If someone offers you a free lifetime credit card and if it is SBI, then please please please for god’s sake do not ever accept the offer. I have already made a mistake by applying for the SBI card and I do not want you guys to make the same mistake again.
Here is my story:
I had applied for lifetime free SBI card though Lifestyle departmental stores. I used the card on few occasions and cleared my payment from time to time. At that time I was using SBI’s online facility to check my invoices because I was not getting invoices by post. But After sometime, the online site stopped accepting my username and password and new registration also did not work. After 4-5 months a person from SBI visited my place and asked for the payment. On inquiring, I was told that I have to pay some Rs. 590 as installment and my alleged pending payment was around Rs. 3,000.
After talking to the manager, I got to know that invoices were being sent to wrong address and this way the interest got added with the actual amount. The person apologized for the same and assured me that he will send fresh copy of invoice with correct amount within 2-3 days. But till date I have not received that! After 3-4 months, I started getting invoices with the same incorrect amount.
I called up customer care regarding this issue. I was told to get in touch with GE via email. (feedback.gesbi@ge.com). But instead of getting a proper reply, I received a reply after 20 days stating that they were not able to find my account information in their database.
During this period, I started getting harassing calls from Payment Department (Delhi) daily at around 9.30 AM. The calls did not stop despite explaining them the reason every time. After few days, I spoke to a person named Sumit and he assured me that I will have to pay just the actual pending amount i.e. Rs. 1468 and rest of the charges will be waived off as they were incorrect.
However, to my utter dismay this too did not help. The invoices with incorrect amount did not stop. I tried to explain my ordeal to customer support person again but the representative (Ashish Gupta) was not able to understand the issue and kept on saying that I will have to pay the whole amount.
To make the things worse, I got call from their payment department again, this time the lady was kind of rude. I explained the issue to her but she was just blaming everything on me saying it was my responsibility to pay the amount. But she did not say anything when I asked about their responsibility to send the invoice on time and to the correct address. She again asked me to pay the principal amount (Which I had paid last time), I asked told her to speak to Sumit (the guy who had asked me to principal amount of Rs. 1468 and they will waive off rest of the incorrect charges) but she said, she does not know him as they have 1000s of employees working there. I do not understand, if they have 1000 employees then why can’t they make a simple log of calls made to customers?
I have asked the lady to send me the statements again and I will pay off whatever is the principal amount is. But after that I am not going entertain these guys at all. Let them do whatever they want.
So moral of the story? NEVER EVER GO FOR SBI CARD, ONE OF THE WORST CREDIT CARD COMPANIES. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY WITH WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
Update: If Bank fails to solve your queries then you can also send your complaints to Banking Ombudsman on RBI Website
Update: SBI had sent me legal notice to pay the dues, I also sent them legal reply (My friend, who is also Lawyer sent it on my behalf). The calls stopped suddenly and today I got the statement with all the charges reversed, the total amount payable was 0 (Zero). So finally, I managed to get rid of SBI card

I’ve had a similiar experience with CitiFinance Loan repayment. They were trying to deduct my EMI amount from a non existent Maharashtra Bank account although I do not hold any Maharashtra Bank account. I had to explain the situation to the payment-defaulters dept. every month for 13 months before they could rectify it. Some hired goons from the repayment dept. dropped by at my place several times.
It was a harrowing experience. I’m just glad it’s over now.

… stupid ppl ….. customer care departments r never to help customers .. its actually to give lots and lots of trouble to the customers … its not just with SBI or so and so company … its basically all the companies … they will just show you the bill amount and when we ask for the explanation .. they will say ” Sir, its the rules, you have to pay”
wht the hell rules .. if u have such strict rules .. thn why do u need customer support … customers will help thm selves only to not get in to any trouble..stop giving us stupid statements .. just close down your customer care or employ polite and some brains to answer your customers .. not these brain less creatures…..
I fully agree They do “just Fraud Bankingâ€. SBI three times collected my checked after the due dates while I dropped my checks 4-5 days before the due dates. The SBI charged RS 2100 and when I requested to reverse back the amount they said Okay but never did that. I have paid all the amount and now requested to cancel my card. “That is the only way” I found and waiting for their reply.

Bingo… nice site first of all… and You know what… i had the same problem. I got a statement before even my card arrived. I Called them up and said i dont want this Funny card which gives me a statement before the card arrives with a spend of 300 Rs (Some funny insurance which i am not even aware of) . I got statements after statements after that… and guess what… i called them up and fired them hard. The statement disappeared and so did the calls. Just be rude to these Donkeys… and CALL THEM BEFORE THEY CALL YOU. a Rupee or 2 Could save your Blood Pressure…

SBI have worst customer support, They charged e extra amount of Rs50 every month for insurnce, I asked them to stop this insurance and I dont want it, still they kept like that and asked me to pay the amount, when I said I dont pay they are ready to cancel the card but not the amount.

I took sbi card in Jan 2006 and in Feb 2006 they gave me insurance called life surakha, from that there is no surakha in my life. Till now they are not sent any documents regarding this insurance. I complained number of times but there is no action. They cancelled my card and insurance which is fine but not the account. They are keep calling me to pay the money. When i asked the reason, if you are receiving the statements then you have to pay the money irrespective of what you got or not, I said you are not send the document till now, there is response from the life surkha insurance dept and I am not used the card for any my personal reasons. How could i pay the money?
They are calling me daily, from last one year, i said clearly i am not going to pay single rupee.

Yes, SBI cards is worst credit card and fully agree with srinivas.I took sbi card in Feb 2007 and in April 2007 they gave me insurance called life surakha, and told the one time charge for Rs. 2700/-. For this insurance I agreed after a repeated call from their Delhi office.After that I agreed from that there is no surakha/peace in my life.I received a statement in the month of May stating that I have to pay Rs.3200 plus. Then I started reciving call for the payments daily. I asked where I have received the insurance policy bond and why should I pay the amount more than Rs.2700/-but not received satisfactory reply. I still agreed to pay Rs. 400/- for what they asked as minimum you shoul pay and you will get the policy bond but till date I have not received the same. I complained number of times but there is no action. If I do not get the policy bond by this month end then certainly I am going to cancel my card and request all my other friends to surrender the card.
Please tell your friends do not take SBI cards. this is really worst card.

Now I am thinking why I didnt read this post 1 month back. I got a SBI card yesterday. While applying for it, the agent told it is life time free card, yesterday when I got the card and read the tarrif list, it is 1500rs annual fee. The agent is now telling, he is not responsible for this. Anyone help me out, how to get rid of it…
Call them, strictly tell them close the card, I am not gonna pay a penny. And then don’t bother entertaining them.
Guys chill down…rules of the game
1. As per RBI guideline, don’t pay till you don’t get the statement in youe hand.
2. Complain immediately if there is any issue in the statement. So after that till the issue is not resolved just chill down. Once the issue is resolved then pay only principle. No interest payment at all.
3. If they refuse to reolve issue then just tell them “Do whatever they can I won’t pay”. They will accept it & settle for the principle.
4. IF rude people like Citi / HSBC can bend what the hell is SBI…this is my experience.
Make sure you are using worlds like Banking Ombudsman, RTI (Right To Information), RBI in your discussions…and everything goes well
About closing the card…simply tare it n keep it with you…don’t even bother to inform them…just inform them I have lost my card..please cancel it….just drop 2 line mails…don’t worry they have no choice but to close the card as you have the proof that you have informed that card is lost and you don’t want any new card but to close the a/c permanently…

I fuly agree with you. I had asked them to waive off annual reneal fees or else I am not intrested in using SBI card. They keep on sending monthly statement and in every statement they kept adding the annual fee and the interest charges. My balance due is not inflated to RS 3200/- (all annual fees charged in last 6 months). The people there dont know how to talk to customers. They dont understand your mails. Can someine advise how to approach customer courts/organisations

Am on trap of same experience what Mr.Deeps – I got the one year before for balance transfer of Rs.15,000/-
and hv been advised that 6 months interest free, whereas have been charged 4th month itself, shoot up mails and talked over phone nothing happen.
Again the change of communication address, but still they are communicating old address..
In one year have used this card for nothing, but finance charges or one or the other hve been charged no feedback, but agents are chasing me for payment.
In one year almost have paid morethan 10,000/- but it still shows that am owing to Bank Rs.10,000/- any guy’s could you pls assist.

I’ve been using SBI Card since abt 4 yrs. Surprisingly, everthing’s fine. Every year when the annual fees are charged to me, my requesst to waive off is approved within 2 hrs. I use the card regularly and payment is regular, infact, in advance.

HDFC credit card is the worst card i have seen , Guys don’t go for that, they will levied ilegal charges , such as Joining fees , anual fee, even i made the minimum monthly amount but they levied late payment charges , No one listen to you . the due amount go up . i finaly paid the amount in order to avoid unnecessary tensions .

SBI Customer Care is Worst
I had SBI Card till recently. I booked a Whirlpool Washing Machine through their website (www.sbicard.com) and the order placed with http://www.onlinedeals.in (as directed by the SBI web site). The item was not delivered within a week as committed by them by email though they boasted that shipment would be the fastest(I live in Mumbai). The said onlinedeals.in owned by site http://www.vriti.com (NOIDA) was also not responding except till accespting/realising miney from SBI. I shot a number of msgs to SBI Card site contact site without any response. Even they gave a phone No of a section supplying cameras and mobile phone when I actually bought Washing Machine. A strongly worded email saying that I was thinking of changing over to ICICI card made them answer a bit nice expressing some regret for communication gap. Even onlinedelas.in (of NOIDA) were also not responding to my calls to supply the item as they realised my money. I used to call them from different phones to make them talk.
LESSON ; Never go for SBI Card, the worst Card. Never deal with vritiinfocom (www.vriti.com and their http://www.onlinedeals.in) which delas with online booking of FMCG at discounted rates for SBI Card and client co’s. THE TECHNOLOGY HAD IMPROVED TO FACILITATE DEALINGS BUT HUMANS ARE TO CHANGE A LOT TO BE HONEST I9N DEALINGS. Traditional values and culture need to be revived. Commercialism cut throat is rampant, no cordiality.

SBI Card is really worst , i also have the very same experience of not sending the statement before due date , and once due date is over send next month statement with late charge & intrest , sbi card people are cheater , they are doing all this delibrately to earn extra money ,High court should put ban on such type of card service provider and charge them heavy panelty .i alredy lodge complaint with RBI .

What is currently happening to me is similar to the above story. This happened because in November they added a Hospitalization poicy from royal Sundaram without any of my consent. When i refused to pay, they converted it into EMI’s and still showing me balnce on my account when they had told me that they wud send me a no dues certificate when i paid them an amount just as a goodwill gesture. Therefore beware of any such policies. And it is also not guaranteed if ppl who call u from SBI Cards actually belong to SBI cards.
Insensitive, uncouth, brainless money grabbing twits these guys- SBI card. 5 days after full payment of my dues, my card remains declined. My first ever default, when my expenses went 10 rupees over my 50,000 credit limit, my card was declined, i was fined 560 rupees, and 5 days hence, it has still not been activated. the reason, saturday and sunday not working days, so they can only do something on monday morning. such insufferable gits!!!! i am done with this stupid bunch of morons. my card is going into the bin in pieces. lots of other cards out there.

The worst service ever experinced, I checked all web pages and called all possible numbers still can’t get to find a right number in India.
Contrary to the above grievences , I had pleasant experiences with SBI card. Very fair and transparent transactions. Not a single incidence of overbilling or unfair charges , interests etc in last 5 years.

its good to put a case on these people, these are very rude and not humane….
I dont know why rbi is accepting sbi to continue credit card section……..
I am also facing this problem now. I ve sent a mail to reserve bank trivandrum representative and umbudsman. I am going to send a legel notice against the. One Mr Jeevan is calling me,my office staff and my family members to harass me. I will include his name in that legal notice.

I applied for SBI card a few months back (feb).
These people attached an insurance policy with the card which i never asked for. On cancellation they are asking for 50% of the amount (which is very hard to understand-why?). I have filed a complaint against them. If anyone has a similar problem please let me know, we can move forward together.
BTW i have decided not to pay them no matter what happens.
Same thing happened with me and a few of my collegues. We never applied for this royal sundaram insurance policy but recieved it. Now that they have cancelled the policy (on request) but asking for a payment. I have already filed a complaint against SBI in consumer court.
I am using SBI Card since abt 4 Yrs. Initially I too recd this insurance policy, which wasn’t asked for. I emailed them, called up the customer support and submitted an application (hard copy) at the drop box. The insurance was withdrawn without any fees (ofcourse I did not pay the insurance fees as shown in the statement).
Try mailing them at feedback.gesbi@ge.com giving ur card and complaint details. You should receive some reply within 24 Hrs, as I do.
