After past disasters by Rajshri Production, I was sure that there will be very low expectations for this movie. But it turned out to be wrong when I saw almost everyone at the ticket counter getting tickets for Vivah. Having such a good response for first day first show was kind of rare.

The movie is very simple and clean without much of twists and turns. Mr. Harishchandra (Anupam Kher) gets proposal for his son, Prem’s (Shahid Kapur) marriage from Poonam’s (Amrita Rao) chacha (Alok Nath). Though Prem was not ready but he agrees to meet Poonam after hesitations. They both like each other in the first meeting and both agree for the marriage. Poonam’s chacha does his best for the preparation of the marriage but their house catches fire just a day before the marriage. What happens after that? Will the marriage happen? It is for you to watch.

1.40 PM - Aishwarya Rai welcomes me with her gorgeous smile
2.30 PM - A call on my cell, “Hello..
Me: I am watching the movie, please call later
3.30 PM - Hello…?
Me: I am still in the movie, waiting for the interval, please call back later
4.30 PM: Hello…?
Me: I am still in the movie, please call back later
I get reply back this time… “How many movies are you planning to watch together?
Me: Dude, it is still Umrao Jaan, the same movie, same Aishwarya and same JP Dutta…

You must have imagined state of mind of normal person watching this movie.

Let me directly move on to the story (and then movie bashing)

The movie is about Umrao Jaan (Aishwarya Rai), how she is dragged into the brothel, how she falls in love and looses her love. The movie starts with Umrao Jaan narrating her story… Amiran who was kidnapped by 2 goons and was sold at brothel (Kotha) of Khanum Sahib (Shabana Azmi) in Lucknow. There she gets the name of Umrao Jaan and she soon becomes gen of Lucknow. In her first dance performance (Mujra) she falls in love with Nawab Sultan (Abhishek Bachchan) and Sultan also falls madly behind her beauty. But the life isn’t so easy, Sultan’s father does not like this relationship but Sultan decides to leave his house for Umrao but some circumstances makes him return back to his place. Umrao meets Sultan with the help of a dacoit, Faisal (Sunil Shetty), who is madly in love with her. But because of misunderstandings Umrao looses her love and returns back to Lucknow.

Wait, it is still not over… because of independence fights, Umrao is forced to leave the Lucknow and she goes back to Faizabad where she finds her mother and brother. But they do not accept Umrao / Amiran. Umrao is left alone in her world of Mujras and Kothas.

Google today launched Java based mobile application to check mails on your mobile phone. This was something which came as surprise. Earlier it used to take some time to load gmail from my mobile. And it was even kind of lengthy procedure to reply to mails, forward mails etc.. but this new application made my life real easy.

I downloaded the 113KB application from my mobile, installed it and Woha, a sleek cool interface opened in front of my eyes. I could see all the options (reply, delete, forward, report as spam etc..) for my mails and that too with shortcut keys.

Earlier I think only few options were available and it used to take ages to load the inbox but now it’s like, Zap!! too fast.

Some of the pics:

First we had seen an array of stations getting renamed (Railway stations and Airports) to Chatrapati Shivaji. Now, it is Jagannath Seth’s turn. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wants to rename Grant Road to Jagannath Seth Station. Some excerpts from the article:

THE ruling party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shiv Sena, stonewalled its own proposal to rename Mumbai Central railway station to Jagannath Shankar Seth Railway Station. Their logic not a single railway station in the city has the word Mumbai attached to it. Now, the Sena wants to rename Grant Road Station after Seth.

It took about a month-and-a-half for the Sena to realise that no other railway station has the word Mumbai. Dalvi told MiD DAY, “There was a proposal of renaming Mumbai Central but the same name has the identity of the city. So we dropped it after a discussion with (Shiv Sena executive president) Uddhav Thackeray.”

Dalvi further said, “Now we are contemplating a proposal to rename Grant Road Railway Station as Jagannath Shankar Seth Railway Station.”

I still do not understand, why there is any need to rename stations? Instead of wasting time in these kind of stupid things, why not find solutions for current problems?
