If someone offers you a free lifetime credit card and if it is SBI, then please please please for god’s sake do not ever accept the offer. I have already made a mistake by applying for the SBI card and I do not want you guys to make the same mistake again.
Here is my story:
I had applied for lifetime free SBI card though Lifestyle departmental stores. I used the card on few occasions and cleared my payment from time to time. At that time I was using SBI’s online facility to check my invoices because I was not getting invoices by post. But After sometime, the online site stopped accepting my username and password and new registration also did not work. After 4-5 months a person from SBI visited my place and asked for the payment. On inquiring, I was told that I have to pay some Rs. 590 as installment and my alleged pending payment was around Rs. 3,000.
After talking to the manager, I got to know that invoices were being sent to wrong address and this way the interest got added with the actual amount. The person apologized for the same and assured me that he will send fresh copy of invoice with correct amount within 2-3 days. But till date I have not received that! After 3-4 months, I started getting invoices with the same incorrect amount.
I called up customer care regarding this issue. I was told to get in touch with GE via email. (feedback.gesbi@ge.com). But instead of getting a proper reply, I received a reply after 20 days stating that they were not able to find my account information in their database.
During this period, I started getting harassing calls from Payment Department (Delhi) daily at around 9.30 AM. The calls did not stop despite explaining them the reason every time. After few days, I spoke to a person named Sumit and he assured me that I will have to pay just the actual pending amount i.e. Rs. 1468 and rest of the charges will be waived off as they were incorrect.
However, to my utter dismay this too did not help. The invoices with incorrect amount did not stop. I tried to explain my ordeal to customer support person again but the representative (Ashish Gupta) was not able to understand the issue and kept on saying that I will have to pay the whole amount.
To make the things worse, I got call from their payment department again, this time the lady was kind of rude. I explained the issue to her but she was just blaming everything on me saying it was my responsibility to pay the amount. But she did not say anything when I asked about their responsibility to send the invoice on time and to the correct address. She again asked me to pay the principal amount (Which I had paid last time), I asked told her to speak to Sumit (the guy who had asked me to principal amount of Rs. 1468 and they will waive off rest of the incorrect charges) but she said, she does not know him as they have 1000s of employees working there. I do not understand, if they have 1000 employees then why can’t they make a simple log of calls made to customers?
I have asked the lady to send me the statements again and I will pay off whatever is the principal amount is. But after that I am not going entertain these guys at all. Let them do whatever they want.
So moral of the story? NEVER EVER GO FOR SBI CARD, ONE OF THE WORST CREDIT CARD COMPANIES. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY WITH WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

Update: SBI had sent me legal notice to pay the dues, I also sent them legal reply (My friend, who is also Lawyer sent it on my behalf). The calls stopped suddenly and today I got the statement with all the charges reversed, the total amount payable was 0 (Zero). So finally, I managed to get rid of SBI card

I agree with every one here that sbi card is the worst ever credit card company that i have come across. Now it seems that they have crossed all the limits of modesty and are entering a phase of goondaayism.
This absolutely correct and I am also one of the victims of SBI cards, after agreeing on 0.99% Interest rate on balance transfer for 6 months, they told me after 5 months that they will charge on 0.99% monthly basis interest rate. I registered my complain with Banking Ombudsman of RBI. I don’t know how to solve this matter ?. If anybody have any suggestions please help me @ zipsubhash@yahoo.com

SBI, a government bank, as usual no.1 in making tall claims but when comes to execution they have a tag line “*terms and conditions apply.” Thats the actual problem with this card. The different team representatives dont have any kind of coordination among them and to your utter surprise most of them dont even know when a particular scheme started and when it ended. Call up their customer care twice, u will get two different answers for the same question.
My story goes for the flight tickets booked by Sbi card through a particular website where they claim to give a 25% cashback on the basic fare of all domestic flights. But dint got the discount. When called their customer care, the person said its available only on Indian Airlines. As i asked as your pamphlet said “25% discount on all indian flights”, you will be amazed to hear the answer i got. “Indian airlines has changed its name to Indian Flights.!!!!!” Well am still waiting for my discount…
i totally agree that the worst ever card is SBI credit card. It is a simply a passport to insolvency. No one knows how they calculate interest. They keep changing rules time and again. Please please please dont accept this card.
Hey Guys..I am also one of the victim SBI as I am still suffering from them. my story starts wen i appplied for BT i.e balance transfer but the DD came to me after 1 year after my request date. they had started leving interest from the later date i.e request date. Nothing come out till date., I received the DD & give it back to Noida GE office. they were prompt to revers my BAlance transfer Amount but wat @ the interest which has accumulated from one & half year.which I am not supose to pay as I didnt use the DD. So after fighting & mailing..nothing has resulted yet.
Pls guys you can help me out in this or do i need to go Ombudsmsn ..how to approach them..

SBI card is the best one which I came accross till now.
I agree with most of you when it comes to the pathetic service provided by credit card companies. However, after having endured and suffered these companies for quite a few years, I have some basic observations:
(1) Depsite knowing all possible hassles, people like you and me still go for newer cards, sometimes because of a pestering sales rep, sometimes because we find a particular card good looking, sometimes to show off, sometimes for the heck of it… but more often than not because we feel it will be a convenient paying option
(2) Credit card companies work on a simple model (and read this carefully). They generally dont make any money on your transactions… unless of course, you slip a little over the due date and they get back grinnig with ‘late payment fees’ and ‘finance charges’. Have you ever divided these charges by the amount o/s?!!! You’ll be shocked to see the effective interest rate. The other mode of course is annual fees, relatively harmless and more straightforward. So remember, they are just waiting for an excuse to levy funny charges on you – thats how they survive.
(3) Customer care more often than not, is so inaccessible (I’ve been made to wait anything from 2 to 18 minutes for a query). Try a tough query like reversal of charges, confirmation of payment, redemption of reward points or any complaint – the phone executive will do his/her best to test your patience.. hoping you hang up in desperation. Worst, there are no ‘real’ people you can reach and talk to. If the phone executive doesnt like your voice, she’ll just conveniently disconnect or put you on endless hold. Its upto you to call all over again, enter those codes (‘dial 1 for shit, 2 for crap, 3 for bull…)
(4) Sweet talk rarely works with them. Whenever I’ve been polite, they’ve shuttled me here and there. But burst out in anger and they suddenly become more cooperative.
All in all its a lose-lose deal. If you stay calm, they’ll keep fleecing you. If you want to prevent that, you’ll have to spend valuable energy and increase your BP
My solution (for myself too)
(1) Keep a free credit card with low credit limit (not more than 25k) as backup for emergencies. Keep a tab on its expiry date lest they levy renewal charges
(2) Ask your bank to give you a debit card – it solves your cash carrying problem, gives you buying power without the risk of any funny and painful charges or increased BP

I’ve had similar experiences. Be polite and nobody listens….not limited to only Credit Cards, but elsewhere too. Unlike in other countries, customer is not the king here. Companies take the customer for granted.
I would like to add here that the credit card users need to be cautious and alert when using credit cards. Know your limits, your budget. You need to repay this amount. Know your card payment due dates. Be prepared. Pay in time and avoid un-necessary funny charges.

I am also using SBI card for the last 3 years and so far I have no complaints against them. I used to get their statements promptly every month, by post and through e-mail too. I used to pay the dues well before time every month. When I received the insurance policy on the first month, I told them that I don’t need it and they cancelled it. So far they have been nice to me on phone. I wish that such a good relation continues. I had some more credit cards (whose names I don’t want to disclose) and their services were much poorer as compared to SBI card.
Yes, as said earlier, I had similar experiences as Bharathan. No problems with SBI Card.
I received Credit Cards from ICICI Bank without any request. A fortnight later, I receive another card from them based on the earlier card, again without a request. Moreover, my last name was wrongly printed on both these cards. Similarly from HSBC. I received an Add-on card without any request.
I just had a similar experience with my SBI card, statement missing and I have ended up paying a big fine. They said they will find out where the statements went. Let me see.
I have a CitiBank Indian Oil card liked to my savings account. They never charge me anything, even my wife’s addon card is free. No troubles since last 3 years. You can set options for converting big purchases to EMIs from the web. Also the credit limit can be changed through phone banking without an operator’s help. They have IPIN for web purchases, so nobody can steal your CVV and make online purchases. There’s lot of discount offers every month. They deduct the minimum amount automatically, so no late payment fees. I drag and drop the payment from my savings account. If you too have a CitiBank Suvidha Account, go for this.

sbi is worst possible card. they r like kigs who will harras u like any thing, i had very bad story. they charged me 29000 when amount was not paid to exam centre and i had to pay it
SBI service sucks ! don’t ever think of having sbi. they are going ruin because of their service. their banking service is faaar better when compared to their credit card division. 20/24 hrs their website would be down.
I am also using SBI card(vishal mart) for the last 6 months i have complaint against them. I used to get their statements promptly every month, by post and use to drop my cheques into SBI card drop box to pay the due well before time every month. When I received a call from SBI CS regarding the due, I told him that I have already droped a cheque of 1000/ personaly (actual min due amount in 250/- and OS was 5000) to avoid interest and then he said will chk our DB and get back to you soon. similar calls continued for 5-6 days regularly some times a female, some times a male banging my head off with same issue. At at last another statement came with wierd interest charges with fine and all stuff. NOW i made up my mind to clear all the OS and don’t want any relation this stupid bank. paid all the OS 6700/- no phone calls no emails so far from that side, suddenly that 1000/- chk got clear with 6700/- chk……..
will wait for JAN’08 statement will see if everything seems OK then will stop using the card for lifetime. else will see till end without paying /spending anymore money on this stupid thing.

I have also worst experience with this persons,They changed my initials,I asked them to my original initial,for that they require proof ,once again I send my proof eventhough they aren’t change my initials.I send lot of mails to them and call customer care they told this is not our department and also they forcely cut Personnel Accident Insurence Premiums without my instructions, I asked customer care to unsubscribe from that scheme. they told that it is not their dept.

This is the worst card I have ever used,the collection agents dont come on time and even if they come they charge Rs 60 for collection of check,actually people got confused with SBI and SBI Card,still people do not know that this card is being run by GE Money and not SBI.People should immediately cut the card into 4 pieces and send it back to the GE people,they are more or less cheating people.BEWARE.
I too faced the same problem with SBI Bank. The worst Card i ever seen. Creating the account they took 2 months that too with wrong address. for 3 months i did n`t receive any statement either by post or post. Suddenly one day payment dept. people called and forced me to pay the amount. I paid the full amount of Rs.X with post dated check , 10 days before the due dates. Even though i paid the full amount thru check they called me several times for payment saying we will close the collection evry month end on dec 31st, so atleast you should pay minimum amt. i paid that too including all tax and late payemnt fee. Now i want to close my card. But that idiots charged me check collection fee of rs.61. The site is most ridiculous without any security.
I too had worst experience with SBI Credit Card.
I have spent Rs.7640 on 27/10/07, and paid the amount through Visa Money Transfer on 03.12.07, i.e 3 days before the due date. They said they have not received the payment and I had to make payment again through cheque on 07.01.2008 for the same usage. I made a claim on VISA for return of earlier payment. Now they ask me to pay Rs.311 towards late payment charges.
I have been corresponding with them regularly, they reverse the amount on request and again debit late payment fee and finance charges etc. This is how SBI treat their customers for prompt payment. I am holding other Bank credit cards, which are updated immediately and the service is prompt. SBI CARD HAS MATERED THE ART OF DRIVING AWAY THEIR CUSTOMERS.

Same here. the worst experience with this SBI Card. Never ever go for SBI. They can harrase u any time in the day starting from 7 in th morning to 11 in the night….I had transacted for RS. 19334 on 16th August and I had paid an amount of RS. 19900 on Sep 8th. But they have received the check on 11th September. Now they have charged me an interest amount of RS 2300 odd even after I have paid the total amount within the period of 30 days within the grace period of 45 days.Now they have charged me an interest amount of RS 2300 odd even saying that their bill generation date is 18th.When I called the customer care first they said it’s the interest charged on the Super Suraksha Policy which i had never opted for and I had not received the any Policy.Only after I complained they have sent me the policy on 8th November.So there is no question of charging the interest on the Policy amount. And till then i had made an extra payment of 1066 to avoid their harrasement which now i got its for policy. But still they have charged me the interest of RS 2300. then what the intrest for? for paying it on time or they recieved 1 day late for that?Also when they give the card they will not say or nowhere it’s specified that we need to pay the amount depending on the bill date not on the transaction done where in we have a grace period of 45 days. It’s just said that we will be have a grace period of 45 days for the transaction and if we don’t pay the amount within the period we need to pay interest+ late payment….blabla bla… This is really unacceptable where in you keep the customers unaware of the facts and charge them unnecessarily. and even after writing to customer care or to their head no results no reversal…and still these customer cares guys keep calling u regardless of the time and if we with patience say will not hear anything and start harrasing…
Guys get rid of these idiot card and inform all of ur friends not to opt for this stupid SBI.

You see I am paying you by the time I can’t understand why I am fail in settlement if there is problem in point F, so I got notice from SBI representatives now we have local Accounts for clearing of your cheque. so your cheque will clear within one or two days. I maintain sufficient fund and I prove that. but some cheque on 07-08-2007 will clear before your cheque. unfortunate.
I request SBI just look my account all cheque are clear within one or two days the last cheque will present after long time.
Sir, payment systems SBI Cards is always not fair, many times calls from you that our server is down so give us post dated cheque and some times yours local agency failed, some time there local representative will change. time by times, there are many confusion in your call center.Daily 8.30Am many and many re confirmation calls from your calls centers. many time misbehaving calls from your calls centers, there is no communication between there agencies. I am the person who punished from SBI Cards systems. I have all the letters and records to prove you lots of mistake in my SBI account.
I think the SBI Cards finds short cut of Income,they are not interseted in thinking costumers faver.
In my meter I request you to kindly look after my account and guide what i do. still i am not recd N.O.C. of zero balance statement as per they promise.
If I not find justice from SBI Cards I will go for legal.

When I read about SBI Card, I wonder, how a Bank is allowed to spoil its name, when the card is infact run by GE. So GE is pocketing all profit, tormenting card holders but all bad named go to SBI., Great.
seriously, SBI has to rethink on the strategy of adding insurance without consent on the credit cards..majority of the card complaints r regarding this suraksha thing only..
even i have been troubled for the same..some 2 yrs back i got call for this surakha insurance for 2600/- odd but in statement it came as 3600/-, i immediatley called up CSR and todl them abt this and told them to cancell this and cancel card immediately as there was no o/s on the card. now after 2 yrs i get a call saying i need to pay 4500/-, i asked them wot its regarding, they told me to get intouch with the chennai office..i called chennai guys, they said its insurance renewal..i havnt got any plocy bond for the same..now they are calling up for settlement saying they can settle thing for 1500/-also..i havnt accepted any of this..theykeep calling me , i say the same,that i wont pay anything..ts going on now..
I have been having issues with this card since about an year (since March 16 2007 statement) when I expected a cash back offer from them. As they did not credit the cash back I made the payment excluding this cash back amount. Since then I have also been put finance charges every month.
For several months I called them up over phone (with no luck) and finally during bitter arguments and conversations with Team leads, etc., I came to know that I can escalate this with head.sbicards@ge.com. Even these people only after pursuing are now responding. Though they respond to the emails quickly the contents of their response is often meaningless without mathematics or logics.
Now I am dealing with them regarding the finance charges. They have reversed some part of the finance charges so far.

Even I faced the same problem with this sbi credit card section, I paid the amount, after payment also, they harrassed me through many calls, I have got several threatnings by them, Now i have planned to go through the legal way. I have discussed this problem with my lawyer now I am filing a case regarding torturing my day to day life.

I am also one of the victim of SBI card. My son got the SBI card when he was in india. He closed the card while going to US for studies, in December. His card is here with me and there is no transction from December. One fine day in March He got the bill of Rs. 945, for no reason.He informed me to check and inform SBI that his card is closed. I had a great try to contact SBI but failed to do so. There customer care refused to respond as I was not card holder.
I went through the internet to find some link, I can use but found many letters from different people, who were harresed by SBI. To avoid the hassacement I paid the chaque of Rs. 945 for no rason and for no transction.
Now I want a written confirmation from SBI that the A/c is closed. Till such time I will be under tension. Kindly guide me how I can be releaved from the trap of SBI.

As a badluck I got an SBI card through an executive who wanders in Govt offices and alas I happened to join an insurance scheme. I was told by the costomer care exec that after paying the total premium, the same will be reversed and credited in to my account for any purchase. I opted for a emi scheme and started paying the amount. After a few months the arrival of statements stopped and my real badluck started. since then I had paid double the premium amount, but it is informed that it is not completed yet. They suffered me a lot ; now I’m longing to escape from this trap. I had not destroyed the card bcause I dont want to lose the premium I paid. So my sincere advice, bevare of sbi cards.
I could not find any card worse than SBI. They have a horrible customer support and billing engine. SBI card is just a curse and pain in the ass.

My ordeal is different. Only once I have used SBI card to take money from an ATM. They have charged exsorbitant interest. Then stopped using at ATM. I used to pay regularly. I refused to take their loan, insurance etc. I only pay their regular service charge which I do not know why collected. Then my new card issue started. The inefficient people did not write the proper address of my Office. The inefficient courier did not find my house address. They useless courier company asked my residence address. I have told Old No17A and new no 4. Immidiately an arrogant lady told me that there is change of address and so she will not deliver. Then went to SBI Customer harassment cell. Again another arrogant lady took the phone and refused to help but only got my card cancelled. So if any one want the card to cancell, simply call the SBI Customer Harassment cell–your card will be cancelled. I have sent a mail to them but no response. Why reply??????. Government company—job is secured—-promotion/increment etc very secured—why to worry just to make fun—harass the cutomer !!!!

I have taken a card and holding that from 2004. In 2006, the SBI card has sent me new card through an USELESS/INEFFICIENT courier company called BLUEDART. That company could not deliver the card and sent that back. Finally one day I came to understand that the card what I was having is use less. Then I contacted your Customer DIS SERVICE center and the card was re sent. Again that use less BLUE DART could not find that address. I was following up and got the card at their office.
This year june the old card is expiering and a new card to be issued. To avoid the harassment, i was contacting your CUSTOMER DIS SERVICE center which is probably employing some of the most rude lady employees you can find any where. I have received an SMS 08-05-2008 from SBI card intimating a no SB08127082505 is despatched through that useless, un helpfull courier company.
I started tracking that and contacted the BLUEDART customer DIS SERVICE center.(044-28241234) I have sent mail also to this use less courier company.This use less courier comany customer DIS SERVICE sender people (Ms Monica, Mr Asmad etc) told me that the card can be delivered to me at my house on 19-05-2008.
BLUEDART has given first way bill no as 43538726022. Then they gave another no as 32534111993 and again one more new no as 11735422985.
As I was away from Chennai, I requested this useless BLUEDART –DIS SERVICE companay through their CUSTOMER HARRASMENT CENTER to deliver that card to me at my address (SSS PALACE, Old No 17A, New No 4, 9th Street, Krishna Nagar, West Tambaram, Chennai 600045-land line 044-22263818). One most RUDE lady today morning informed me that there is change of address and so she will not deliver that to me. The change is the New No4 and 9th Street. Earlier the number is 17A and the MUNICIPALTY has not given street name/Number etc. I told that rude CUTOMER HARASSMENT EXCECUTIVE LADY that there is no change of house only the number etc changed by the MUNICIPALTY. That rude lady was very adamant and informed me that she will sent that back.
I went to the SBI card CUSTOMER HARASSMENT CELL. There again another RUDE lady picked up the phone. After all recorded conversations. I have explained the harassment I underwent at the HANDS of this BLUEDART comapany and requested her that I am flying to US in a week and it is not possible for me to under go the procedure of revalidating the address etc and so I (Sr General Manager–maintaining about 40Lakhs deposit in SBI ADYAR and took home loan 13Lakhs at SBI ADYAR and my salary is also deposited in this bank) requested her to HELP ME OUT. That lady said that it s not possible for her to do any thing and he can not do any thing (except harassing me). I told her that if such is your treatment, I do not want such a card and so you can cancell that. That RUDE LADY has immidiately got my card cancelled.
What for you are employing such a rude un helpful lady. Afterwards I called the BLUEDART CUTOMER DISSERVICE center. This time another person took the phone and he assured me that he will arrange to deliver the card. Again I went to SBI HARASSEMENT CENTER and another male took the phone and informed me that my card is cancelled by that most rude adament lady you are employing as CUTOMER HARRASMENT EXCECUTIVE.
At 13.00Hrs that useless BLUEDART courier comapny is delivering that useless card at my house.
what is happening at your ORGANISATION.
whether that cancellation will be revoked or I have to take card from other bank.

Why don’t you surrender your SBI Card at least now.
I have surrendered mine some 4 years ago and yesterday i have received a mail attachment of my Monthly statement which is password protected *.pdf file

SBI card is the worst card to have.
The customer care people are very rude and the billing is very erratic.
Better to stay away from SBI.
As my bad luck prevailed, i got this card. I am surprised by the way these collection agents and the teleecallers talk and behave over the phone. It happened to me that I had been out of my town on official tour. I generally do not pick up mob. no. unless they are known to me any how. It happened that the sbi tetcallers were kept callin and somehow as i was in a meeting so i didn’t picked up the phone. To my utter surprise, i got an sms from the same no. 0921234421 saying “kuttey key bacchey phone utta”. Even this has been reported to the customer care and they did as expected – there is no action against them and no reply from the customer care.
I request you to please be away from SBI Card
I am surprised to read so much negative about
SBI Card. I am using their card for the last 11 years
and over the years they have upgraded my
cards from classic to the GOLD card now. Now the primary
and the add on card both are free. Never had
problem, although sometime by mistake they include
annual charge, add on card charge but after I
explain to them they immediately reverse the charges.
Nevertheless, it is better to know the experience
of other people.
Please dont go for SBI CARD. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK as SBI CARD MEMBER

SBI card collection department is the worst that i have ever experienced they will not listen to what we say they keep on calling for more than 10 times in a day inspite of the calrification given to the first call
i was not receiving the monthly statement from them but exactly before the bill generation day the calls from collection dept will start inspite of informing them that the bill was not received they say you have to pay xxxxx amount which is due by me they do not listen to what we say
the same calls will be received by me for more than 10 times in the same day
these calls are so distrubing that once i was caught in the busiest hours 9.45am while i was travelling to my office by a police men for driving my car while attending mobile (SBI Call) i was fined
since than i stopped attending these calls most of the time
i can only say dont go for SBI Card
i have several other cards but i have not been harassed by them as they send their bills in time and i pay cool sailing..
Ya! i too am facing the same difficulty. their website is constantly under updation and half of the bills never reach me. Sometimes the site does not accept the password and blocks the login.
Yes, Your statement is totaly correct. I am also facing same problem from last one year. I have even full and final singned copy of collection person, still i am geting statement with interset every month. I have even contacted Mr. Ajay Bhathi Head SBI card. But there is improvement. SBI card never follow thier committment. I am also using almost evry bank card, but every bank customer care fullfill their commitment. So avoid SBI card.

Total SBI credit card department is the worst & useless , in fact Credit card department is a cheater & cheating public money.
They never give any break up of interest even asked whatever they will give , we have no option rather to accept.

My experience with all cards are bad. SBI is worse as it hires goons with no education and language skills to work at call centres. both male and female callers are rude, crude and can not utter a word of English. They are the most behenjio characters and would come down to tapori langauge. They cant check internet adn I doubt whether they have any phone manners too. They are the most uncouth and unprofessional kinds. we are heading towards a goonda regime where by goons of ICICI and SBI will rule. Beware. dont take SBI cards.

There are too many issues with SBI Card. I am absolutely not at all satisfied with the customer service which SBI is providing to the customer. This is the Worst ever card I have seen in my life.
Issues with SBI Card
1. Unfair late payment fees
2. Some Payments which are made are not reflected in my online account
3. Bad behavior by call center executives
4. Unfair charges on the card without asking the customer
5. Not received any documents for SBI card Royal sundaram insurance documents
6. Not received any documents on SBI Protection Plus insurance
7. SBI card online services has lot of errors
8. Nobody cares to resolve all these issues
