Stock market is a risky proposition. But all non-risky things will not give you good returns. The trick lies in striking the right balance.

Stock market most times is more like a gamble. Of course, its far better than race horses or flush  and can be a calculative gamble.

But before entering stock market, we must decide the maximum loss we are willing to incurr in a year or a month. There is no end to greed and desire to recover lost money. But if the limits are decided in advance, we will remain safe.

We have a trusted broker. We give him a cheque and a time frame. Both are kept somewhat flexible. We keep in touch with him during this period (usually, on phone, 1-2 times a week). At the end of the period, he comes back with a bunch of contracts/bills and a cheque. :) Touch-wood!! So far we haven't lost any money. If there are some scripts worth holding, we hold them for a longer period.

The cheque that we give him initially is our maximum risk for that period. :)

Since this is out in open, let me "spank" you openly.

Why the hell do you need to tell the world about where you invest? :| Somethings are better kept away from the public eye. Please remember that a few people will feel happy for you, but more people will feel jealous and pretend to be happy.

As for LIC, you have missed one bus, don't miss the other. Every b'day is a bus. ;) Premiums are calculated on your age. So don't delay any further. You will need to spend some time (probably a couple of months) on deciding which policy to take.

Take opinions of a few agents and study all options. There are many insurance companies and too many policies. But I personally prefer LIC ;)

Yes, exactly and that is what I am investing very small amount to understand the market. I will first get used to it, understand the things and then put more money into it. Putting more money without knowing the market wont be a good move at all.
