Just got a copy of COD4 today from Planet M (had to wait for a week for it to arrive). I must say, it is totally over my expectations.. just amazing game.. superb graphics and it is certainly not to be missed..

I won’t be able to write much about it as I don’t want to lose opportunity of playing COD4.. (Switched on my Xbox console after almost a month)

AAMIR YOU ROCK!! AAMIR YOU ROCK!!

Need to say more? No, let me directly move to the story..

Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) is an eight-year-old whose world is filled with wonders that no one else seems to appreciate; colours, fish, dogs and kites are just not important in the world of adults, who are much more interested in things like homework, marks and neatness. And Ishaan just cannot seem to get anything right in class.

When he gets into far more trouble than his parents can handle, he is packed off to a boarding school to ‘be disciplined’. Things are no different at his new school, and Ishaan has to contend with the added trauma of separation from his family.

One day a new art teacher bursts onto the scene, Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan), who infects the students with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of ‘how things are done’ by asking them to think, dream and imagine, and all the children respond with enthusiasm, all except Ishaan. Nikumbh soon realizes that Ishaan is very unhappy, and he sets out to discover why. With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself..

Synopsis taken from Wikipedia

I am sorry, could not write the story on my own as I am more excited about the review…

The movie was just amazing and flawless… (Yea, I know there was one in the 2nd half but I am ignoring it). Aamir is always known for perfection in his movies.. (we have seen it in Lagaan) and this one is no different.. I know it is first movie of Aamir as director but his direction was much better than many experienced directors. He knows how to extract skills from actors, the kid, Darsheel, the real hero of the movie, he acted so well, his expressions will make anyone in tears.. you feel the pain when the kid cries alone in the bathroom..you feel the pain when the kid is left alone in the hostel.. just amazing.

The first half of the movie is almost without Aamir Khan (he enters just before the interval), Darsheel carried first half on his shoulders and making sure that no one dares to move from their seats.

Aamir joins him in the 2nd half but this kid simply overshadows him, it was more like kid telling Aamir “Hey, you!! you better direct the movie, i will handle the things on the acting front” And it actually was like that.

The 2nd half was lot more emotional compared to first half. The movie had many touching scenes which created an impact on everyone’s heart. Few of these scenes include, Ishaan’s first day in the hostel where he misses his mother a lot and cries all alone in the bathroom.. (it was a brave one), another great scene was his first day in the Hindi classroom where he explains the actual meaning of the poetry but the teacher could not understand it. Another great scene was towards the ending in the painting competition, it was between Ram and Ishaan, no words exchanged, only expressions and those expression said it all..

I guess, I should stop now and sum up the things.

On the acting front, Darsheel succeeds in winning our hearts, surely an award winning performance. I want to see him nominated in Best Actors’ award category. Aamir was great in the supporting actor’s role too. Other actors were also good.

On the direction front, Aamir surely deserves an award for direction. I want to see him in Best Director’s nomination. (And I am sure he will be there)

Music was excellent, Title song was very touching, even Maa was very touching, Kholo Kholo was great mix of rock and pop. Mera Jahaan was also equally impressive. Infact, all the songs were just perfect for the movie. Impressive lyrics by Parsoon Joshi too.

So, the rating? Not even a single star less than 5 Rating: ★★★★★ A must watch movie, I am gonna watch it again with my girl and I am gonna buy the DVD too.

On the box office front, I am hoping for the blockbuster status (I have seen the people’s reaction, none of them left the theatre before ending and many, many waited until the credits were over). Also, this one stands chances for getting into Tax Free status as this passes a strong message for every parent.

Lastly, AAMIR YOU ROCK!! THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THIS WONDERFUL GIFT.

When there is Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor.. you expect a really good comedy movie and I am no exception in it. I went for the movie with a great hope and was expecting something like No Entry (Previous movie of the same director - Anees Bazmee) but sadly the movie was nowhere near No Entry. Let’s walk through the story line.

The story is bit complicated, actually it’s been ripped from the English movie, Mickey Blue Eyes. Rajiv (Akshay Kumar) falls in love with Sanjana (Katrina Kaif), sister of the gangster Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar). But Rajiv’s uncle Dr. Ghungru (Paresh Rawal) wants Rajiv to get married in a family who is far away from the criminal background. What will Rajiv and Sanjana do now? Rest is to watch..

I have tried to make things simpler but if you wish to know the story in detail, check it out on Wikipedia.

Okay, now the review time.

The movie was kind of mix of comedy and boring stuff. There were many hilarious scenes but many unnecessary scenes (e.g. april fool sponsored thingy in first half), songs made things worse. The first half of the movie looked like it had been shot ages back and I was still waiting for love story between Rajiv and Sanjana to start but it didn’t take off even after their engagement, no chemistry between them at all. 2ndly no bond between Sanjana and Uday Shetty, though Uday was running around in first half to find a groom for her sister but not even a single scene had shown brother and sister together. It was more like every actor had their parts to act, they did shot them in various portions, sang few songs together, editor (or whoever is the technical person) clubbed them all together and made the movie.

The 2nd half was equally bad, stuffed with unnecessary scenes and really bad songs. Music was simply pathetic. We were waiting for the songs to get over. The ending death scene was hilarious but instead of ending the movie right there, the director decided to stretch it and end the movie in a super boring manner.

Apart from the bad music, bad direction, it seems the editor was not paid enough, very poor editing job. In first half, few scenes were chopped off without even caring about finishing them off. (e.g The car scene of Akshay, Paresh and others)

But but but, the movie had good parts too, actually, the comedy was at its best. Even though many of the scenes were totally illogical but they were just way too funny. Some of the best scenes of the movie would be, the death scene in the end, the car scene in the first half etc..

Okay, to sum the things up, on the acting front, Akshay was OK, nothing great or different. Paresh Rawal was good like always. Nana Patekar was superb, Anil Kapoor was great too. (Don’t miss his painting scenes), Katrina was more like a doll with very low scope for the acting. Firoz Khan did not impress me much. Mallika Sherawat was surprisingly good. Other side kicks were ok. Music was P A T H E T I C. Direction was not that impressive (only comedy scenes were handled well). Editing was bad.

So overall, I would rate this movie Rating: ★★☆☆☆ The movie stands good chances on the box office as it is Akshay Kumar starrer (just like SRK, he can carry any bad movie on his shoulders and change the scenario). We have seen that in in Hey Baby.

If you ask me, I would say, wait for the DVD, don’t bother spending 200 bucks on the ticket.
