Indian Payment Gateways – a big joke?

Ads

Thinking of using Indian Payment Gateways for your online service? Don’t go for them, they are a big joke. Here is info about some of the payment gateways.

CCAvenue: They are considered to be the best providers in India. (There is no competition in the market) They provide online order processing via Net Banking as well as by credit card. They charge Rs. 7500 as setup fees, 7% transaction fees for Credit Card Processing and 4% transaction fees for net banking. They also charge Rs. 1200 per year as Annual Software Maintenance Cost. (lol just another way to get yearly fees) They have other plan which costs Rs. 25,000 as setup fees, 5% transaction fees for Credit Card processing and 4% for net banking. The annual fees they charge is Rs. 2400 as Software Maintenance Cost.

But note that, it is not so easy to get account with them if you are running a web development firm. My personal experience was very bad with them. I felt as if I am begging for an account.

I applied for a basic account (Rs. 7500 one). Within 4-5 days I got email saying my account got rejected because I am running a web development firm and it is owned by a single person. This one was one of the worst excuse that anyone could give. But after requesting them couple of times, they approved only net banking facility on my account. I was left without credit card processing which was my primary concern for applying the account.

Few days back I decided to ask them again to activate the credit card processing. I sent them an email and talked to their person in legal department over the phone. They took more than a week to decide and finally today she told me that if I want credit card processing on my account I will have to deposit Rs. 30,000. And they repeated the same reason about having a single ownership web development firm. They also told me that, they are asking for this amount as security deposit for chargebacks.

So in short, they are giving silly reasons despite of me signing their legal documents which says they have right to sue me if I don’t pay them chargeback money.

I am currently using 2checkout.com, they are 10 times bigger than CCAvenue and they activated my account within 1 hour after the signup. The only problem I have with them is, payment delay. It takes approximately 20 days to get the payment.

But I think applying for CCAvenue is just waste of money if you are running a proprietorship web development / hosting firm.

Transecute: This is another payment gateway service from India. (I think it is service of Directi) But like CCAvenue, they are also useless. They charge Rs. 30,000 as setup fees and 5% transaction fees. But one good part is, they do not charge any annual fees.

ABCPayments: This service is by IndiaMart, InterMesh. Their rates are almost same compared to CCAvenue. Rs. 7,000 setup fees, Rs. 2,000 per year as annual rent and 7% transaction fees. The same plan is available for Rs. 10,000 one time and no yearly fees. The other plans are Rs. 10,000 and Rs, 16,000 with annual rent as Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 6,000, transaction fees %6 and %5 respectively. They also offer net banking but it is limited to few major banks only. As of October 2009, ABC Payment has shut down their service.

Payseal ICICI: They have not provided any rate related information on their site. As far as I know, they charge Rs. 25,000 as setup fees and 5% as transaction fees. (I have emailed them for exact rates) For integration with this payment gateway, you need Tomcat installed on your server. (Or any application which can run JSP pages)

PayGateIndia: The rates mentioned on their site range from 0 setup fees to Rs. 8,000 setup fees. Their economy package costs Rs. 0 as setup fees but 8% as transaction fees and Rs. 750 per year as annual cost. Their rates are very cheap compared to other payment gateway service providers but I am not sure about credibility of this payment gateway. They seem to be reseller of ICICI Payseal. (I have emailed ICICI to confirm their validity)

Eazy2Pay: Again, like ICICI, these guys too do not have rates mentioned on their site. But after exchanging few emails, I got the details. It starts with Rs. 10,000 setup fees and 5% transaction fees. Fees is one time fees and no annual charges. Their best plan is Rs. 25,000 setup fees and 3.5% transaction fees. They have few big companies in their client list. So it holds some credibility in its bag.

Update – June 30, 2007:

Cashwala or EBS - This one is by UTI Bank. Their pricing seems to be pretty high, Rs. 11,000 one time charge, 6% transaction rate and Rs. 6000 every year as Maintenance Charge. Check more plans here

But to cut everything in short, compared to international payment gateways these guys are way too costly. Currently only few players are in market so they are charging whatever they want but once Google comes into play (I think they are currently setting up Checkout service in India, it might take longer time too), their rates are going to reduce a lot.

Currently PayPal and 2checkout are good payment gateway providers and their transaction and setup fees are also very reasonable. But the only thing they lack is, time to deposit the funds in our accounts. It takes approximately 15-20 days.

Update: Rejoice!!!! Paypal has introduced direct funds transfer to your Indian Bank Account.. The best part is, they do not charge any fees for funds more than
Rs. 7,000 (otherwise it is Rs. 50). The whole process takes 5-7 days. Thanks Venkat for the heads up.

I hope Google Checkout starts in India soon.

and it immidetly reflects the amount in my acocunt..
    cool one..

    rest all sucks..

Hey… I had spoken to CCAvenue guys through their online chat. They seem to support a very limited number of businesses. And Website development/hosting dsnt not figure out in their list. You need to have some product to seel they say. Well Paypal rox… even if it takes time for the money to reach your account, its still the cheapest way to go about.

  4. Thilak Thilak

    I’d rather use PayPal, but I haven’t tried 2checkout.

PayPal is the best because its popular and lots of people use it

Good post there, Deep. Something I been wanting to do for sometime now, but cudn’t find the time.

My experience with CCA left much to be desired. ICICI support sucks. I generally propose Paypal or 2CO to my clients.

I guess most of the Indian banks are stupid not to explore the online payment scenario in a IT savvy country like India. Lets hope the situation changes

  7. Deep Deep

Yup, you are right. I still haven’t got any reply from ICICI till now and it makes them as par with my expectations (bank with poor customer support)

In india, service providers take advantage of the situation. Earlier (and now also), mobile providers charging very high call rates, now ISPs charging high rates and now these Payment Gateway service providers…

I really want google to start their service in India, so that these people will run behind the customers than making the customers run behind them.

hey, dont lay your bets on Google. They suck mighty bigger than all these guys put together.

    hey, thnx for the review.
we r planning to open an online shop operating from india, aiming at NRI customers but are unable to decide our Credit Card Payment gateway, its so confusing. and can any1 suggest good shopping cart software or website?

  12. Deep Deep

    Hi,
If you are going to sell non-tech stuff online (main services or ebooks) then I think CCAvenue is good option. In international payment gateway, Paypal or 2checkout are the best.

About shopping cart software, I would suggest CRELoaded (It is modified version of OSCommerce)

Good reviews on Indian payment gateway situation. Prepares new comers to the reality. I have read somewhere that if we need to use some of the global merchant accounts, we need to have a US savings account. Is that true? I am planning to start a portal in India where transactions will be only in INR. ANy idea as to how forex etc would work in this case?

    Thanks,
    Sai

  15. Deep Deep

    Hi Sai,
I have beem using 2checkout.com and paypal.com for over a year now, there is no need to open account in US Bank for these 2 payment gateways. They send you payment by DD, Cheque or Wire Transfer. They convert the amount to INR according to current conversion rate of that day.

  18. Vinayak Vinayak

    HI,

I wrote blog of similar nature in utter disappointment when I tried to find out about Indian payment gateways.

    http://www.itvidya.com/hold_back_information

I tried to get information from ICICI owned payseal.
After couple of email transactions I gave up.
    They are just too uncooperative.

May be there are not many players in to the market.

Major culprit is chargebacks. When user purchases anything using their creditcard, if they do not receive desired product, they can ask their money back, this money is taken back from seller.

In UK, any business who applies for merchant account for credit card processing terminal or online payment gateway has to go through bank checks. This determines if seller can pay back if purchaser ask for refund.

That is major problem in allocating payment gateway accounts. I believe they offer different rates to different people based on risk involved into industry. They typically cover risk against insurance. This risk insurance determines transaction fee.

    Hey Deep,

Thanks for this post. It really sucks the way Indian so called service economy treats the customers.

If there are enough supporters maybe we can start an online campaign for PayPal / Google services who will need to tie up with Indian Banks and / or Remit2India.

    Looking for comments on this.

    Thanks all.

Thanks for this review. It helped me to decide to go with Paypal for now.

Thanks for the post . i was about to signup with ccavenue since ure now#13 to recommend 2co i decided to go with them :)

    Thanks

  22. Viraj Viraj

We want to start an online store selling software products.

I have seen lot of people recommending 2CO. I have also checked out shareit.com, they seem to be good too. I want to know if it is mandatory for the product to be priced in US$ if I use 2CO?

  23. Deep Deep

Actually, you can show the price of the products in INR and at the time of checkout, you will have to convert the same to USD and passon the value to 2CO as it does not accept payments in INR.

And yes, your customer will be charged USD not INR. Better decision would be to show the price in USD.

    Regards,
    Deep

  24. Deepak Deepak

Thanks for the great information. I am new to this and trying to get facility of online payment in multi currencies. Is there any gateway who accepts payment in INR without conversion. Preferably with low setup fee.

    Thanks again.

  25. Deep Deep

Only Indian Payment gateways will do that and unfortuenately they are not cheap.

  26. Dipanjan Dipanjan

Deep, I am starting an e-commerce venture and found your comparison on the payment gateways. Thank you so much for getting all in one place.

I wanted to know how good is CC Ave for a product-selling e-commerce site?

    Appreciate your feedback on this.

    Cheers!

  27. Deep Deep

Yes, it is good for ecom. sites. Problem is just with single owner web development companies. Do let me know if you need it at discounted rates. I can provide you at good rates :)

  28. Alekh Alekh

Yeah, the payment situation seems hopeless in India. I was looking for a payment solution for my site http://www.buyselloldbooks.com/ so that sellers can accept payment for old used books on the site. I contacted Payseal ICICI over 3 weeks ago by email and still have not received a response from them!

    Hey Deep,
This info and review are the most important thing for a beginner.

Anyways, i need an info. One of my client want to charge registration processing fee to users all over the world. The users will pay via credit cards. I spoke with CC Ave and got the info that currently Master card is not working. If i go with 2CO will the users residing in different parts of the world be able to use all the major cards to pay online?

Also, CC Ave provides live support and Net Banking. What about 2CO?. With the help of documentation will i be able to integrate their shopping cart?

Pls sugguest me the best possible solution.

has anyone tried or heard reviews for paysignet.com?

  32. Deep Deep

I am hearing about them for the first time to be frank.

  33. Trishul Trishul

I happened to stumble upon their website while looking for an Indian Payment gateway. Their rates advertised seem to be lower than the others, not sure about their credibility though.

  34. Rohit Rohit

We have tried to also connect with Tech Process which incidently is a ICICI Group Company probably also connected to Bill Junction.

This is one of the wierdest services I have encountered. They seem to do a decent volume of transactions but they just suck at their service offering. The features they offer are very basic though they promise the sun and the moon before they sign up. The downtimes are often and long during which there is non-existant support. Feels like working with a government department at times

Basically if someone wants an amatuer payment gateway then this is the one to go for. Else stay away.

    Hey,

I have a question and need assitance.
If I use Paypal for my Indian website , then do I need to have a US bank account.

    Or
Paypal will send check to me which I can deposit to my bank account.
Any assistance will be greatly appriciated.

  36. Deep Deep

You don’t need US bank account for that. They will send it to your indian address and you can deposit the DD here itself. Gets cleared in around 4-5 days.

  37. Manmeet Singh Manmeet Singh

    Hi Deep,

Thanks for providing such a informative write up. How much time international payment gateways like paypal , 2 Checkout & others take to remitt the money. I have heard that it is very late & takes more than a months time & there is no notification from their side on payments. Are there any additional chargeback fees incase of 2 Check Out ? Please help me to arrive at a solution.
Also let me know if I have to choose any Indian payment gateway, which is the most suitable one processing Visa & master cards

    regards
    Manmeet Singh

  38. Deep Deep

    Hi Manmeet,
You get Paypal DD in around 15 – 20 days and it takes around 5 days to get cleared.

2checkout has facility to directly transfer the funds to your bank account but the limit is USD 300. If you choose bank check, then the limit is USD 100 but the disadvantage is – it takes approx 20 – 25 days to just clear the cheque (They dont send DD) and around 10 – 15 days for arrival of the cheque.

For Indian payment gateways, read the comments I have posted few threads back.

    Regards,
    Deep

  39. Ashish Ashish

    Hello Deep,

Really nice article and you have written the black hidden truth about the payment gateways of India.

Google Checkout service is currently available only for US and UK. Any idea, when will be launched for India.

Btw, If we accept credit cards payments through paypal (2.9% + $.30 Transaction charge) and for netbanking use CCavenue then what you say on that…?

Or any other service for just support netbanking payments?

Can you tell us before charging RS 7500.00 CCavenue explain all the things like what problem with your application or all netbanking will enable for you… or later after payment and howz the overall service?

  40. Deep Deep

Ashish – Glad to hear that you liked the post. I have just updated the post with 2 more payment gateways. I have no idea about the google’s plan to launch checkout in India but they seem to be employing people for the same in Hyderabad.

About your paypal and ccavenue combination – I am using it the same way. But as mentioned earlier,Paypal takes approx. 20 days to get the DD delivered…

About any other providers with Net banking – I think ABCPayments offers that.

About CCAvenue – Yes, they did tell me that they wont be able to enable credit card service on my account. About their service – they are pretty good and quick in taking care of the customers.

  41. Adi Adi

    Hey Deep,

Thanks for that super article on terrible payment gateway services.

We partnered with CCAvenue first, then with Techprocess. Personally I think both their services suck like hell! The worst hit are my customers who try to make their payments through these payment gateways. Its one helluva frustrating ride for them. CCAvenue – it takes forever to authorize the transaction. Most of the time customers get frustrated and abort the whole process. Techprocess is much much faster that way, but wait! – the transactions never go through – Techprocess is almost always successful in bringing up an error page! Whoa! We drip blood to get customers to buy online in India, and then we suffer because of crap like this!

So we decided to move out. Next POA – Upgrade. Sign up with a payment gateway so we accept payments directly on our site. Researched for three days – here’s the results. ICICI’s PaySeal, HDFC or Citibank offers this service. PaySeal.com has been down for the last three days – brilliant! Call up ICICI customer care, they dont even know such a company exists – beautiful! HDFC – Sent an email, no reply so far. Citibank – can’t find a contact! Any help in this regard will be welcome.

Thanks to Deep and all the posts here – there seems to be hope – Ill just stick with good ol trusty PayPal. One question to you Deep, our products are priced in INR, do we have to convert to dollars before we send the value to PayPal? If yes, how do we do that? And has anyone lost money while converting back and forth from INR to Dollars (when sending the value to PayPal) and then back from Dollars to INR (while getting your DD from them)?

    Thanks.

  42. Deep Deep

    Hi Adi,
Sad to hear your story, give it a shot to EBS, it is a company of UTI guys, they are pretty costly compared to others but they claim that they are better than everyone. I talked to their reps and got some info. Just fill the form on their site, they should get back to you within 24 hours or so. But again, I have no idea how they are so the decision will be yours..

About Paypal – yes, you will have to convert them back to USD before sending it to Paypal. You need to write a code which will convert the INR to USD and then send it to Paypal.

Paypal will send payments in INR (they have USD option too).

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Deep

  43. Adi Adi

    Hey Deep,

Thanks for the information. Ill check EBS out.

Another PayPal Q for you. When the customer is taken to the PayPal website, they would see the total amount in dollars and then a request to pay by credit card or paypal account. Seeing the amount in Dollars can be intimidating to some. Is there any to work around this – request PayPal to display total amount in INR?

Also, could you tell me an Indian site which uses Paypal, would like to use it and check the process out for myself.

    Thanks.

  44. Deep Deep

    Hi,
I don’t think so you can show amount in INR on Paypal, they can show in AUD, GBP, USD and couple of other currencies but not INR.

About paypal account or credit card directly – they have 2 options, if a customer does not have account, they ask you to enter the credit card info or signup..

Checkout paypal’s merchant tools or somehting, there might be some option to accept credit card information on your site itself but I am not sure about it..

About Indian sites using Paypal, I am not sure about any…

  45. Mayank Behl Mayank Behl

    Hi Guys!

As far I know, Abcpayments is the best payment gateway in india. I am using it for the last 3 years and i hardly remember any problem faced in using it.

It has fantastic features like Multi Currency Support,Technical Support, No Hidden Charges, All Major Payment Modes, Online Merchant Interface, Highly Secure, Compatibility, Prompt Payments etc.

So guys, Cheer up! There is a paymentgateway in India you can rely upon..

  46. Ashwani Ashwani

Can u plz. tell me the rates for PayPal and 2checkout
    Thanks

  47. Avinash Avinash

Does anyone know when google checkout is gonna be launched? I’ve been searching for economical payment gateways for a month now… the best thing to do is to first become an affiliate or reseller for the payment gateway you want to use for your website(MERCHANT) and resell it to yourself this way your setup fee will be very low…If I were a reseller and a merchant with EBS then I’d have to pay Rs18000 setup +3.25% TDR… I think paysignet.com is the best among the worst…. there’s this new mobile payment gateway called paymate.co.in… no setup fee 3% on transaction value…
Somebody I know is using the ICICI bank payment gateway and is being charged 1.9% TDR only + fixed deposit of Rs30000 which is a superb deal… I tried contacting payseal… their site is down… does anybody have anything new on payment gateways?

  48. Deep Deep

Avinash – CCAvenue is smarter in this, they charge 10K to become their reseller and out of that you can buy one credit / account for 5K instead of 7500. So in short, they keep your 5K as their so called fees. (Indirectly ofcourse)

  49. Trishul Rai Trishul Rai

Deep I think you should also update your article with fees associated with using foreign gateways like paypal that do not process the payment in INR. I have seen that most people when doing an analysis of the Indian gateways and foreign gateways, only look at the TDR, but do not take into account the “Foreign Currency Transaction Fee”.

When you process the payment for your site in USD and your customer is using an International credit card (issued in India) he (i.e. the customer) is charged a foreign currency transaction fee (ranges from 3 – 3.5%). Take any credit card you have and take a look at the fee structure associated with that card and you will find this fee listed. The Indian banks don’t even show this as a separate charge on the customers statement, but very conveniently masks it within the dollar/rupee conversion rate. This means that when your customer buys item X from your site and pays say $100 for it through paypal, he actually gets charges $103.5
So in totality being an Indian customer of paypal you also need to consider this fee in addition to the TDR.

  50. Deep Deep

Trishul – I think credit card guys add around Re. 1 – 2 extra on the dollar rate. For example:

if your total amount is USD 100 i.e. Rs. 4,000 considering Rs. 40 as the rate, so credit card companies charge around Rs. 41 – 42 per dollar.. so you pay Rs. 4200 which makes USD 105

And like you said, Yes, that is the disadvantage there and 2nd bad thing can be, the conversion rate these payment gateways use to transfer the money. It is again generally difference of 50 paise to Re. 1 per dollar.

Actually there is lot of scope for Indian payment gateways here, they can do really well but they have to cut down their costs. High costs just does not make any sense to a small businessman.

  51. Adi Adi

Deep, I am planning to integrate PayPal for my international customers. I have a small question for you, related to converting Indian Rupees to Dollars. Is there a code by which you can connect to some resource and obtain the Rupee – Dollar rate for the day and, then use that to convert the total value to dollars before passing it over to PayPal? Or, do you simply divide by an average rate taken over several months – something like 42.47 and use that value?

    Thanks

  52. Raju Raju

    Dear Deep,

You seem to have a negative attitude with respect to indian gateways. You are telling good about International gateways but do not reveal about their negative points.

First of all, 2Checkout has an additional cost incase of chargeback transactions. Cashflow from international gateways are very poor. The cordination with them is very poor as you can not speak or interact with them as you do with indian gateways. Paypal has a limit on releasing payments to merchants in India. Any excess amount which is above the limit is not paid. Contesting chargebacks is very difficult incase of international teransactions.

please discuss these points also when tell about international gateways & do not misguide people.

Yes, indian gateways do charge set up cost but you get certain benefits also.

Regarding Google, their product is completely different and cannot be compared with payment gateway.

  53. Deep Deep

Raju – I do not have any negative attitude about indian payment gateways but I am just telling everyone the reality. I am not saying that Paypal, 2checkout are the best but I am saying that they are better than Indian payment gateways, atleast they help to you start your ebusiness whereas our Indian payment gatways do the exactly opposite of it.

About chargeback fees – Yes, 2chckout does charge but it is merely Rs. 450 (USD 11)if the chargebacks are less than or = 1% and the max chargeback fees is Rs. 2000 (USD 50) but this is only when your chargebacks are more than 3% of total sales. Which is again rarely possible; Unless you are selling some defective stuff.

About cashflow – if you meant the dollar to ruppee conversion then, paypal is pretty good. They pay good coversion rate. 2checkout is OK, they sometimes pay around Re. 1 less per dollar.

About the customer support – I have interected with 2checkout customer support, I am satisfied with it. The replies were pretty quick. But yea, the phone support will be the problem as you will have make an international call. Or simply you can buy outgoing credits from yahoo and call at around 40 paise per minute. (That’s cheaper than what we pay for local calls)

About paypal’s limit – It is USD 2500 which is around Rs. 1 lakh per month.. I think that will be sufficiant for any small business.

About benefits of Indian payment gatways – Yes we do get but their charges are something which cover all the benefits. So at this point of time, I do not see it is feasible for small business to go for Indian payment gateways.

About google checkout being different – I don’t think so it will be any different. Afterall it is a payment gateway service. Just wait for google and then see the magic. All these guys will lower down their rates.

It was same with cell phone guys too, they ripped the customers apart by charging 10 – 16 Rs per call but now, they are providing calls for as low as 30 paise per minute.

The problem with Indian companies is, they do not look for benefit of the customers, they always look for making money. I am not against payment gateways making money out of it but there is no point in making money by ripping the customer apart with their high fees.

I hope it clears all your doubts.

    cheers
    Deep

OMG Deep, you are everywhere. This is the 3rd topic where I have had to google and your blog’s link shows up on page 2 and all my queries are solved. haha.

Thanks for the review. I have to go with Paypal too. The best option there is.

Oh well, lets see what happens.

  55. Deep Deep

Preshit – haha good one. Actually I am in the process of setting up a mini google myself lol kidding. On the serious note, just try my best to help out people and after all Google knows, I am a pretty decent guy ;)

Hey can someone tell me how to accept Indian rupees on Paypal? if it is not possible can I display rupees and USD side by side on my checkout page? or is there any program that converts rupees into USD?

  57. Avinash Avinash

What are your views on moneybookers.com?

  58. Aakruti Aakruti

Hey guys, My experience is totally otherwise with foreign gateways. I tried PayPal and 2Checkout and bot charge a bomb indirectly. My Non-US customers that they are charged a currency conversion fee by their issuing banks i.e. in the rate of USD 8 to uSD 10 for every transaction! Plus, it takes twenty days or more for the PayPal / 2CO cheques to clear in my account. The conversion I get is almost 1 rupee les than the INR-USD currency rates .i.e. if the USD rate is 40.60 today, I get 39.60 to the dollar. I just calculated my last month turnover and after looking at all expenses and currenct conversion losses, I paid 8.50% of my total monthly turnover. Based on your discussion here, I had switched from CCAvenue to 2CO as my primary gateway and PayPal as backup. Now, I am going back to my ccavenue INR and USD gateway. Bloody hell, timely, weekly payouts, better service than these so called foreign gateways branded ‘fanatical services’. Deep, I think a lot of people are seriously misguided by your posts here. Our indian gateways are not that bad.

  59. Deep Deep

Aakruti – Currency Conversion Fees – why should it be USD 8 – 10 ? I don’t think so it can be. I have made many transactions using paypal and as a customer credit card company adds Re. 1 additional approximately in the conversion rate but that is not on the seller but it is on buyer. The same applies for any non-indian customer buying from any Indian payment gateway. So it is nothing new. But USD 8 – 10 is surely bit unbelieveable.

About days to transfer the amount – I have clearly mentioned that in my post too. Just read the post properly and you will get what idea. In short, for paypal, it takes around 15 – 20 days and for 2checkout, it takes around 10 days.

About currency transfer rates – well, the difference is not actually of Re. 1 but it is around 20 – 25 paise or something.

I just transfered some funds at conversion rate Rs. 40.3900 and actual conversion rate is Rs. 40.5547895 per USD.

About being mis-guided by my post – well, I am not asking anyone to choose the payment gateway. I am just making the whole picture clear.

I hope this makes things clear.

    cheers
    Deep

great knowledge shared infact i am going through the process of selecting a payment gate way but i find the page very late after many email exchanges but has not been able to select one ……

thye are not effordable for start ups thats the truth

  61. sal sal

    Hey Deep,
We are offering a recurring service to our clients. We have checked out ccav. but they donot have a recurring payment option. I want to be debiting my client’s account automatically every month. None of the indian gateways are offering recurring billing. What other choices do I have? I want something up and running quickly. If I go for 2co, is it ok then that indian clients will be paying in usd – i thought there was a RBI law that indians purchasing in india should be paying in inr….please throw some light on this. Thanks.

  62. sal sal

Hey I just spoke to 2co and they said that in order to wire the funds to india there has to be a minimum of 1lakh rupees. Is that true?

    Is 2co really good?

  63. Deep Deep

Sal – They say that 1 Lakh is limit but it used to work for me for less amount too.. but it is better not to take the risk. Try using Paypal?

  64. sal sal

Does paypal have a minimum amount that needs to be transferred out to India? Also, would my US paypal act. work or I need a get a new one which says country=India?
    Thanks for your help.

can you tell which is the best value for money payment gateway in india for the indian consumers?

    waiting for your comments sir

  68. Merwan Irani Merwan Irani

Dear Deep, I am merwan of hotelsapphire.net. We are using ccavenue for last 5 years for my wife’s gifting portal….no issues at all. a word of advice to my young friends, Go for them blindly. i dont beleive the negative comments about them. they accept all credit crads (yes, i had mastercard reactivated through them), all net banking, cash acrd , mobile payments. such decent polite replies from their support team and that also pretty quick replies, timely payments. We have negotaited our rates below 3.5%. Comeon guys….i know grass is always greener on the other side and most of us indians have a fascination for anything phoren and always ready to ridcule anything indian. i know thousands of indian merchants are using ccavenue and ….i did a reservation at Taj Nasik yesterday…and yes even TajHotels.com is using them for hundreds of their properties. Hey deep bro…i know they rejected your credit card appliaction but you dont have to take revenge on them through this blog and mis-guide other merchants to go to american gateways. I am not holding any briefs for ccavenue people but the fact in life is that small thing about our indian gateways and every body is ready to ridicule and blow it up. Anything good and nobody comes forward to write golrifying tributes…. thousands are using them but nobody has the time to write some good. Maybe you guys have not researched about ur two (heavily promoted) phoren gateways PayPal ( http://www.paypalsucks.com ) and 2CO ( http://www.webhostingtoolbox.com/details/67/119/ ). Based on the above comments on ur blog, i can read a lot of merchants from india have gone in for paypal and 2co. therefore all transactions between indian customers on these indian merchant websites will be routed through ( your mai baap country ) US of A. Thanks Deep. Jai Hind!

  69. Deep Deep

Merwan Irani – No offence but it seems that CCAvenue sent their whole gang here to prove that they are very good. But they do not know that I never said anything bad about their either..I never said that do not go for CCAvenue.. my post clearly states the following:

“But I think applying for CCAvenue is just waste of money if you are running a proprietorship web development / hosting firm.”

And check other comments where I have replied to people and mentioned that for their business CCAvenue is good…

I am saying it again, they are not the good option for the single owner web service providing companies… (the reasons have been stated in the post)

About bad mouthing about them because they rejected my credit card application – I am not actually, I am just here to tell people the truth.. Now, it is on people to decide with whom they want to go…

About asking everyone to go for American gateways – well, I can’t help it if you cannot read the post properly…. find me a single line where I have asked people to go for American payment gateway? And, even if I have said, then you should think, why I must have said it?

Don’t you think asking for 12K, 25K, 30K just for the basic setup is a bad idea? Do you think yearly 1500 makes any sense? Well, why would anyone ridicule Indian payment gateways if they are providing good start to people? Here they are just to mint money, not to do the business.

Current era of Indian payment gateways is just like when mobile services started….overpriced.. too overpriced.. but once other competitors entered.. they came down to 50 paise per call.. the same thing is going to happen with these guys too…

Just see when Google checkout comes to India… mark my words.. these guys will reduce their rates like anything….

    They just need good competition..

P.S. Above comments are pointed to every payment gateway from India.. not to any particular payment gateway…

  70. I completely agree with author. ccavenue rejected us (http://www.linuxbazar.com) the same way with no logical reason. i event talked to their singapore office but in vain.

Instead of going through all this mess, why not just sign up with EasyStoreHosting.com They provide integration by default for all these payment gateways and you can use all or switch between gateways as per your choice. We use http://www.easystorehosting.com and are very happy with it. They keep on adding new payment gateways all the time. They even offer Google Checkout in India.

  71. Deep Deep

Surya Prakash Loonker – I really doubt about legal status of using google chckout in India.. it is not officially out..

  72. hemant hemant

i request the author to please say something on http://moneybookers.com/.because they claim what they charge for india it is 3.5% only… I have signed an agreement with them… 3.5% without any initial setup fee is the best deal you can ever get … even paypal is not as good as this… paypal does not support indian rupees directly… but moneybookers support indian rupees…7% from ccavenue is double the charge of moneybookers… ccavenue is very very expensive…. I am working on a margin of only3-5% so I require a very economical payment gateway and thats why I chose moneybookers… after 6 months moneybookers will review my account and give me a further discount in the tdr… so i am more than willing to go with moneybookers…

  73. Ashish Ashish

moneybookers looking good, hope deep will more light and explanation on this.

And google checkout is not for india yet. Avoid such companies which mention misleading information to increase the business.

  74. Deep Deep

Moneybookers – I won’t be able to provide review on it as I have never used it but when i googled for it, the reviews did not impress me much.

  75. hemant hemant

reviews do look bad to me but because wikypedia used it during there fund raiser so may be its not that bas but for start up its risky and i will not like to take that much …..but u know greed !

  76. hemant hemant

    secure certificate expired
http://www.paygateindia.com no one is sure about there credibility but they are if they are the best indian gate way for the start ups and bit others in pricing they offer 5% charges for 8000 flat fee which can be negotiated like other indian business’s as its for merchant and the resellers price will alwayse be lower than that

  77. hemant hemant

payseal(icici) gateway is the costliest available they charge 40,000rs one time charge,10,000 per year and 100,000rs as a deposit ya ek lakh(koi start up to 50k thi start thay 6 to 1 lakh kyathi aave)
they are not even for sme’s they are for the big boys who already has a great business but they charge only 3% bank charge but thats not a big deal
never ever go with them they dont care about your business they only care about their…….

  78. Manoj Manoj

    Re: 2 checkout
This is the important information i would like to share with you guys.

According to the new RBI regulations the payout should be $2500 (INR 1 lakh). This is when you choose currency wire. Change the settings in banking wizard to bank wire and recieve currency in USD instead of INR.

Opt for bank wire not currency wire.

  79. Manoj Manoj

    Deep,

    I have a question..
I am into web serices , target market is US. I need a payment gateway i can recieve instantly the payment in my account. This is my major concern . I cannot wait for 15- 20 days for getting the payment credit.

    What could you suggest??

  80. sal sal

    Manoj,
Does that mean that then we can transfer sums lower than 2500 USD from 2CO? have you used 2Co?

We are trying to get in touch with ICICI but somehow they don;t want new business – customer service is not responsive!

Has anyone used Verisign’s PayFlow Pro? We need a gateway with recurring debit options on a monthly basis.

  81. Deep Deep

Manoj – For US payment, I liked Xoom.com, they are not a payment gateway but it allows users from US to transfer money to any Indian account. They have few options like, wire tranfer, cheque devlivery, cash withdrawal etc..

It takes around 4-5 business days for funds to reach in ur account… I have used it and works fine…

But their only disadvantage is, they deduct around Rs. 1.5 per dollar in conversion rate…

  82. Ashish Ashish

Deep, yes xoom is good and even i used lot of times. But recently i think there is some problem in indian office because last payment transferred by me 8 days before not even dispatched yet and when call to customer service then they said we will dispatch today and you will receive this tomorrow. Saying same thing again and again looks like now they are also becoming proper indian.

  83. SUMIT SUMIT

    Deep,
Please tell me which is the best option for starter-ups like us, where we don’t intend to spent more on a payment gateway. Do you think CCAVENUE is good amongst all operators in India, as it seems from your writings. Rank them, if it is possible. I don’t find the credibility of paygateindia. What about the wallet365.com promoted by Times Internet Ltd.. I wrote several emails; getting a response from them is far from expectation.

  84. hemant hemant

i think a surat based gateway called Epayments.in they are also like cc avenue but what they charge is much less than cc-avenue their set up fees start with 4500 R.s and there yearly fees 1260R.s and they charge 7% per transaction

  85. Hi,

    I m going with paypal

  86. Raju Raju

    Dear ALL,

It is seems that Mr. Deep has done Ph.D in internet payment Business ( Payment gateway) and all his students are reporting to him.

Sir, Sir, Which payment gateway should I Sign Up??

Sir, I have signed up with Paypal. Is it OK ??

It does not looks like a forum where unbiased views are exchanged.

  87. Deep Deep

Raju – I guess, you are still having difficult time understanding the reply I had posted for your comment

Anyways, it is always not necessary that if someone does not echo your views, then it means, they are biased to someone / something.

Let’s not discuss off topic stuff here and keep things related to payment gateway.

    cheers
    Deep

  88. Venkatesh Venkatesh

    Raju,

What gives you the impression that Deep is not open-minded? Believe me, I have been researching online gateways for the last 6 months and this page has been very helpful in giving the pros and cons of the current gateway options available.

  89. hemant hemant

    http://www.paysignet.com/keyfeatures.asp?str=earn
i found this site very efficient but reliability is a what i am concerned with……………..

  90. Venkatesh Venkatesh

I am almost sure that Paysignet is a CCAvenue reseller. They have certainly come up with a very innovative pricing scheme.

  91. Deep Deep

Yups.. right.. their layout and pricing structure is also same…(same format i.e.)

  92. twinkle twinkle

but should i go with the http://www.paysignet.com/ or ccavenue because now i have to have one and global boys are not suitable for Indian audience and what else i can do cant go with payseal 40k one time and 10k per year and axis bank 11k to 15k and 6k per year although a new name paymate a gateway using mobiles and linked bank account will be added advantage which is for free…..
we are not going to get gateways as good as international ones because volumes is low currently and these people dont want to invest in such business like they do in realty or offline retailing……..any way keep smiling we will start one as we grow big

  93. zia zia

hi, i’m using paypal for my services. On one side its good as i don’t have alternate options. But paypal sends payment very late. Moreover there limit of indian customer is $2500 which is very less for me. my site generates a sale of more than $6000+ so balance amount remains in paypal account and no use till again withdrawal limit is open.
Its also risky, because last time paypal locked my account saying they want verification details. like this i may loose big money on paypal.
Recenctly i tried to contact ccavenue, but they are really stupid..and worst excuses…as above my friend listed.
then i approached paysignet.com and within 4 days they approved my account. But i want to know shall i go for paysignet is it good. They pay payments every week. I tried to contact them on phone but no response. REally its very difficult to middle class online business person to have a payment gateway…please help me out.
    regards
    gis

  94. ashish ashish

you are earning 6000+ per month and you are saying middle class online business person.

Btw, now you can withdraw a amount in your credit/debit card from paypal. But indian debit cards are not yet accepted.

  95. twnkle twnkle

i think we should make sure the reliability and accessibility of the gateway service provider when selecting a gateway because great deal of money is associated with it and i think the gateway which has an real office-real phone lines-real peoples present online most the time to take care of your issues will be the ideal one but so far we dont have any but i think axis banks=ebs is most reliable and easily approachable very friendly looking although its very costly and not for a start up with a low capital…………paysignet not look reliable with the way they are responding but who knows

  96. Rishi Sachdeva Rishi Sachdeva

I would like to quote something that has never been posted and no one is familiar with. Paypal can increase your monthly withdrawl limit to as high as 10 k US Dollars even if you are Indian Customer and don’t have a foreign bank account. I have got my Limit Raised to 10 k us dollars just by contacting them. They will ask you to fax some documents at the US fax number. After you do so you will have to wait for about 45 days and follow up with them (Cause their customer service is quite pathetic) and you will have your limit raised. Moreover if you want to withdraw funds immediately from Paypal account; please use Xoom.I am also in touch with Google Checkout People (Senior Staff). They say Google Checkout is expected to hit Indian Market in December.

  97. Deep Deep

Rishi – thanks for the heads up.. I am sure this info is gonna help everyone out here..

Does Indian Banks Will ask me from where the Funds is Comming to your account or not.

Good news. PayPal now allows withdrawal into an Indian Bank account. This makes it a lot less cumbersome to use PayPal:

“Now you can add your Indian bank account to your
PayPal account, so you can withdraw your money
directly to your bank. It saves you time and gives
you faster access to your PayPal funds!

Plus, there is no charge to withdrawal amounts
over INR 7000*. So, go ahead and add your bank account today!”

    Still some questions, though:

1.) I find it strange, however, that the link is to the Ebay India site and not Paypal.com. Does this mean that one needs to be an ebay member to use this service?
    http://pages.ebay.in/paypal%5Fbankaccount/

2.) Does PayPal still apply the foreign exchange fee in addition to the transaction fee? I would think so.

And, it still takes 5-7 days for the account to be credited. Compare this with ccavenue and ebs which usually credit within 24-48 hours.

Nevertheless, this is good news, all the same.

  100. ashish ashish

I also noticed this feature yesterday and transferred the money, let’s see in how many days they will process because after 24hrs still showing a status “Pending” in paypal. No need to be ebay member and don’t charge any thing extra.

  101. Gopal Gopal

I am new in the development on the web, I got really very useful information from here…hats off to all of you guys especially Deep.
I need another info from u guys, about Registration. Is it important for me to get registered with Indian Government as an individual, firm,or company? As i am very new and working individualy for now.
Is registration mandatory before opening and integrating payment gateway with my personal bank account??
Lots of THANK again to all of u…

  102. Deep Deep

    Hi Gopal,
Registering with government is not necessary, having personal account is also ok with payment gateways.

    Regards,
    Deep

When user try to pay me with credit card for the paypal payment request link then he getting a message “Based on the details of your transaction, you will need to sign up for a Paypal Account and add and verify a bank account to complete this payment. Once it is verfied, you can return to the merchant’s site to initiate this payment again. Please provide the information requested below and click ‘Save Information’ to sign up”.

Please tell what can be the reason of this, because without registration user can pay for the request.

  104. prem prem

i have question ofr u guys? if i want to accpet credit card @ my business which is face to face transaction who do i process my credit card with?
    thanks

  105. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

Deeps insights were in fact deep. Thanx pal… very useful. I am currently shopping around for a suitable payment gateway in India. Options I am looking at include EBS, Trillionpay, Paysignet and Eazy2pay. I would really appreciate if anyone having experience with Trillionpay or Paysignet would throw some light on their efficiency. Also exciting is the news of Google Checkout in India. I would like to get in touch with them if anyone has the contact details. Best of luck to all of you with your decision. May God guide us all safely thru this labyrinth.

  106. twinkle twinkle

    dear deep
i recently got a call from pay seal(icici) and i explain them my situation that i am launching a new business and could not afford ur gateway(i have asked them for charges 4 months back)
the caller started offering me discount like they mailed me the set up fees 40ka and he said 30k and the yearly fee will be reversed if i reach 600k turn over and the transaction charge will be just 3% and like that…..
bt i have mad my mind i will go with paypal and offer cod to local customers

  107. Deep Deep

Good, Paypal has become much better after the direct funds tranfer to our bank account.

  108. Ashish Rastogi Ashish Rastogi

But recently paypal made some changes in their agreement like without create a account buyer can pay a amount $10000 (limit for credit card in whole life) from their credit card and if create new account then takes time in verification and all…. that start giving me problems in taking amount from buyers.

  109. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

Twinkle, have you considered the overall impact of transactions via Paypal? Each time the buyer makes a payment thru paypal you are charged a currency exchange fee and you are charged currency exchange again when that amount gets credited to your bank in India. I believe it roughly works out to almost 10 to 12 %. Kinda steep in my opinion.

  110. Ashish Rastogi Ashish Rastogi

Girish may be you are right but best part is, in paypal you don’t required any investment and really good for beginners and if you are dealing with foreign clients.

  111. Ashish Rastogi Ashish Rastogi

Is there any alternative of Paypal, because one of my client having problem in paying through credit card in paypal.

So, if any other service is available which allow accept money through credit card and withdrawal is easy in Indian money or transfer to paypal.

  112. Deep Deep

You can ask client to pay using xoom.com, just make sure that you give your bank details to the client. The funds will get transferred in your bank account within 4-5 days.

    Deep

  113. Avinash Avinash

Question to Deep…Paypal has not charged me any currency conversion fees… when is one charged currency conversion fees? while receipt of payment on my site or while withdrawing the money?

  114. Deep Deep

Avinash, as far as I know, they don’t charge is directly but you can see the difference in conversion rate by 50 paise to 1 Re. They charge around Rs. 50 as fees if the amount is less than Rs. 7000 or something.

    Other charges include, transaction charges.

    Regards,
    Deep

  115. Ashish Rastogi Ashish Rastogi

Deep you are right but problem is user need a fast way of payment… like click the payment link and fill credit card info and that’s it.

For xoom he need to open a account and then fill all the info, and if something gets wrong then again…. a problem.

  116. Deep Deep

Avinash – I am not aware of other faster temporary options for credit card payments. I think just ask him the problems he is facing with Paypal and you can try to find the soltution for it and see?

  117. Ashish Rastogi Ashish Rastogi

Deep – the problem is coming, when user enter the credit card details and submit then paypal ask for signup for a paypal account and enter the bank details for verficiations. And client don’t want to enter the bank details.

  118. Deep Deep

There is a small link below the form to proceed without signup..

  119. Ashish Ashish

There is no link…. check out the screen of what the problem error is…

    http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/7387/paypalerrorzg8.jpg

  120. Deep Deep

Pretty strange, they might have enabled this for US account holders or something. If that’s the case, then I don’t see any other way to fix this thing up.

  121. Ashish Ashish

Well, i think they set a limit of $10,000 for one credit card. If that limit is touched may be in a year then they have to register for the account and not possible without signup.

Many clients face this problem recently and they signed up but few of them not interested in signup with paypal because many frauds happen previously.

  122. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

No one have any insights yet on Paysignet or Trillionpay? FYI Transecute does not accept any new merchant accounts anymore.

  123. Avinash Avinash

If anybody is interested to apply for the paysignet payment gateway… please let me know… I can offer you a discount of Rs1000. Their service is good

  124. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

Avinash, I am looking at paysignet quiet seriously so give me more details. Just how is it that u are able to offer that discount u mentioned? Have u had any past experience with them and for how long? You could post your response either here or send it to me on girishjk at yahoo dot com

  125. nupur nupur

i dont know its right or wrong but here we can get away without paymnet gateway..
1 open a current account with AXIS-UTI(which is free )

2 get a credit card swap machine (which is free too )

3 than call them and ask for MOTO (money order and Telephone order business) which will cost u around 3000 r.s.

and then you will have to get a ssl certificate or need to creat a one and get the details of credit card from your customer and than simply punch it and you will get the fund in your account on the next day…..

  126. Twinkle Twinkle

Using Axis Bank System in this way may lead to Problems.
Always use a Secure and Problem free method. Not that method which may lead you or anyone else in Problem.

As Mention above by Nupur. This is against the rule of a bank.

And Paysignet does not offer any discount. You can manually logon on their website and Live Chat with them.

  127. avinash avinash

@ twinkle… who said paysignet gives discounts? I am a reseller for paysignet and I am authorised to give discounts from the commission that I earn from them.
And can you please explain how and why the AXIS bank MOTO facity can lead to problems? & how is the MOTO facility by axis bank not legal?

  128. nupur nupur

    important declaration

THe idea of using MOTO(money order and Telephone order)

is from Avinash(A friend of my client and a reader of this blog )
    and not mine but
its everyones duty to share any information one get about payment gateway with all the readers/deep who are guiding force to each other
i apologizes if anyone doesn’t like this but i will keep posting information i get …
    thank you every one

We have used WorldPay about 7 years ago and it was way too expensive then so switched to Transecure after two years. Frankly, transecute worked very well for us in accepting Mastercard and Visa but some time ago they stopped the Mastercard. Customer support of Transecute through email is excellent but its hard to reach anyone on phone. I read somewhere in the post that they stopped taking new applications. My experience with them in terms of payout etc is very good.

We are in the process of switching to a new gateway and these posts are definitely helpful. I already to talked to ebs/axis and they are coming out with a new pricing and offers Mastercard- This is a big difference . CCAvenue does not process Mastercard, unless you open a Axis/UTI account and get registered with them (This involves some investment i guess -10K as deposit). Mastercard is a required feature as many of our transactions are failing and thats anotehr reason we are looking to switch.

Paypal with direct deposit in Indian bank looks promising – the only problem is USD conversion , which could intimidate some customers. Also, if someone holds an Indian mastercard , they willbe charged as USD by Paypal and their Bank might apply an exchange rate. So the price at which customer bought and the price thats shown inthe card might be different – This could increase the call to your office :-) . But still Paypal is tempting .

I am in the same boat as most of you here our… I went through all the site mentioned above and read about them “in detail”. Before i list my conclusions i will put in my requirements
    1. I need payments to be in INR (no second thoughts on this)
    2. I need my site name to be displayed on the credit card statement. (This helped me eliminate many providers)
    3. Low cost for a startup

    1. All US gateways are out due to INR requirments
2a. I spoke to CCAvenue, they were good and answered all my queries over phone. But my name wont be displayed on the card statement.
2b. Deep has mentioned about proprietorship/sole owner problem – I discussed this personally with CCAvenue, they mentioned there is no such rule for rejection. But i cant comment on this because i havent applied for one
    3. Cashwala is good – But minimum balance of 10000 is high
    4. EBS is good – need to know what name will be on card statement
    5. Paysignet seems to best suit my requirement – Low initial cost and ‘my name’ on the statement, which i think is necessary for branding and avoiding chargebacks and disputes

Now I read above that ppl feel Paysignet is suspected to be reseller of CCavenue- Firstly on what basis was this conclusion made?(On the look and feel?)
Secondly can a reseller be such a big competitor to the seller himself? Can the terms like name on statement change?
Finally even if he is a reseller what is the harm?

Though this post, by Deep, was started with good intentions, i think it has become way toooooo confusing for users to understand and select.

    My 2 cents
    1. Users need to realize whether they wish to have INR or USD on their site (for users wanting both – many options for u all :) )
    2. I spoke to many friends who said that customers always tend to dispute payment when they do not recognize the sellers name in their statement. Card statements are generated after 51 days (max period) and users forget what was clearly mentioned while payments.
3.FOr me personally having my own name on the statement is
    a. Excellent branding
    b. Avoiding disputes
    c. Fewer customer calls asking us on this (saves money)
    4. I want my money to come to me fast – for me 4-5 days is fast enough
    5. I do not have the time and patience to do the dollar/rupee conversion which may keep changing all the time – BUt my rates charged to users cannot.

I hope my post has not added to the list of “extremely confused” people that this blog has created :)

I may be contacted on shachin AT aol dot in

Paysignet appears good but i could not find a number in their website to call(I am really suspicious about companies that do not provide their contact information, address etc upfront). As someone mentioned, there are many instances we need a customer care- events like chargeback, disputes, authorization decline etc. the provider should have a bandwidth to support all these.

  132. shachin shachin

i see this toll free number mentioned on the paysignet site 1800 425 4111.

But as i do not have a BSNL line i cannot vaildate whether this number is valid.

    http://www.paysignet.com/contactus_paysign.asp

  133. Manoj Manoj

Paysignet is a big fraud. Refer to any internet guide. Everybody says that Service provider must mention his physical address on the web site. This comapny has not mentioned physical address not telephone numebrs on thwe web site. The number provided is only Toll free no. By which, we can not judge, where this company has located. I suffered a lot by using there service. Initally, I paid basic amount and then they started the service. As soon as I done a business of Rs.4000, they suddenly stopped my account and tolde me that I will have to open Axis bank account and has to give bunch of document again to them. I done that immediatly. But after that these people spent more than 3 months in processing “So called” application. There is only one contact person “Mr. Mahesh”, other than this person, no body was on cell no. or on toll free no. I think that this is a 1 person comapny. So then finally I switched to CC Avenue, (After loosing around 4 months business) CC avenues people are very prompt and my account started in 48 hours. Now I am using there service for last 3 months without any problems.
    ************
So my request to all those who want to start ebusiness is that dont go for PAYSIGNET. Dont get fooled by wrong promises of paysignet

  134. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

Mr. Manoj, you have voiced his negative opinion so strongly it makes me wary about your own credentials. Especially as you advocate CCAvenue which has received some of the worst reviews in most fora I have come across. Would you mind if I asked you some more details about you. What is your website and it would be great if I could speak with you over the phone. I trust you will take this in the right spirit as I am currently shopping for a suitable payment gateway and was seriously considering Paysignet. You may even email me directly at girishjk at yahoo dot com

Also to all readers, does anyone have any feedback on HDFC payment gateway services?

  135. shachin shachin

I had earlier mentioned that paysignet seems to be the best for my requirements. But once I initiated the process with them i found that their service left much for desire.
    1. Once i sent them the initial details i did not get ANY response for 8 days.
    2. Their toll free number was NEVER answered.
    3. I contacted their Trichy office and i was told to send a mail to mahesh@paysignet. Again got no reply.
    4. Today I finally got a reply saying that my account has been approved and they asked me send the cheque.

Now I wont suggest paysignet for the following reasons
    1. They approved my account without ANY verification. Now i may be a fraud party or any scrupulous dealer. But paysignet didnt feel this was necessary.
    2. Before signing up their response was so slow, I wonder how this will be after paying the money!
    3. The first contact from them was to ask for money. Definitely not a good sign for me.

Now Mr. Manoj has mentioned 2 things
    1. There is no contact number – There are contact numbers infact three of them
    2. No address information – Again three addresses have been given – Trichy, Mumbai and Newyork.

So I have decided NOT to go with Paysignet for reasons as mentioned above.

I also wont go for CCavenue because I received lot of feedback from my other friends using CCAvenue on the following negative aspects
    1. Lot of Chargebacks from customer as they dont recall CCavenue name in their statement. Now as a rule of banking in India – All disputes are 99% of the times given in favor of the customer, you may as well take this as 100%
    2. Payments from CCavenue are delayed many times
    3. The UI and navigation does not instill security in users

CCAvenue rules the roost purely because there is no competition.

Now I seriously crawling the net to get the ‘right’ provider!

I will post my updates once i find the right provider.

please do not choose the payment gateway for the sack of transaction charge and discounts you get …

reliability and service is the main thing you should be looking.

I am new to this forum & would like to share with you my experiences regarding gateways.
I am using eazy2pay payment gateway since last 4 years and found them good. They accept all Visa & Master cards. Charges are resonable and service is good and you get prompt reply from them.

    Hi People,

Pls dont try paysignet at any cost. They are big time frauds. They have eaten up my money and never ever respond to my emails. I have also spoken several times to their Director, but he is no good.

They are big fraud and Im sure I have lost money with them. Dont try to deal with them….

This is with ref. to. comments by shachin says
17-Jan-2008 at 1:33 pm, he mentioned about phone nos. & addressess. But both the things are mentioned on the contract papers send by this company. Try any one of the contact no. given and check out the horrible response you will receive. Also I wrote email to Mr. Girish Keswani, who is asking about my credentials. I am just sharing my views about paysignet and CCAvenue. Now it is almost 4 months, that I am doing net business, without any problems with CCAvenue. The payment is prompt, customer care support is prompt.

    Hi guys

we are planning to sell virtual calling cards online to clients in usa & UK. I have tried to gather as much info i can in last month or so regarding merchant accounts & payment gateways but still i am in utter confusion , have already tried paypal where the acceptance ratio for credit cards was horribly low for us while 2checkout comes with a steeper TDR.

Finally it looks as if we have to go for worldpay as almost all of the indian gateways are lacking in one way or another.

  145. rahul rahul

Any review on worldpay & its services related to offshore merchant accounts (indian in particular) will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Any experience on dealing with the same?

  150. Subhash Subhash

    Hi friends,

I’ve read all the comments here. I’ve been using CC Avenue for the past 05 years and their service has been good in terms of payments and customer care. I’m also using EBS (ebs.in) for the past 20 months and i would highly recomment EBS for the following reasons :

    1) The payment get credited to your axis bank account within 48 hrs time
    2) The customer gets your co. name in their credit card statements
    3) Low Transaction fees

The drawback is that they are currently not accepting indian debit cards and Amex cards. They accepts only VISA,Mastercard,Maestro international debit card and Visa electron international debit card.
Hope my information is useful for those looking for a new payment gateway.

    Hello,

I would be glad if the online trading Guru’s in the thread would be able to help me answer my doubts below

Am an individual planning to start an online store to sell some art jewels.I would be developing my own website for the business.

*How to integrate Paypal to the website ?
Ans:- Its not difficult you can do it yourself or take the help of person who is making the website.

*If my targeted customer are primarily Indian customers who pay by rupees currency, is Paypal a good option?(Am looking at the cheapest payment gateway too)
Ans:- Paypal is good option if you can wait for payments to recieve(upto a week) and also working on high margins (exchange rate margins+ per transaction margins)

    * Does Paypal accept Indian Credit cards ?
Ans:- Yes all international cards issued by indian banks
    * In case of shipping the articles for an international order, how is the shipment done.As am not a registered company/firm,would i get into customs problems ?
Ans:- You need a invoice and better get a IEC Code on your personal name as that will be required.
    * For any internation orders are there any legel implications ?
Ans:- No legal implications if you are sending out everything which is legal and have an IEC Code.
    * How do you charge for the Shipment charges when we donot know which part of world customer is from ?
Ans:- Charges are shown when a buyer selects his country name , any courier company will help you with that, take an account with TNT/DHL etc.
    * How is the shipment usually done (by what mode)?
Ans:- Courier is the preferred and only mode.

  155. Lalitha Lalitha

Abishek thanks for the inputs. It was really helpful. One more information,

If my customers make the payment in Indian Currency rupees, will the amount that is credited by Paypal to my indian bank account/or if its a cheque , would it be recd in USD or indian rupees ?

  156. soni soni

    Dear
sir i want to export books through courier so please tell me
1- i requair iec code or not.and whey it requir

  157. abhishek abhishek

    Lalitha,

You can only accept funds in USD through Paypal (every thing coverts to USD before buyer pays), However you can withdraw funds in Indian Rupees in your Indian Bank account, based on Paypal exchange rate (Not the exchange rate Prevelent at that time) Cheque or transfer it will be in Indian Rupees.

    Soni,

You need an IEC Code for every export/Import which is commercial in nature.

    Hi,

This is great information you have posted, thank you so much.

  159. kaushik kaushik

Yes Indian payment gateway is a big joke…
1.CCAvenue: They have a good support system, they cover all banks and all cards. But they charge a lot( transaction fee). They release your online only @ the weekends..thats what they said to me

One day i got a mail from them(i had asked them on how to apply for there service,my website sells electronic goods)-”As per the evaluation done by our legal bankers, your website http://www.——.com comes under the prohibited list of products/services sites.
According to our company policy we do not provide payment gateway for any online electronic items. Hence, in compliance with our policy we will not be able to offer you our online payment gateway services.”

Well if you check there client list http://www.ccavenue.com/content/clients.jsp
Guess what they have futurebazaar.com and LG electronics as there client. i wonder why this discrimination…i asked them about this, they said i need to ask there legal bankers. when i mailed to there so called legal bankers many times they never replied,i also tried to contact them on the regular email id about this issue..they never reply on this issue..im still waiting….

2.ABCPayments- they charge almost same as ccavenue(7%-5%) You will end up wasting huge money if you are selling electronics goods or costly stuff online…imagine giving away money just like for every transaction that hapens on your website even after you pay for the payment gateway service.

3.Payseal ICICI : this one is by ICICI as you all know.
The good thing about them is that they charge only 2-2.5% as transaction fee.
The sad part about them is that they only give VISA payment service & you will be only able to use there service only if you have a dedicated server for your online store.

4.PayGateIndia: Looks like they have stopped there service…

5.Eazy2Pay: Someone here had posted that this one is by IDBI Bank…which is not true..its by a company called Technonet Technologies Limited.
They only support VISA and MASTERCARD.

6.EBS- This one is by E-BILLING SOLUTIONS PVT LTD ,they have some tie up with Axis bank(UTI) and its not by Axis bank,so dont think that they are by axis bank …i dont see any information on axis banks offical website about ebs.in or they say that they are by axis bank on there website ebs.in.

    7. Paysignet: Someone here, yes Mr Avinash says that hes a paysignet reseller but when i spoke to paysignet people regarding this they said that reseller service is still in the beta version..and they will inform regrading that on there website. i dont know how true is Mr Avinash or how true paysignet people are.
A reseller get Rs 2000 discount on the silver plan and Rs 4000 on there gold plan. http://www.paysignet.com/reseller.asp#PriceingSh

Yes they never reply on the mails, If you call them on there toll free number they will simply tell you to contact there online support team. I wonder then why they need a toll free number.
They havent specified there physical address on there website and when i asked them there address they told me to fill the online form and send it to them. They dint give me there address. I dont know much about there support system but they do have a good pricing slab compared to others & and they support all india cards and some big banks for online banking..rest they say will add up soon. They release they money every weekend..thats what they say

8.2checkout: They support indian currency (INR)
to check there pricing follow this link https://www.2checkout.com/documentation/op_regs_a.html
They only support Visa, master card, amex, discover and JCB for indian region.
The release money on every thursday.
For wire transfer of money it will take 10 days and for direct deposit it will take 15 days..All these costs additional charges.
They started something called payoneer cards(master card) using these cards a merchant can withdraw money with in 2 days and it will cost you around 2.15% for every withdraw of money you make using this card. the card will cost you 10$.
    2checkout charges 5.5% + 0.45$ per transaction.
They only take a one time setup fee of 49$.

9.Worldpay: This is by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
They are very costly..Setup fee is 200 GBP and monthly fee is 30 GBP plus 4.5 % transaction fee plus 0.6 GBP for fraud detection for every transaction.

10.Paypal: They dont accept indian currency(INR).

    11. Moneybooker: They are same as paypal but they support indian currency(INR). They charge 3.5% + EUR 0.29 per transaction. check this link for more information http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=m_shoppingcart

    12. HDFC and Citibank payment gateway: Again they are same as ICICI payseal, you need dedicated server.

The information may not be 100% true (its 100% true according to my knowledge)… but dont consider it 100% true. You accept this information on your own risk. Im just sharing whatever i know.
i Hope this information will help you all, for more information or any doubts you can contact me @ kaushikndm@gmail.com
I hope someone will soon come up with a great payment gateway, may be its on its way…
    Happy shopping!!!

Is anybody interested to share a payment gateway? let us form a consortium and negotiate with service providers…we can collectively bargain rates…and invest equally… we will integrate all credit card & net banking gateways.
logos & URLs of all members of the consortium will be displayed on the payment page and the credit card user will be educated about the name appearing on his credit card statement…
The advantages of forming this consortium are a)low investment
b)lowest rates in the market c)many payment options and d)when new members are accepted they’ll be charged membership fees
, so thats additional income for founder members….people interested to become members of this consortium…lets all get in touch.

    cant disclouse,

Not sure what you’re trying to say. Are you saying that ccavenue offers good options for resellers or that one shouldn’t go with them because they levy maintenance charges and commission?

    Please be clear.

  174. hemant hemant

cc avenue is offering discount to its vendors (smart customer becomes vendor first so i am)
now i have not yet purchased any services from them

but recently i got mail from them mentioning discount in setup fee which was earlier 7500 now reduced to 2500 rs

but they charge heavy commission like 7% and annual maintenance charge like 1200 to 2400 rs a year so the the seller has to have high margins which will make the things costlier for customer and in result unless and until you have uniq product or service you will fail

and the ccavenu will keep showing good financial returns

I have tied up with HDFC which seems promising although I still have to experience it real time. Until now, the tech support has been prompt and very helpful. Also I am looking at tying up with DirecPay, a Times of India venture under Times of Money for EFT and Debit Cards. The set up fees, AMC and TDR are reasonable and being TOI, they cant afford to mess around as they do have their reputation at stake.

Has anyone of you heard that the minimum amount 2CO can wire in INR to your bank is $2500 or Rs.100000? They are saying its because of some banking regulations in India. Is this really true or they are just doing this to me?

  186. Raj Raj

    Hi There

This is really very good information, I am in Canada, I also want to setup Indian Rupee Payment Gateway. since I read this article, I am more clear about the Indian Payment Gateways. Now a days I am using PayPal which is really easy to setup. I hope very soon Google Checkout will be ready in India.

    Thanks again.

Is anybody using globill.net for payments in INR? Is this company credible? Your comments are greatly appreciated.

  188. Ashman Ashman

As many others said on this blog, please stay away from paysignet. I applied for their gateway in Jan 08 and not yet got anything from them. My application money is wasted. They are saying my application is pending with Axis Bank for approval. They are absolutely useless.

  189. Sandeep Srivastav Sandeep Srivastav

EBS is in real pain. They have just been fined by mastercard for processing drug transactions of a delhi merchant through axis bank. I believe the fine is a huge one of thousands of us dollars. I hope they dont just shut down. A mastercard official gave me this news yesterday at a banking event at Taj Lands end, yesterday. I hope for ebs’s sake this news is not true.

  190. Deepak Deepak

Is ccavenue now processing transactions at 3.75%? I see on their website that they have a new rate plan.

  191. Nabendu Mitra Nabendu Mitra

EBS?? Drugs?? I hope the news is not true. I have just applied with them for downloadable software site.

  192. amod amod

Has anyone tried opening an offshore merchant account?

I tried to do so, but they charge so much fees in $ that its not feasible for us.

Also, they require you to write it down that you will do business worth so much $ or else they wont let you open.

what do we do??? Both ways we are scre###. I guess just sit tight and wait for google or some other loogle company to come along…

    hi,
please tell me about timesofmonney payment gateway.

  194. Girish Keswani Girish Keswani

    Hi Sonia,
The Times of Money payment gateway only processes Debit Cards and EFT. They havent yet started processing Credit Cards yet. It does help as being a part of Times of India they have a professional attitude as against the rest of the PG service providers. I haven’t yet been able to experience their services as there have been certain delays in site development from our end, but this I can say that they do charge reasonable. You can avail more information on their site. If you need the contact details of an exec with DirecPay, do let me know girish(at)yahoodotcom and I shall provide it to you.

  195. Ashish Ashish

Times of Money – Direc Pay charging Rs 30000 as setup fees and 5% on every debit card payment + 7500 AMC. These are too high… and will not reduce until good competition comes in the market.

  196. Pradeep Pradeep

    Has anyone tried paymate.co.in?
    any comments? thanks.

cc avenue has not changed any rates its the same old rates and 3.75% is for the privileged membership which will cost u around 40,000 r.s & 3600 rs annual charges

    Hi All,

I am Asst Manager-Marketing at CCAvenue. The reason IT companies, Domain name registrars, web hosting service providers find it difficult to get their applications of merchant accounts approved is because a lot of frauds have been happening at these kind of sites. There are cases of cardholder frauds and in some cases of merchant frauds. Some web development companies like http://www.technolozy.com (Kaushik Rajani / Deepak Mehta of Delhi) have cheated banks and our company of crores of rupees by perprating a systematic fraud with a help of their friends from India, estonia etc.. It is just not them alone but a lot of other IT providers from the industry has also done the same over the years. Therefore card companies have slotted IT services as a high risk category and are generally slotted along with other high risk category merchants like online gambling / pornography etc.. Since IT companies products / services are delivered online, hence it makes it easy for the fraudster who has access to stolen card numbers to perpetrate fraud on IT companies. In business, nobody wants to throw away oppurtunies of processing more and nore transactions of merchants but nobody wants to take on high risk merchants as it damages their reputation as well are fined heavely by card companies for excessive chargebacks. We, at CCAvenue, however do not carry that view and look at every application with a clear honest view. Today if you see, we have more eight hundred IT companies in India,Singapore and China whom we provide our payment processing services too. There are nearly four hundred web development companies situated in 78 cities and towns accross india, who resells our services. For small Individual or sole propriter s who start with selling webhosting / domain name packages, we do start them out with netbanking / cash cards/ debit cards and after some time, when they have won the trust of our Risk team, we do allow the credit card options. Today, we power over 90% of India’s websites.

Also, we do provide motto facilities (i.e. card numbers taken on the merchant site instead of redirecting to CCAvenue) provided the merchants systems are PCI Compliant, and they have their dedicated servers with a 256 Verisign Global server Id (This is mandated by Credit card companies).

Today we offer 6 credit cards, 8 Debit cards, 26 Net banking options, ITZ cash card, Paymate mobile payments processing and we are constantly adding new payment options. We give free risk management services which are the best in South Asia which saves crores of rupees of our merchants. Our merchants dont have to pay any chargeback fees ( $ 10 for every chargeback transaction with all foreign gateways like paypal etc). Our merchants dont need to have dedicated servers or invest in verisign cert ( about usd 500 annually) or be PCI compliant ( about USD 11,000 per year) and dont have to pay any money for money transfers or for our 24 by 7 merchant support. Our best plan starts at a 3.75% charges with no flat fee (for eg 0.30 cents per transaction that paypal charges i.e. INR 13/- per transaction, over and above their percentage charges). We agree that there is a steep one time setup fee for the credit card merchant account abd the ccavenue account but that money is required by us to comply with the card company rules, tie-up with newer banks and give fanatical support to our merchants and their customers. We can assure all of you that no payment gateway in the world delivers that many payment options and give value as we do. We are proud that we help over 90% of India’s merchants reach their online business goals by providing our tension free payment processing services.

Please dont treat the above as a marketing pitch, but its a true statement of what (125+ Avenuities) are trying to achieve here at Avenues.

    Warm Regards,

    Susan (contact@ccavenue.com)

  199. Deep Deep

    Hi Susan,
Thanks for the clarifications.. people badly needed it..

About the problem, I agree there have been fraud people around… but those guys are in every field.. but the problem is, to stop the fraud, we cannot cut the rules but we should work on finding the solution.

Companies like Paypal must be facing huge problems like this on daily basis but they do not stop assigning new accounts, coz they know around 10% of the people will be frauds so they find ways to tackle 10% than blocking 90% of the business :)

I hope you got my points.

    Regards,
    Deep

Hey KNB, have u investigated ccavenue.com? ebs is nothing compared to them.

I have a travel website http://www.arounddelhi.com, I spent about 6 months with ICICI payseal, they took all sorts of documents about our private limited company, asked for Rs 20,000/- set up fee, a deposit of minimum 1lac in the a/c which you can not withdraw and 2.5% transaction fee. After all this and taking the set up fee chq(though not encashing it) they tell me after umpteenth enquiry that my application has been rejected because we have a home office. I fail to understand the logic about it. If somebody wants to do some online why do they need a commercial office. Mind boggling…

  206. Manjusha Manjusha

    Hi Deep,

Thanks a bunch for the informative post!! I’m planning to build a small ecommerce website. The products would be delivered to Indian addresses, but orders can be made from anywhere in the world. The amount would ultimately be credited to the seller’s bank account in India. I’m considering Paypal’s “website payments standard” as it is the cheapest option that I have.

I have few questions regarding Paypal payments. Could you please clarify?

Suppose a buyer from India purchases a product on my site costing 100$/5000Rs. Paypal would levy a transaction fee of 3.4% + 0.30$ which amounts to 3.70$. So, 100-3.70=96.30$ would be credited into my Paypal account at the end of the transaction. Is that all or are there any more deductions?

When I withdraw the amount, I understand that I’ll get the INR equivalent of 96.30$ on that particular day. When I transfer the amount into an Indian bank account, will there be any further service charge/education cess, etc.? If yes, how much (in %) would the additional deductions sum up to?

Finally, how much would the buyer’s credit card be charged in total? Will it just be 100$ or is there a forex factor involved as his Indian credit card is being charged in USD? Can you tell me, in %, how much is this charge?

    Thanks in advance!

  207. Tanay Tanay

    Hi Deep,

well, I think you actually don’t know the difference between Payment Gateway and Payment Processor. ‘Paypal’ and ’2CO’ are third party payment processor and CCAvenue and other are payment gateways.

Payment Gatways ‘DO NOT’ Process any Credit cards they are just gatways which sends credit card details securely to direct your merchant account (i.e. your merchant bank account).

LOL just google more information about ‘Payment Gateway’ and ‘Payment Processor’.

Lots of people don’t know the difference between payment gateway and processor.

    regards,

    Tanay.

  208. Deep Deep

So, Tanay, tell me, what difference is it going to make in regards to this topic?

Anyone going to lose lakhs of rupees if I have listed 2CO and Paypal here?

And what difference will “Payment Processor” and “Payment Gateway” will make to the end user?

Please nourish us with your great knowledge.

  209. Tanay Tanay

    Hi Deep,

Well mate, I didn’t write that someone will lose lakhs of rupees if you listed 2CO and Paypal. I just want to tell you and other frenz that payment gateway and payment processors are different.

A payment gateway facilitates the transfer of information between a payment portal (such as a website or IVR service) and the Front End Processor or acquiring bank.

When a customer orders a product from a payment gateway enabled merchant, the payment gateway performs a variety of tasks to process the transaction:

    * A customer places order on website by pressing the ‘Submit Order’ or equivalent button, or perhaps enters their card details using an automatic phone answering service.
    * If the order is via a website, the customer’s web browser encrypts the information to be sent between the browser and the merchant’s webserver. This is done via SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption.
    * The merchant then forwards the transaction details to their payment gateway. This is another SSL encrypted connection to the payment server hosted by the payment gateway.
    * The payment gateway forwards the transaction information to the processor used by the merchant’s acquiring bank.
    * The processor forwards the transaction information to the card association (i.e., Visa/MasterCard)
    * If an American Express or Discover Card was used, then the processor acts as the acquiring bank and directly provides a response of approved or declined to the payment gateway.
    * The card association routes the transaction to the correct card issuing bank.
    * The credit card issuing bank receives the authorization request and sends a response back to the processor (via the same process as the request for authorization) with a response code. In addition to determining the fate of the payment, (i.e. approved or declined) the response code is used to define the reason why the transaction failed (such as insufficient funds, or bank link not available)
    * The processor forwards the response to the payment gateway.
    * The payment gateway receives the response, and forwards it on to the website (or whatever interface was used to process the payment) where it is interpreted and a relevant response then relayed back to the cardholder and the merchant.
    * The entire process typically takes 2-3 seconds
    * The merchant must then ship the product prior to being allowed to request to settle the transaction.
    * The merchant submits all their approved authorizations, in a “batch”, to their acquiring bank for settlement.
    * The acquiring bank deposits the total of the approved funds in to the merchant’s nominated account. This could be an account with the acquiring bank if the merchant does their banking with the same bank, or an account with another bank.
    * The entire process from authorization to settlement to funding typically takes 3 days.

Many payment gateways also provide tools to automatically screen orders for fraud and calculate tax in real time prior to the authorization request being sent to the processor. Tools to detect fraud include geolocation, velocity pattern analysis, delivery address verification, computer finger printing technology, identity morphing detection, and basic AVS checks.

But paypal and 2CO are payment processors which process Credit Cards payments for you and then you can withdraw your funds to your bank.

    Just see following lines

    A] Payment Gateway :

    1. Customer —> Payment Gateway —> Transfering Credit Card Details —> Merchant Account

then bank decides weather credit card details are valid or not then sends report to securely to your payment gateway and then again payment gateway shows results to your customer. This process takes less than 5 to 10 seconds to complete.

    B] Payment Processor :

    1. Customer —> Paypal (for example) —> Processes customer CC —> Paypal Transfer funds to your PP account —> Customer gets ordered product.

After this you withdraw your paypal funds to your bank acount.

Now mate, you have to decide which one you will choose for your website.

There is difference between transaction fees as you stated in first post.

    regards,

    Tanay.

  210. Deep Deep

Tanay, technically there might be difference but from the customer’s point of view, there is no difference logically, in terms of transaction fees, there cannot be any comparision.. as anyone of them can be higher or lower..

Many payment gateways listed above charge interest rates like 2.75% or 3.25% where as payment processors like Paypal charge 3.9%.

The point of this post is to make people aware about the options not about technicalities of payment gateway and payment processor. Hence giving details about difference won’t do anything good for the post.

    Cheers,
    Deep

  211. Tanay Tanay

    Hey deep,

I have already told you that I just want to tell you and other that payment gateway and processors are different.

If you choose payment gateway then all funds will go directly to your bank account that paypal can’t do this. But the fees and monthly charge of such gateways are high but paypal won’t charge you any monthly or annual or any one time set up fees except transaction fees. You can accept credit cards directly on your website which looks professional but in paypal you can’t do this.

    Just big difference is ‘TIME’.

I don’t want to tell you that payment gateway is better than processors or processors are better than gateways in any way.

You have to decide which method will complete your website or customer requirement and that’s all.

Some people or companies choose gateways becoz they save lots of time and some use payment processors like paypal to save money or transaction fees but they can’t save time.

The reason why did I post here just tell other people that first always know your website requirements and then think which method (i.e. gateways and processors) will fulfill all that e-commerce website requirements.

And one more thing that I don’t want to tell other frenz that you are wrong. Your review is awesome but you also have to tell other people that there is difference between gateway and processors. This will also help people to choose right method for them.

Well, keep up the good work.

    regards,

    Tanay.

Hey Deep, please give Tanay his candy, and ask him to stop posting stuff which, as you rightly mentioned, doesn’t matter to the end user!

    Hi All,
I have been using DirecPay.com, the PG from the IndiaTimes group and I suspect all my customers are getting emails from the Indiatimes site with their gifting and other offers. This is not fair. We have received Indiatimes shopping emails, their TimesJobs email offers and their simplymarry offers on my test email ids I had used when i was integrating their PG. I am investigating and will let all of you know, when I am 100% sure.

Awesome Avinash.. if that’s the true then, all these current payment gateway guys are gonna have tough time for sure :)

    Hi deep,

I guess you need to light up your brain deep, Indian paymentgateway industry is only supporting e-merchants in india and are consistently improving their standards of services, it is very easy to raise fingers but very difficult to prove and i guess to my understanding payment card industry have proved their credentials so let us all support the industry rather then creating unecessay rumors. And also i was going through all the replies posted i realised all the indian company providing payment gateway services have some or the other problems so deep the e-payment guru do suggest me a payment gateway or else i will give a gud idea for free start up your own payment gateway and help these people who take the pain in writing these complaints to mr.deep the teacher.

  219. Deep Deep

So Abhijeet, did it pinch too hard? haha.. I guess, you might be working in one of those bashed payment gateways.. haha

    ——————–

I guess you need to light up your brain deep, Indian paymentgateway industry is only supporting e-merchants in india and are consistently improving their standards of services.

    ——————–

I guess, it’s time for you to light up your eyeballs and find me the statement where I have mentioned that Indian Payment Gateways support Non indian merchants?

They might be improving their standards but along with that, they are improving their rates too… Rs. 40,000 as non refundable deposit, what for? What’s so special about them? haha

Let Google Checkout arrive and then see the effect on these guys.. basically this period is like the starting period of mobile phones, people used to pay Rs. 16 per minute for the phone calls, once more people started entering the market, the rates reduced drastically….

    ——————–

it is very easy to raise fingers but very difficult to prove and i guess to my understanding payment card industry have proved their credentials so let us all support the industry rather then creating unecessay rumors.

    ——————–

No point in spreading rumors, whatever is mentioned in my post is backed by the proof. I cannot guarantee anything about the comments which are made, but if you feel those are rumors, prove it that they are baseless, I will take off those comments.

    ——————–

Haha, now I got to know where the smoke is coming out from.. LOL

Problems are going to be with any payment gateway but the best part is, when the payment gateway understand what problem people are facing and they fix the issues, rather than getting one of their employees post a reply with baseless comments.. hahah

    Cheers,
    Deep

  220. Abhisek Abhisek

    Hi…
First of all, thanks deep for starting this discussion.. n thnx all for posting your reviews…

I am a matrimony service provider… I am currently using ICICI and CCAvenue Gateways.
They have their own Pros and Cons.
ICICI – They only accept VISA. They do have an option for MasterCard. When i contacted the guys, initially they created hell lot off problems. Finally they agreed to provide MasterCard Access. But additional Rs. 10000/- for that. phew….

And yes… their Transaction Success Rate is very low… I get complaints daily that the page stopped responding after they submitted the Credit Card Details…

CCAvenue – Initially they were gud…
n then they started imposing restrictions….
Initially, they blocked Credit Card Transactions for verification Purposes. And mark them as High Fraud Alert. – Fine. You cancel the transaction or get the documents from the Client. If you cancel, no TDR Charges for tht transaction.

Now they have added the same restriction on Net Banking Part as well…. What the hell… And moreover… if they mark it as High Fraud Alert, and i want to cancel it, they still charge the TDR Charges on that transaction… So i loose money this way or that in Net Banking.

Now i am planning to Add DirecPay to my site as well… The initial review is decent. They have gud processing system but being a new company, their Reporting system is not at all gud… so u need to have ur own reporting part as well..

Charges are also very reasonable… 10K as initial deposit and 3.5% TDR…. Far better than Others currently in the Market…
But i don’t have read/heard many reviews about DirecPay, So i am deferring the plan to integrate it as of now. Will wait for moew reviews and then decide.

    Thanks

    Abhisek

Hi Deep, It was quite interesting to learn about payment gateways etc over here. Hey.. we are planning to have a payment gateway integration and are out looking for the right provider. From the integration point of view can you or others tell me what is the effort involved. How simple is it to integrate with CCAvenue or Citibank payment gateways? Is it a very technical task?

    Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for hosting this discussion and consolidating a variety of opinions. I was debating between CCAve(for reliability), TimesofMoney(for lowest setup costs) and EBS(reliability and low rates) and have almost finalized on using EBS for our startup’ website which sells automotive accessories. They had courteous sales people (surprisingly sales people of some companies think they are sitting on gold mines). Here are rates of CCAve, ABCPayments, Paysignnet, TimesofMoney and EBS; some of the gateways I had considered seriously.

    Product |Rate |servc.tax|netRate|SetupFee|Extra|AnnualMaintnce.

    CC Avenue Eco 7.00% 10.30% 7.72% 7,500 0 1,200

    Paysignet Mid 4.000% 10.30% 4.41% 10,000 10,000 2,500
    Paysignet Platm 2.750% 10.30% 3.03% 25,000 25,000 5,000
    TimesOfMoney Eco6.000% 10.30% 6.62% 7,500 0 2,400
    TimesOfMoney Mid4.500% 10.30% 4.96% 15,000 0 2,400
    TimesOfMoneyPlat3.500% 10.30% 3.86% 25,000 0 2,400
    EBS starter 6.000% 10.30% 6.62% 6,000 0 2,400
    EBS regular 5.000% 10.30% 5.52% 12,000 0 2,400
    EBS mid 4.000% 10.30% 4.41% 18,000 0 2,400
    EBS Gold 3.750% 10.30% 4.14% 24,000 0 2,400
    EBS Platinnum 3.250% 10.30% 3.58% 30,000 0 2,400

There have been enough warning flags about Paysignnet so that is out of the selection. I am going ahead with EBS after considering their low rates, good customer sales service, hopefully good brand reliability, ability to link with any merchant bank account and merchant name on bill feature. They have a demo installer kit at http://www.ebssupport.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view but am not sure how easily integrable it is; they claim it takes 1 hour to integrate?? I wish they had some easy copy paste HTML code like paypal buttons which I can use. I am yet to find out about the actual service quality, time of document processing and new/unknown issues.

I am going to go ahead with this soon so please let me know if I need to be warned about EBS. Will keep you updated. Thanks

    Milind

    Mr.Milind,

This is Susan Pereira Assistance Manager CCAvenue. I read your suggestion on deep ka blog. Just would like to bring to your notice that CCAvenue is the pioneer in payment gateway services in India and we stand powering 90% of the Indian merchant. Today we offer 5 Major Internation credit cards which include Amex and JCB, 12 Debit cards, 24 Net banking options, Cash cards, Mobile payments option and we are constantly adding new payment options. We have recently launched our IVRS Payment Gateway i.e. CCAvenue PhonePay, which enables merchants to accept payments through a simple phone call.

We offer free risk management services which are the best in South Asia which helps in saving crores of rupees of merchants. For any e-commerce company, the matter of concern is how safe is the transaction? But to put it in other word how to be safe from fraud transaction? Here is the answer for the question. We at CCAvenue take lot of efforts to stop the fraud transaction. For this we have a dedicated risk management team which scrutinizes each and every transaction that is been conducted on merchant’s website through CCAvenue .We also provide Shopping Cart to Merchants who don’t have their shopping cart and you will be surprised to know that we provide this feature for free. We also have 24×6 Tech support incase a Merchant/Customers have any query, which can be resolved through online-chat or by phone. Please make a note of the above listed features are just a few among the various host of features which come along with CCAvenue.

However, please have a look at the overall benefits which can be availed through CCAvenue as compared to EBS. By paying marginally extra you will get better services with high security standards. Kindly compare all the above mentioned factors before taking your vital business decision. Moreover I request you to compare apples to apples rather then apples to lemons.

    Regards,

    Susan Pereira

    Hello Dear Deep,
Thanks for this blog and all posts.

    I have some questions.
    1. I am gonna start a website where I will be selling cloths. I think EBS will be the better option for me. But they don’t accept SBI debit card. But I think most of the customers will be happy to pay with their sbi cards. So How should I go about it.

    2. Do SBI have their own payment gateway. If yes then can you give me the all information about it.Cost on it and how can I get it.

    3. How much time it takes to get money from ccaveue and ebs both.

I need a payment gateway for my website.?

    Hi everyone,

I added PayPal IPN contribution for an oscommerce store. This is for an Indian store so the users/clients will be shown prices in INR (Rupee). Please help me as I did not find any option to set it to INR or converting it from INR to US$ just for payment. I’m really stuck at it. Please help.

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Rakesh,

Can you clarify? What do you mean “Please no ccavenue because they are too late in payments”. Frankly CCAvenue is easily the best PG around. If you are expecting huge payouts, CCAvenue does have T +2 settlements. I have absolutely no issues for last four years..

    Hi,

I think a blog is an independant and an impartial forum where people have a right to express their opinions. Either EBS, Direcpay, ICICI or any provider, each has its own views and we respect their views and opinions. I dont think any comment should be taken so personally to market the product. It should be taken in the true spirit for improvisation. We all need to understand the market scenario and the banking/card association regulations which restricts the service provider to some extent

Also for information EBS does process SBI debit cards with 18 other payment options with another 8 being added very soon. Though we do not categorize ourselves as apples or lemons, we focus in giving the best of services and catering to client needs helping them to transact smoothly & safely.

Please feel free for any information or clarification further at sales@ebs.in

    Hi all,
very interesting and informative blog for all entrepreneurs who intend to start their E-Commerce website.
I have been sitting on an e-commerce website and been trying to integrate a payment gateway and I land up in the same situation as Deep has landed up in and for the same reason he has started this blog.
Indian payment gateways are the biggest joke in this world, and I agree with him completely..

CC Avenue tops it all as rightly said by Deep, the customer service assistants are very rude and nips off the entrepreneurs interests at the budding stage itself dismissing it with a ‘You are all below our standards’ kind dealing.

And another thing that I would like to clarify with all payment gateway servuce providers in India, is that what is the requirement for charging this hefty TDR and super hefty set up fees like CC avenue. Internet shopping’s main purpose is to reach products and services to users at cheaper rates as there are no fixed costs involved in running it, like that of a retail store. CC avenue and the kinds by charging the hefty TDR is not helping the purpose at all as the TDR also gets added on to the end price that the hapless indian ecommerce users pay to acquire the product.

And moreover whats the point if they intend to take on board only companies which have a strong history of operations and bank account balances since most innovative ECommerce websites are normally floated by the founders themselves who struggles as it is to register a company even through it could be sole proprietor ships.

The payment gateways in India can be rightfully said to be nipping off the innovative ideas of Indian entrepreneurs rite at the budding stage with their rejection of proposals of entrepreneurs and with their super expensive set up charges and TDR charges..

    Jai ho..

    Hi Jiby,

Saw your post and it looks like our Acquiring bank and our Risk Management team rejected your application. Anyways, please do email us again your website application details at contact@ccavenue.com and we will try to our level best to get it approved. I am copy/pasting an earlier post that might answer some of your complaints:-

    Hi Jiby,

One more clarification rather information…regarding Deep, CCAvenue is powering his website http://www.web1.in and he has all the possible credit cards / debit cards / cash card / netbanking / mobile payment options available on his website via CCAvenue. His is a sole proprietor business and is into IT business. Infact we are also powering the websites of all his major clients like Monginis etc. If someone proves that they are genuine person doing authentic genuine business, we have no problem in processing their transactions. We have to be really careful as Internet is a world without boundaries and there are lot of fraudsters, swindlers, fly by night operators who can really strike and damage our company and cause us a great financial loss. When we ask for some credentials from our merchants, it is just identify genuine new entrepreneurs and keep the fraudsters at at bay. We never look at a prospective merchants bank balance or how much properties he has. We look at the genuineness of the documents supplied and his business model. We at CCAvenue have taken great risk by processing transactions of thousands of small entrepreneurs, when the Indian banks were not ready to take them on. Therefore today more than 90% of india’s merchants choose us to process their payments….right from a small time mushroom seller called Lakshman Bhakta in a village called Manjeshwar in Kerela to the BIGGEST websites like MakeMyTrip etc, all have reposed their trust in CCAvenue.

In any case, do email me your website application, so that we can see what best can be done.

    Best Regards,

    Susan

Swati, try this to see if your email is being abused…

    1. Create an account with gmail (eg: testspam@gmail.com)
    2. while giving this account to anyone, use testspam+companyname@gmail.com
The cool thing about gmail is that anything after the “+” symbol is automatically ignored, and the email will actually land up in the original email account, in this case testspam@gmail.com
    3. now, if you start getting spam to this account with a To: address of testspam+companyname@gmail.com, you know who is spamming you. Also, this makes it super easy to create a spam filter
    4. I’ve used this technique many times with great success, when I dont know if a particular company can be trusted.

Please do confirm if indiatimes/direcpay is indeed spamming you/your customers so that others can avoid dealing with them. I know for sure they spam their email accounts a lot, so I would’nt be surprised if they are spamming other customers as well. My decision on partnering with them will largely be influenced by your response, so kindly to respond

    Hello All,

A very informative piece of article I must say. Great read for people who are thinking about integrating a PG on their websites. Speaking of which I am on the lookout for a decently priced PG myself, the first such PG i approached was HDFC Bank as my other loyalties lie with them and this is what they told me:

    AMC – Rs 10,000
    1 Time Setup Fee – Rs 10,000
Charge per Transaction – 2.25 Percent.

The person i spoke to said the transaction charges and the AMC charges will be reconsidered after 6 months depending on the turnover. After reading thru this blog and considering other options, I found this to be the best.

What do y’all have to say? Is there a better service out there? Should I keep looking or this is good enough to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance – Prashant.

When I click ‘Buy Now’ button of PayPal for accepting credit card payment, it takes me to a page where it asks for paying through PayPal account and at the bottom there is a small link for paying through credit card. Can I directly take customers to Credit Card payment page after clicking ‘Buy Now’ button. If yes, can someone help as how? And if no, it becomes very confusing for indian customers.

  245. p p

Kumar, the answer is Yes and No

Yes because, paypal has what they call “website payments pro” that allow you to do the complete transactions on your own website without going to paypal web site. you will need an SSL certificate on your web site to use this feature.

No because, this os available only in the US.

    Hi Guy,

this is a very informative post and comments.

I am considering using paypal for my maiden online venture.

Is there a problem with paypal accepting indian credit cards after the RBI guidelines on August 1 requiring Indian card-holders to register their cards with their banks before using them online????

I would really appreciate an answer to this.

    Thank you

    Abhishek

  247. amod oke amod oke

    Hi Abhishek,

I do not think that the RBI regulation will bring any problem with Paypal.

Because for all those banks that do not participate in the VBV or MSC protocol, it does not make a difference which card you are using, unless of course the payment gateway itself has some rules regarding international cards..

The RBI regulation will make a difference only when the payment gateway is provided by an INDIAN BANK, that is, only when the TRANSACTING BANK is an Indian bank.

And for all those people who think that our Indian cards can no longer be used on international sites, thats just BS, cause i made a few purchases on Amazon, Puritans Pride, Zzounds and some other sites AFTER the RBI regulation from August 01, 2009.

By the way, has anyone found out about futurebazaar.com’s payment gateway?

    Hi Rahul,

Nothing personal, but there are two BIG barriers before you can start a “payment gateway”.

    1) You need a filthy rich financer willing to spare a few lakhs for your project.
    And
    2) Generally ‘rich’ people are very cautious and biased while sponsoring project related to the web or payments on the web.

If you can solve these 2 problems, there is a 3rd one! You need a team that is experienced in network security, pci compliance, you need to immediately start paying them fat salaries, and above all, you need good rapport and standing with the credit card authorities, namely visa/mcard/amex, etc.

If you can work around these problems, and are willing to work for more than 3-5 years to just break-even, only should you seriously think of this venture…

Nice info there. Indian gateways are too costly and dont provide good support also. Paypal is the best. Just waiting for Google Checkout, it will give them a tough competition.

  260. Nilesh Nilesh

Wow. This was a very useful article and even more useful discussion. Kudos, everyone!

However, I did not see any talk about recurring billing. We plan to sell online subscriptions to apps and communities and it seems none of the indian gateways provide a solution for this.

Does Paypal (or any other PG) support billing through API? In that case, we could collect the credit card details on our website and manage all the subscription, upgrade and expiry ourselves. Is this possible?

I don’t think Paypal Website Payments Pro is offered in India.

I’ll really appreciate any help or pointers on this.

    cheers

I don’t think any Indian payment gateway currently offers subscription based processing.

    Hi ,

    Please advise!
Is authorize.net accepting indian merchat accounts!

Secondly ccavenue is taking very heavy 7% cut out rate for economy account.
Is there a better service provider with less rates and better services.

  263. Amod Oke Amod Oke

    Hi cma,

Let me make things clear to you.
“Authorize.net” will accept any “merchant” from anywhere in the world.
BUT, no Indian bank will offer you a full scale merchant account for use with such gateways.
So simple speaking, NO, authorize.net will not WORK for us Indian merchants.

The best alternative to ccavenue is ebs.in, namely e-billing solutions, they are becoming very popular these days and they let you accept Visa and Mastercard + Net Banking.

Their rates vary as per the initial deposit, but the lowest they can offer you is 3.25% cut out rate.

More alternatives are the newly launched timesformoney.com (but their interface is very very amateur), hdfc payment gateway, icici payseal gateway.

    Hi Deep,

Thanks for the very informative post.. I use CC Avenue of one of my sites, but am not that impressed by their services (& especially the charges…)

Just wanted to ask you if a lot of people in India use Paypal? I guess using Paypal immediately strikes out the people who pay via Netbanking etc.., but do you know, if a lot of people still use paypal?

Transecute is shutting down the shop- Not sure they are going to repay the deposits. I see a good leagal battle with merchants and Transecute.
–this is the message from Transecute –
    Dear Merchant,

The purpose of this email is to inform you that we are officially discontinuing the payment gateway services of Transecute by February 28th, 2010. Recent changes in guidelines for third-party payment processors have compelled us to take this decision. This mail contains important information about the impact of this closure upon your Transecute merchant account.

    1. The payment gateway services of Transecute will officially be stopped for your account on February 28th, 2010.
    2. Post this date, your customers will not be able to transact on your website or through other means using your merchant account. To continue receiving online payments, you will need to integrate the services of another provider.
    3. The balance as on February 28th, 2010 will be remitted on August 31st, 2010.
    4. You need to send us a letter on your company letterhead where you agree to clear any negative balance in your account which may arise as a result of a subsequent Retrieval Request/Charge back/Refund of transactions done through your account.

We’re thankful for your continued patronage through the years, and wish you all the best for the future. Our support team is at your service for any doubts or questions you may have.

    Warm regards,
    Transecute Team

Lately payapl has been acting up, its stopping all payments to india saying no personal payments are allowed but we have a business account and take payment based on service and even that seems to be stopped. i was researching today about 2CO and seems like they process payments in INR as well which will make our clients more comfortable making the payment. Deep, how has your experience been with 2CO .. any complaints so far except the delayed payment to Indian bank accounts? Did you experience any difficulty in the past few days similar to paypal issue?

  277. Deep Deep

Prashant – I had used 2CO long time back.. at that time, it was okay, nothing great.. I stopped using it long time back..

  278. Hrishikesh Hrishikesh

    @ Prashant,

The Paypal mess up has just screwed up big time.. I dunno how many are aware off…but CCAvenue does offer payment processing in dollars….you could check with them…

PayPal Halts Personal Payment Transactions From And To India
PayPal isn’t working properly in India. eBay’s electronic payment juggernaut appears to be blocking personal transactions to or from accounts of India-based users. It is reversing personal transactions; transactions involving businesses are still allowed.

A reader checked in with us yesterday to let us know PayPal notified him that the company had stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India (full e-mail can be found below).

This does not appear to be an isolated incident: see here, here and here for more reports, although we gather commercial payment transactions are unaffected at this point.

This is the standard notification e-mail people are receiving in their inbox:

    Hello XXXX,

Your payment of xx has been sent back to the sender of the payment.

We reversed this payment because we have stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may contact the buyer and have him or her resend the payment as follows: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select “Goods,” and (c) provide a shipping address.

If this payment was a personal payment such as a gift, then we have requested that the sender find another payment method until we restore personal payments to and from India.

We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.

    Thank you,
    PayPal

Asked for more information, Binary Turf received a meatier but equally vague response from the customer service department:

    Dear ,

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.

I understand that you want to know why the payment you received for $ USD from is reversed. This payment was sent as Personal. We have stopped allowing Personal Payments to be sent to and from India. We are aware of this issue and I sincerely regret the inconvenience it has caused you. We are trying to resolve this as soon as possible. Below are the details:

Personal Payment – Send Money for India Accounts

    · India customers are no longer able to see the option to send a Personal payment on the Send Money page · They can continue to use other payment options, such as eBay checkout.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may contact the buyer and have him or her resend the payment as follows: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select ‘Goods’, and (c) provide a shipping address.

If this payment was a personal payment, such as a gift to a friend or family member, then we request that you find another payment method until we restore personal payments to and from India.

Although India customers are unable to send Personal payments, they are still receiving Personal payments from Non India customers.

    · In order to stop ALL Personal payments TO and FROM India accounts, we have started reversing Personal payments sent by Non India customers starting today. (the only exception will be in cases where the buyer has included a shipping address – we don’t want to delay any shipment of goods) · Emails will be sent to both sender and recipient to let them know why the money was returned and what options they have to proceed forward. (see attached for examples)

    · We are also in the process of implementing a change on the website to automatically stop the payment from processing, rather than waiting to reverse the payment. We will send you additional updates as soon as we have more details.

The Personal payment option on the International Send Money page has been updated and India has been removed from the ‘select a country’ drop down list.

    · If the payment was for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then the buyer may resend the payment to the seller by following these steps on the PayPal website: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select ‘Goods’, and (c) provide a shipping address.

I’ll be glad to hear from you if you need clarification, please email us again and we will try our best to give you immediate answers. Thank you for choosing PayPal for your online payment needs. We appreciate your business.

The wording seems to suggest that this is a temporary decision, but it’s still unclear why the company decided to take such drastic measures with no prior warning on policy changes whatsoever, and why this appears to be occurring in India only.

We’ve contacted PayPal and will update when and if we hear back.

Update: Anuj Nayar, Director, Global Communications at PayPal tells us:

I can confirm that personal payments to and from India have been suspended while we address some questions from our business partners. You can still make commercial payments. We’re trying to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Guess we’ll have to wait until the issue is addressed.

    Transecute Out!
    ABCPayments Out!!
    PayPal out!!!

Gosh, whats happening. Guess we, in India are left only with CCAvenue, EBS and the bank gateways. ccAvenue is OK ….rest others are all messed up. We need a world class PG.

  281. Prashant Prashant

We already have CCAvenue for our netbanking payments but wanted a gateway for CC transactions, i guess now we are left with 2CO, they process payment in INR so that is a plus but they have a sign up fees and their transaction charge is double of paypal…

    Transecute Out!
    ABCPayments Out!!
    PayPal out!!!

Does anyone know whats the reason behind all this? Is it some government decision, or just something thats making these economically not feasable?

This seems to be the real story behind paypal’s stopped payments – from the bbc web site

We are Noida based company offering Flower and Cake Delivery Service in India through our website wwww.fngstore.com and were using Paypal for accepting Credit Card payments.

After the Paypal problems in India, we applied for EBS payment gateway recently and it has been all so smooth recently and there staff supportive especially there Mumbai branch people. We have gone live with there system now and would recommend them for all entrepreneurs.

  285. Sunanda Sunanda

    Hi Sania,

Just went through your website http://www.fngstore.com. You just have 4 netbanking options and 1 debit card option through EBS. If this makes you happy, then you see the number of payment options (50 + Netbanking, debit cards, credit card options) that I have on my website http://www.allindiaflorist.com through http://www.ccavenue.com ! Regards, Sunanda.

  286. Amod Oke Amod Oke

    Dear Sunanda,

Just check the payment interface of EBS and then check your CCavenue interface, the ccavenue looks like it is made in 1970!

The form is so boring and long, it looks like work, not shopping!

  287. Sunanda Sunanda

Hi Amodji, ccavenue recently updated their final payment page and I am quite happy with it. I am using ccavenue’s free shopping cart which EBS does not provide. Ultimately the information ccavenue and EBS are taking is actually the same. Not a data field more or less in the check out pages of both the gateways. However, I dont quite understand your argument either. Are you saying that its more important to have a neat jagmag design checkout page that will get you hundreds of orders everyday rather than having 45+ additional payment options wherein millions of potential customers can pay you for your products. SBI has at recent count had 98 million Netbanking customers, who can pay via ccavenue and not EBS. Amodji, we cant compare chalk and cheese. Sincerely, Sunanda.

  288. Deep Deep

I think CCAvenue improved the payment interface sometime back, it’s pretty decent from what I understand..

  289. Amod Oke Amod Oke

    Hi there,
Yes my apologies, the interface looks much better than earlier, but still some issues are still there…

I had used their service in the past, and they have much problems with payments not getting complete with problems like connection timeouts, or blocking the payment if the customer is at a different location than one specified in billing address, etc.

Also, another major thing compared with EBS is that though ebs offers less payment options, the initial non-refundable payment difference between the two is huge.
For 5% tdr, ccavenue charges a whopping Rs. 25000/-
Whereas, for the same tdr, EBS takes Rs. 12000/-

Another thing was that EBS people are very friendly and will recognize you by your name, but at ccavenue, you are just that, their “customer”.
So if they have sorted some of these issues, than sure, one can surely opt for ccavenue…

    Regards,
    Amod Oke

Oh and one more thing, EBS “also” offers free shopping cart.

  291. Hrishikesh Hrishikesh

    @ Deep,

    I agree with you deep…

    @ Amod,

CCAvenue also does offer Free shopping cart and also many other Interfaces which EBS doesn’t.

Also, the Online market is now become competitive for doing business, the number of payment options offered to the customer make a lot of difference. For instance, why do you want to stop a customer from down south having a KVB bank account from making the payments..or ask him to get another bank account or may be a credit card if he/she wants to buy your products.
Moreover, i believe Good Stuff doesn’t comes for cheap..

    Well Datz my opinion..!!

Paypal and 2checkout are really seem to be better option but Paypal Limitation of Access and closure of account without any giving any concrete reason is really a night mare. It would be better if you before goig for paypal for any major business check these links:www.screw-paypal.com and http://www.paypalsucks.com/

  293. Rajeshkumar Rajeshkumar

This blog is definitely a eye-opener for me.
It made me think beyond CCAvenue; sure i will check out paypal and checkout.

    thanks for all the info.

  294. Sunanda Sunanda

For me, ccavenue is easily the best payment gateway we have in india today.
