I am not sure what’s wrong with Akshay Kumar these days, he seems to be picking the movies very carefully these days.. No, I am not talking about the good ones..
De Dana Dan is another example of one of those bad picks of Akshay Kumar.. no doubt, the movie had funny scenes but what about the story? and the logic?
Well.. let me give some idea about the story..
A guy working as a servant in love with a rich girl, another guy working as a courier boy also in love with another rich girl.. rich fathers decide to get their daughters married off to some other guys, the poor guys need money, they plan to kidnap a dog of servant’s boss but the plan doesn’t work and things get messier and funnier…
Yes, the story / plot is most pathetic.. totally unrealistic, totally illogical and totally not so funny but there are few scenes which try to save the movie.. and to some extent it works too but again, the poor characterization, poor script and very very bad editing & music messed up the things.. even some of the funny scenes were lifted from other movies..
The story was supposed to revolve around the main plot of kidnapping and getting money but in between this, so many other characters were introduced and you end up thinking, what is the movie about.. is it about kidnapping, is it about poor – rich romance, is it about a fraud guy trying to get his son married to a rich girl or something else..
Yes, I agree that there were many funny scenes but that doesn’t work when the main pillar of the building is weak.. Also, the editing was at its worst.. I noticed many scenes were cut abruptly.. couple of them in the very beginning (Katrina – Akshay & Katrina’s dad slapping scene), they even managed to mess up the climax by showing some kind of mini tsunami in the hotel.. I am sorry but it didn’t work for me.. I found it very boring..
Apart from this, the movie was also stuffed with the very bad & pathetic songs… I was praying all the time saying there shouldn’t be any more songs.. but my prayers went unheard..
On the acting front, actually none of the lead actors got chance to prove themselves.. Akshay Kumar was as usual.. Katrina & Sameera didn’t have anything to do.. Suniel Shetty was finally managed to get rid of this “english” accent.. so +1 for that.. Others actors like Paresh Rawal, Vikram Gokhale, Chanky Pandey were wasted.. Asrani was decent, I was expecting more of him actually.. Rajpal Yadav was not fully utilized.. but I personally found, Jhonny Lever fantastic.. really enjoyed his act, and Tinu Anand was funny to some extent.. But apart from this, rest of the actors didn’t deserve any mention..
So, overall, the movie was a total mess with few very funny moments.. I would rate this movie Rating:

The 2 stars goes to those funny scenes.. If given a choice, I would wait for the movie to be released on the TV, rather than spending any money on it…
On the box office front, there are chances that the movie might do well, as we have already seen in the past, these kind of movies doing very well at the box office.. so you never know, this one might just work as well..
It started on 261108.. 60 hours of terror, Mumbai turned into a slaughter house with few kids roaming around with the guns in their hand, showering bullets like never before.. The government finally woke up from the sleep, policemen tried to handle the terror but they lost 3 important policemen in it, army, navy and NSG commandos handled the situation and made sure that people are safe.. the terror finally came to an end..
Mumbaikars started protesting.. they flooded Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Inboxes with 26/11 messages.. candles, peace march, voting campaigns.. what not..
Kasab.. enjoys the free food…
The politicians, finally started appearing on the TV screens, started giving interviews.. started putting the hoardings, started making the promises.. the government changed the CM, Deputy CM and made sure that strict action will be taken against the terrorist, new defense team will be provided to Mumbai and other important cities..
Kasab.. enjoys the free food…
At this point, people still have 26/11 in mind, they are still busy with the voting campaigns..
Time for the elections… lowest voter turnout.. people preferred to enjoy the weekend holiday than voting.. the same government is back..
Kasab.. enjoys the free food…
People forget 26/11.. people are now more busy with Marathi, Bihari.. Maharashtra pride, Shivaji statue, Bombay – Mumbai…
Kasab.. enjoys the free food…
Time for the assembly elections.. again, this time too.. lower voter turnout.. the same government is back again.. the party which people hated most has is dancing in joy and proud..
No mention of 26/11 anywhere.. no progress report on steps taken to prevent such terror attacks again.. we are still busy with Marathi and Bihari issue..
Kasab.. enjoys the free food…
The 26/11 anniversary is just around the corner.. people start remembering the terror attacks suddenly.. the media is back in full swing.. political parties are back in action again.. police realize that the faulty bulletproof jacket which Hemant Karkare was wearing, is actually lost.. they lost it when he was being moved to the hospital.. (Very hard to digest though…)
Few companies and news channels have started making mockery of 26/11 by organizing some kind of so called “charity programs”…
And finally today, the first anniversary of 26/11 attacks.. let’s see what we have achieved so far..
- Mumbai finally has a defense force.. Force One..
- No one is still sure about the security of Malls and other public places.. it’s still VERY easy to fool them..
- Our policemen still doesn’t have enough arms and ammunitions
- Our policemen are still unfit and corrupt
- Our policemen still can’t control local goons.. forget about the terror attacks..
- Media is still using the same old line “Spirit of Mumbai"
- Mumbaikar is still afraid of another 26/11..
- AND Kasab is still enjoying his free food.. he is still laughing at our judiciary system..
26-11-2010
- The security at malls and public places is still the same…
- Our policemen are still in the same condition..
- Media is trying to find new ways to make money.. to get more eyeballs… Spirit of Mumbai is no more helping…
- Mumbaikar is still the same.. afraid of the attacks, afraid of the politicians.. afraid of the policemen.. afraid of the whole bloody system..
- But Kasab is still laughing and enjoying his free food..
And the cycle continues..
Well.. I am kind of back with the movie reviews, after a long time.. Well, hell with it.. let’s talk about the movie..
Just returned from the paid preview show.. was shocked to see the empty theatre, hardly 20 – 25% of the seats were taken.. but I don’t blame this on the movie, it was mainly because, no one knew, there are going to be preview shows too..
So.. what’s the movie about? Well, as you can see in the trailers, the movie revolves around the terrorists and a common man… how terrorists “use” a common man to achieve their goal..
Avantika (Kareena Kapoor), a professor in Delhi university falls in love with another professor, Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan), – or I should say, Ehsaan makes her fall in love with him - they both move to New York (as she got a call back from the university she was teaching, she accepts the offer..), both enjoy their married life and live happily.. BUT, the movie doesn’t end here.. few things happening around her changes her whole life into hell.. What happened and how happened, is something for you to find out.. I aint gonna tell
The story is nothing great to be frank, the movie gets way too predictable in the end of the first half.. The movie also raised many questions.. I still couldn’t digest the fact of forgetting the number 911.. How can you not dial 911 when you are in trouble? (Yeah, even when you have access to the phone) Also, the journalist “hero”, instead of taking help of FBI, he tries to prove himself a real hero and joins terrorists to find out their mission and the plans.. and what was the end result? bloody blasts.. which could have been avoided if he would have acted smart.. actually, I should say, the movie guys wanted the character to act smart.. There were few more unanswered questions.. like what did Riyaz’s (Vivek Oberoi) dad meant to say in the beginning (there was no link of what he said at all), how did Ehsaan managed to get away so easily during the shootout (When his other partner shot at the police).. these are just few of them..
Now, on the acting front, Kareena Kapoor was the best.. she acted very well, Saif was pretty good too but nothing so impressive.. the worst part was, Vivek Oberoi.. guys.. why in the world you had to make him act “cute” and make him show off his funny “We are Americans” accent? It sucks big time.. Kirron Kher was pretty decent, Om Puri was normal.. rest of the actors did their job pretty good.. really loved Dia Mirza.. she is super cute and super HOT.. I don’t know how she manages to look cute and hot both at the same time.. haha (No, I am not going more into that)
On the music front, I really loved the music.. Salim Sulaiman did a very good job with the music.. specially Ali Maula & Rasiya…
On the direction front, Rensil D’silva was pretty much okay but the the sad part was, he let so many flaws to roam around.. I think the movie was bit lengthy, felt 2nd half was bit stretched..
So overall, the movie was strictly OK, very much low on the expectations, but you can surely watch it once in a theatre.. I would rate it Rating:

On the box office front, I think it should atleast get the money back (by looking at the promotions)…
Thanks Megha, for being with me all the time.. in my ups and downs.. Thanks for being always supportive, Thanks for being always ready to accept each and every situation.. I just don’t have enough words..
This one goes for you…
Kaise mujhe tum mil gayi,
Kismat pe aaye naa yaakeen,
Utar aayi jheel mein jaise chand utarta hai kabhi,
Haule haule dheere se,
Gunguni dhoop ki tarah se taranum mein tum,
Choo ke mujhe guzari hu yu,
Dekhu tumhe ya mein sunu,
Tum ho sukoon, tum ho junoon,
Kyu pehle naa aayi tum?
Kaise mujhe tum mil gayi..
Kismat pe aaye naa yaakeen..
Thanks for being part of my life..
Lots of Love,
Deep
