Well, how easy is to fool audiences by lip syncing in front of thousands of audiences live? Well, it might be easy but not in front of crores of audiences watching them on TV.

Well, I first noticed Abhijeet Sawant doing the same in his performance today. (Indian Idol 3 final) and now, these girls, that 15 year kid (I don’t remember her name), Pooja.. infact all the girls.. they are just lip syncing.. it’s so clearly visible. And that kid and Pooja lost their lines in between and the song was still going on..

Does Sony think people watching them are fools?

Prashant Tamang is the winner.

It’s spread everywhere that he is the winner. I also feel that he might be the winner as it is the trend of Indian Idol that, better singers always lose. (Remember, last year, Sandeep Acharya?).

So, in short, Amit is the better singer so he did not win. Currently the show is going on, the results are expected within half an hour. BUT the news is confirmed by Times of India

Prashant Tamang, a constable in the West Bengal Police, was on Sunday crowned Indian Idol after vanquishing his rival Amit Paul in a grand finale of the over-two month long talent hunt.

Tamang, 24, who hails from Darjeeling, has undergone a journey from being a member in the police band in Kolkata to becoming the heart throb of millions of TV viewers all over the country.

As Bollywood actor John Abraham announced Tamang the winner, the constable thanked his mother in a voice choked with emotion.

“I thank my mother, public and Bengal police for granting me the permission for participating in the show,” he said.

So in short, few more good singers wasted, and few more crores earned by channel and mobile companies.

Just like Hum Dil De Chuke’s music release, I was waiting very eagerly for this one too. Finally, it released last week, I made a point to grab the audio cd and since then, I have been listening to it, almost whole day.. haha. You must have got the idea about the review from above line. Yes, I loved it..

I don’t know whether I should praise the music director Monty Sharma or the real music director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali..

I know, I know, Sanjay is the director but I consider him as the real music director. Why? Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam - Music by Ismail Darbar - Super Hit Music, Devdas - again, Music by Ismail Darbar - Music was hit too.  Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa - Music by Ismail Darbar - worst music, flop.

The point is, Sanjay Leela Bhansali made him work the way he wanted and got the good music out of him. Same way it could have happen with Monty Sharma too but by this I don’t mean to say that these music directors are bad. But what I am trying to say is, Sanjay’s knows what exactly he wants and how he can take it out from the music directors or actors or be anyone associated with his film.

Okay, enough of praising. Let’s get back on the track.

Saawariya Songs (Track Listing):

  1. Saawariya - Shail Hada
  2. Jab Se Tere Naina - Shaan
  3. Masha Allah - Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghoshal
  4. Thode Badmash - Shreya Ghoshal
  5. Yoon Shabnami - Parthiv Gohil
  6. Daras Bina Nahin Chain - Richa Sharma, Shail Hada, Parthiv Gohil
  7. Sawar Gayi - Shreya Ghoshal
  8. Jaan-e-Jaan - Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghoshal
  9. Pari - Kunal Ganjawala
  10. Chhabeela - Alka Yagnik
  11. Saawariya Reprise - Shail Hada

First song, Saawariya by Shail Hada - excellent song, superb lyrics and specially sung very well. I was afraid that the singer might take the song on very high pitch but it was pretty much balanced.

Jab Se Tere Naina by Shaan.. this one is perfect for romantic song, specially if you want to impress you girlfriend. (It worked with mine) haha. It’s so melodious, you feel like singing out loud.. Jab se tera naina… mere naino se lage re… tab se diwana hua, sabse begana hua.. rab bhi diwana lage re…  I should stop now i guess.. haha

I think, I should just sum up the stuff rather than posting my detailed views on each songs.

Masha Allah, though it was sung by Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghosal, the whole credit goes to Kunal (Shreya has nothing much to sing in this one). Thode Badmash, superbly sung by Shreya. Yoon Shabnami was sung pretty well by Parthiv Gohil.

Daras Bina Nahin Chain, Richa Sharma is just amazing here, just superb. This can’t be called as full fledged song but it looks to be used in credits or somewhere in between some sequences. Sawar Gayi by Shreya is another exceptional song in this album. Jaan-e-Jaan sung well by Kunal and Shreya. But if we compare with other songs, it might be that good but yes, I liked it.

Pari, one more by Kunal.. no need to praise him again for his singing abilities. Nice song. Chhabeela by Alka Yagnik, reminds me of songs of era of late 90s with some better music. Good song but nothing great though. Looks like, it might be some introduction song for one of the actresses. (Rani or Sonam)

The last one, Saawariya Reprise is kind of unplugged (or live) version of the song Saawariya. I personally felt Shail went bit over the board in the beginning but things got balanced once the actual song started.

So, overall, I would rate this album Rating: ★★★★☆ The songs might not appeal the masses in the beginning but it is like, more we listen.. more we like. I don’t know about others but I have felt in love with this masterpiece and that is what made me write music review after a long time. :)

I don’t know whether something is wrong with me or with the movie reviewers. I checked reviews of this movie on Rediff and couple of other sites, everyone rated it like 3 - 3.5.  But again, I do not agree with the reviews. And for a change, I agree with the review of Taran Adarsh (Yea, yea, I know, we all hate his reviews but this is an exceptional case)

The story is pretty much complicated, so let me see how I can explain in few lines. (I don’t believe in long narrations of the story)

OK..

Satyaveer (Abhay Deol), a fired junior engineer and writer of the (detective / fiction) book Manorama (which was a big flop) gets a strange assignment of spying on politician Minister P.P. Rathore (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), the job was given by politician’s wife Manorama (Sarika) but things take U turn when Satyaveer finds that Manorama is not wife of Rathore but she is someone else. Now, Manorama dies in an accident (it was declared as suicide) But Satyaveer does not believe this and goes on a mission to solve the mystery of Manorama’s death.

If you would have asked me to narrate the whole story, then I would have definitely got confused after this point. There are lots of twists and turns in the movie which will leave you with many questions. Infact the ending of the movie was pretty much confusing.

The movie might be good for awards or may be directors but for people like you and me, I don’t think so it was anything more than a confused story.

Apart from the story and and it’s execution, one more bad thing was, editing. I found the movie very slow paced, infact we were dying for the interval. (I could hear something clapping when it showed Interval on the screen haha)

To sum it up, on the acting front, Abhay Deol was good, Vinay Pathak was impressive in few scenes (specially in the first half). Gul Panag perfectly fitted well in the character of middle class housewife. Raima sen looked more sexier in Saree haha (Nothing great in the acting though).

Overall, I would rate this movie Rating: ★★☆☆☆ I don’t see this movie doing any good business at box office.

After reading good reviews on the net, I finally decided to watch the movie. Most of the sites were like 3 - 3.5 out of 5 for this movie. But I still wonder what was there in the movie which made them give it 3 stars? Believe me or not, we left the movie well, before the ending.

The movie is remake of some flop old Hindi movie. It is about 4 friends who are looking out for a rich girl to marry, so that they can spend their whole live lavishly, without doing any hard work. They finally find the girl but now, there is some murder mystery involved in it.. so the comedy track changes to suspense and comedy comes back in the end. (Like typical Priyadarshan movies)

Okay, now the first half, 4 jokers.. Tushar Karpoor, Kunal Khemu, Sharman Joshi and Rajpal Yadav try to make you laugh by using some typical Priyadarshan dialogues and doing some stupid things. Actually, few scenes actually make you laugh too but majority of them just left our faces blank. There were few unwanted scenes in the first half. (e.g. the track of Sharman’s poor friend becoming rich by getting married to rich girl - they wasted quite some time with that track)

The 2nd half.. I watched approximately 75% of it or so.. it suddenly turned to suspense from comedy. They had added some comedy too but it was not managed properly. The worst scene was, when these 4 guys were beaten up by goons, Rajpal yadav suddenly comes in his funny avatar, some funny dialogues take place, people are laughing and suddenly, emotional background score starts.. so people were like confused, whether to laugh or cry haha..

Okay, let’s sum the things up.

On the story front, it was all like “I have already seen it” kind of stuff.. nothing new, same old story and crap. On the acting front, leaving few scenes apart, it all sucked. Rajpal Yadav was pretty good, compared to others. Tanushri Datta seriously needs to lose some pounds and get back to her feminine avatar. Currently she looks more like a macho man.

Music, was pretty much bad (except the title song).

So overall, it was another piece of crap and my first movie in 2007, which I had to leave before it ends. (Last year there were, Tom Dick and Harry, Anwar, Family to name few)

I would rate this movie Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Stay away from it.
