing it…Kajol teaching her son…and yeah Amir Khan also teaches his lessons in the song…nah..I didn’t like it…

Sixth one…Destroyed in Love, this one is instrumental…Lounge Mix..they have mixed lounge kind of music with the theme music…pretty good…I liked it….

Seventh, the last one….Fanaa For You, this one is remix of the first song Chand Sifarish…this one gives some energy in the beginning…but there was no need for this mix…it just doesn’t match with the fast theme…the song is better when it’s slow…

Anyways, I have stopped playing that song and played Dekho Na song again…

So, let me sum it up…

Track Listing by Rating (Starting from good ones)

  1. Dekho Na
  2. Mere Hath Mein
  3. Chand Sifarish
  4. Destroyed in Love (Instrumental)
  5. Des Rangila
  6. Fanaa For You
  7. Chanda Chamke

I would give this sound track 2.5 stars out of 5, the music is made for the masses, no new stuff tried like A R Rahman (Rang De Basanti), the music might not do well in the beginning but as people listen to it more, they might like it…

  1. Even I downloaded the songs yesterday.

I liked 2-3 songs.. I am yet to listen for more than 3 times. Maybe you’ll like it if you listen for many times.

  2. I think ppl like songs more once they see the picturization of film. Like in case of Rubaroo in RDB. You said not everyone would like to listen. however, ppl liked the song a lot after they watched it in the film.

I thinkg we should wait for may 26 for complete review ;-)

  3. i downloaded the songs yesterday and found 2-3 nice . but it takes time to like a song . There are a lot of songs which i didnt like at first but loved them after listening to them afterwards.

  4. Hmmm well great review there.

Well the songs will be launched on FM channels on 17th here in Delhi.
Le me just try opening the radio tomorrow then.

  5. i think the chand sifarish song in the best of the lot. yes it is not what you expect when you hear kailash kher’s rendition of ‘subhan allah’ (simple amazing!!). but give it a couple of hearing and u will simple love it. i think shaan did a brilliant job. i cant stop listening to it. and the lyrics….the mukhda itself is worth listening to the whole song.

the other songs are nice too, but i was more looking for something i could keep listening again and again…. nothing histrionic……
the best part of the album are the lyrics….

  6. well.. a yet another brilliant offering from the chopra camp….hear it around 3-4 times….u’ll find equivalent to rang de basanti and in my case maybe better than it….sunidhi chauhan singing a slow song…she’s brillliant along with sonu nigam n shaan…chand sifarish n tere haath mein n actually all of the songs are brilliant…kudos to jatin lalit n wat a pity dat this is there last offering together as a team…
    MUSIC OF FANAA ROOOCCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Guyz….havent anyone noticed ??? Chanda chamke song is same tune from kunal’s previous movie Hum Tum. The song is Yaara Yaara. I can’t believe Jatin Lalit used the same tune, changed guitar to whistle and put it in such a big and important movie.

  8. Hi everyone!

Frankly speaking I purchased the movie after the listing the wonderfully renderd words of “Subhan ALLAH” but in the end i am sad to say it is not what I am expecting. I am expecting something like Deep said a good fusion but…

Whole album is stricktly OK excluding the words from Kelash Kher…

    “Subhan ALLAH”.

And I think it is not appropriate to make a comparison between Fanaa and RDB as the main difference is the mind set. In case of RDB everyone is looking for AR Rehman and here for Aamir, Kajol and the house Yash Raj is known for melody. It is like a typical indian love sound track where as RBD is like of lyric heavy make you think sort of songs.

  9. hey urchin is rite.. u jst cant compare rehman to ne present music director. hes GOD. jatin lalit etc. r useless un front of him.

  10. Hi, KayKay
Well i did not mean this, ofcourse he is a human. But again there is comparison between the two as they both are different from the core.

By the way Deep (and everyone else too) have you heard the songs of Gangster.. there are few good tunes. I recommend you to listen “Ya Ali” and then “Bheegi Bheegi”. Arrangements of Bheegi Bheegi are good.

  11. well, i was a lot dissapointed with the music of fanaa. after humtum, i expected a lot better from kunal kohli. fanaa is just another average composition with nothing new. the title song has a nice composition, but shaan’s voice is too compressed, udit would have been better. the song ‘chanda chamke’ has its tunes copied deto from the humtum song,’YAARA YAARA MAIN TO’[not included in the film, but it was there in the albums, sung by alka and udit]. did they really have to remind one that THEY made humtum?and did nobody, except KRISSH notice? really!cant anybody compose anything original? they should learn from RAHMAN in RDB. the title song also contains preludes and interludes from the humtum song yara yara. koilash kher’s rendering of SUBAH ALLAH was soulful though. ‘chanda chamke’ is a bogus song….nothing good in it. ‘dekho na’ is a sweet romantic number, i like sonu’s melodious voice…but it is an alka yagnik genre song…sunidhi chauhan doesnt fit in somehow. the other songs are soso…but not rememberable. i couldnt believe such a highly waited-for movie contains such an average music…what happened to jatin-latin…who gave us DDLJ,KKHH,K3G,HUMTUM and other hits? the lyrics are nice…but i dont think a movie….much waited for the1)amir kajol pairing, and 2)kajol’s comeback after 4 years deserved this. comeon kunal!!! did humtum’s success screw u? or why such horrible music? the music of KRISSH is a lot better.

  12. hey urchin….bheegi bheegi is a nice song no doubt, but did u know, its a copy of a bengali band song..BHEBE DEKHECHO KI TARARAO KATO ALOK BARSO DURE. u should listen to the original version….the gangster song is damn horrible compared to the original one….

  13. one song of the movie KRISSH has come out, and its nice…a sonu nigam romantic, though i cant still guess why hritick wears a amir-khan-in-lagaan-dress there

  14. Hi Bhamu!

I do know that it was the hindi copy of the bangali song but hav’nt listened the orignal.

i think “chaand sifarish” is best song of the album
jatin lalit have maintained their standerd in it
but it could have been more better if they have not used tune from “yaara yaara…HumTum”.it does not matches with song.

but song is still rocking ….”very sweet”
    remaining are ok type
    nothing sensational

According to me “mere haath mein” is the best & the most romantic song of the movie. The rhythem, the variation of music, and foremost the voice of “Sonu Nigam”, i think attracts all the music lovers to this song. Only Sonu has the ability to sing such kinda songs. He is the one who has made all the difference. The second one into my rating is Fanaa For You. All other are so-so.

Hey Rakesh, u can download the songs from :

  17. Bhaiyo and Bhaiyo ki baheno..!!

Those who think or feel that music of Fanaa is anything less then ***** then they need to check their knowledge of music..
And if its about re-using tunes of Humtum.. It has been past track record of YRF to use tracks of their previous muvis.. nuthing new..

Fanaa Simply rocks Bros.. Just listen to these songs 3-4 times .., and u’ll be addicted like me..
CLose your eyes and drawn urself to songs like Mere haath mein (Which i rate Number 1 Song of the Album..) and then Chand Sifarish..

Boss Lyrics ko bhi mat bhulo.. Simply great… And boy Bhamu.. u remember tracks like Jo Jita wohi sikandar, DDLJ, Khiladi, Aankhe, Yes Boss, Raju Ban gaya Gentalmen (Laveria song…), And Yara Dil Dara (Bin tere sanam).. they does not need anybody’s certificate to prove themselves great Melody makers…

Just Sunk urselves in this music..!!!

  18. i think its a deja vu. dont know where i hav the tunes in my head but im guessing tamil songs. it has the essence of tamil music. dont ask me why. at this moment im wondering too.

  19. this album is typically rahman type, but the surprise is that it is given by jatin lalit
    exellent work!!!!

  20. i luv all the songs they are superb….specially the subhan allah…the whistle in it is awesumm………waitin 4 the movie to release

  21. hey can anyone get the lyrics for “Chand Sifarish” from Fanna??…pls email me the lyrics if by any chance u can get it…Thanksssssssssssss :)

  22. hey fanna songs r gud, itz not dat bad how u reviewed ok. itz gud. when u hear it many times its gud may b not when u 4 da first time.so finally fanna songs r GUD.

  23. I think its a good album but not up to the expactation i will give full marks to the first song Chand Sitare specially that santoor part. All other songs are also ok but it will not click you when you hear first time.

  24. sameer , thats what i’ve been trying to tell, but everybody misunderstands….a good song is a song, which clicks to u right at the first time….u see….each n every song u hear will hear good to u, if u hear it thousand times over….fanaa songs are of that category….except for chand sifarish of course….and also take a peek at the kriss songs….they r horrible!!!!

  29. hi pritz…

i agree to u…u get addicted to the songs..literally they are soul soothng songs…

  30. Hello friends
its my first time that hear a melodious songs of Fanna Movie after a very long time …. which carry me back in 1990′s ….

  31. i actually like the des rangila song. its very beatiful. mahalaxmi iyer sung it beautifully. as for chand sifarish its ok except the subhanallh part. i think its wrong for them to use religious terms like that in songs. i love amir khan and kajol pair up. they could be the next best thing.

  32. Does anyone know what the tune being whistled in the song Chaand Sifarish is? Its been really bugging me! Please help!

  33. hi . . . . .
After a long time, i love kajol ,m very excited for this movie .
chand sifarish its a lovely song.

  34. Hi….
Nice Music review….I saw some of the posts comparing AR Rehman & Jatin -Lalit..Well, I differ to those….When you check the Music profile of J-L, They have more successful Music albums then AR Rehman….Rehman is good in Rhythmic music ( Where new experiments are done) but J-L are King of melody & romantic songs…

  35. fanaa music is outstanding chand sifaarish is too good, it is really too good.shaan has done a great job & his voice is most suitable for aamir, abhishek and saif.undoubtedly he is the best singer of new generation.
    other songs are also good.

  36. I agree with u in totality, Devang. The music profile of J-L is just too good – i believe they r the melody kings. AR Rehman is no comparison to J-L in this regard. The songs of RDB are just direful. And as much as Fanaa is concerned, kudos to Shaan. Great job !!

  37. Hi…
After hearing the Fanaa song in the morning, I wanted to hear the title track again and had to search a lot before getting here and listening to not only the title track but all songs …for me it’s still the title track that I am humming…
Nice album I wld say and some good efforts by Jalit-Lalit to maintain their tradition of soft and romantic music combined with good lyrics and singing.
But didn’t like the Hum Tum’s remembrance in the music..This could have been avoided I think..
Eagerly looking forward to see the movie and picturization of songs to relate more..

  38. why aint they put in the tune ”ya ali” and ”subhan allah” these two are tha best tunes on tha whole.

i say its just plain racisit!!!!!!!!!

  39. To Abhi and Devang,

“J-L are melody kings and blah blah blah…….”

    gimme a break!!!!

everyone here knows that Rehman is the GOD of the Indian Film Industry…….literally!!

You guys need to check your brains.
