I will agree, following such small issues don't matter as much, as much we need to fix bigger problems. Just came back paying BSNL bills, looking at the rush & crowd i think the biggest problem India has is population, may be corruption is close second.

Everywhere you go you see people, lots of them. Every sort & scale of effort be it govt or individual effort is so hard to implement for such a big pool of people. Developed countries are so blessed in that aspect, plus they learnt to make fewer babies years ago, and everyone doesn't have to marry & reproduce as we are forced to here.

Aagar mujhe shadi nahin karna hai toh leave me alone na, but no, family, friends, relatives all will make it their sole goal of life & will not rest until you get married & are blessed with kids enough to have your own home based cricket team.

Still holding on hope for things to improve[slowly], doing whatever possible with own abilities :)

A fair point. First of all I submit that to whatever drive some people start, 90% among the followers are not giving even an iota of the thought to "Why should I follow this."

Now coming to the first issue in your post, I would emphasis that there are some concrete reasons we should celebrate the Earth Hour every year.

1. The celebration of earth hour is to put the thought in one's mind that we should not only save the electricity but should make all efforts to protect (or rather not to spoil) the environment. It psychologically implants a thought in one's mind (if one follows it after understanding its cause) that it should be the practice woven in our daily life to help environment. There is no less than 100% truth in the advocacy that if we do not stop spoiling the environment, the future generations will suffer a lot and there is a greater probability that the cycle of global warming and the ice age will become speedy.

2. One should not forget that the global warming and the Ice age are the two states of the earth occurring in a cycle without fail, but the way we are exploiting the resources will make the cycle speedy; nothing more nothing less.

3. I am sure the above first point also addresses to the argument why, in India, we should observe the Earth hour when we are deprived of sufficient supply of the electricity. It is just like, we eat the cake every other day but the cake of our own birthday has some special value. Just like that earth hour is a process to send a signal to our mind that we should live in an environment friendly way.

The above three points are meaningful if and only if we join the earth hour after understanding it and not simply follow it blindly like we rush to Saibaba every Thursday, Sanishwar every Saturday.

Love,
