Kambakht Ishq Movie Review..

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it that it’s gonna be Tashan Part II. But I never knew that after watching the movie, I would feel that Tashan was actually a better movie than Kambakht Ishq. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I hereby announce Kambakht Ishq as this year’s worst movie.. It left Chandni Chowk to China thousands of miles away…

So, let’s quickly move to the story.. Story? haha you must be kidding.. but still, let me try.. A guy and girl, who hate each other very much but eventually they end up falling in love with each other and get married..

Now, to cook up this 1 sentence story, they brought in Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richard, the great Javed Jafri (no I am not serious), Kirron Kher and the producer had some extra money in pocket, so they roped in non actors, Aftab Shivdasani & Amrita Rao too…

So, now what, they had some more extra money.. so they thought we can bring in Annu Maleeeeek (I am sorry about the spelling, he keeps changing it every now and then, I hope that’s the latest spelling) and Annu bhaiya ne de daala super duper music.

Okay now what else? Some funny stupid kissing scenes, some so called “stunts”, some pathetic plot where the lead actress, who happens to be a doctor, leaves her watch in the stomach of the lead actor (while operation) (and then the watch beeps in “om mangalayshloka every hour.. oh damn, what the hell is this..), so the lead actress tries every other possible thing to get the watch back and make sure that the lead actor doesn’t know about it and do not file any case against her.. but this so called “meri ghadi sirf meri hai” process ends up making both fall in love with each other and all that crap..

Each and every scene in the movie is predictable, infact, from the start of the movie, you can easily predict what’s gonna happen in the end..

The actors were forcing themselves to make everyone laugh, they succeeded in couple of scenes too but they failed miserably in other scenes.. Kareena Kapoor thought, her skin show would attract some eyebrows but she forgot, she was supposed to act too.. I have no idea what was Javed Jafri doing in the movie.. same for Kirron Kher.. she is such a good actress..

And why the hell there was need for Sylvester Stallone? Just to make him say Kambakht Ishq in Hindi? Even role of Denise Richard was a big joke..

In short, these guys had pockets full of money, so they decided to cast all good actors and asked them to act their worst.. and even these actors didn’t bother to read the script before signing the movie..

Pathetic, bakwaas movie.. don’t bother watching the movie.. If you really want to waste your time.. watch Tashan instead.. atleast it has some better songs..

Are you still expecting the rating from me? Hell no.. I want my money back first.. PATHETIC MOVIE..

New York Movie Review

It’s been a long long time since I have been to a theatre and watched a Hindi movie.. Yeah, strike was one of the reasons but frankly speaking, the main reason according to me was, there were no movies worth going for.. But finally the wait is over and this movie might just break the chain of flop movies..

As shown in the promos, the movie has a plot roaming around the shadows of 9/11 attacks happened in New York. 3 very good friends (Omar – Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sam – John Abraham & Maya – Katrina Kaif), Sam & Maya get married and Omar loses touch with both of them as he moves to some other place. But suddenly, the FBI detains Omar claiming that he is part of the terror group. But the purpose of detaining him to find solid evidence against his friend Sam, who according to FBI is heading a terror group. FBI forces Omar to befriends with Sam & Maya and stay with them for sometime, so that they can trace activities of Sam. But Omar does not believe that Sam is a terrorist, he goes on a journey to prove that his friend and himself both are innocent.

Overall, I really liked the movie, the story, it was pretty much strong, for a change the movie did not have any unnecessary songs and unwanted scenes.. perfect direction and editing, except for that “kind of” love making scene between Sam & Maya, it could have been snipped easily, it wasn’t required according to me.

What I liked about the movie was, it tries to shows one of the reasons for some of the guys taking the path of terrorism, it shows how FBI deals with innocent people etc.. But at the same time, I did not find ending of the movie proper, something was lacking, raised few questions.

On the acting front, all the actors did their job pretty well, Katrina Kaif is growing movie by movie.. and on the top of it she looked very cute too.. Really liked the character of Sam i.e. John Abraham.. nicely played.. Neil Nitin Mukesh was pretty impressive.. Irfan Khan was pretty decent, he didn’t have anything much to do, he just played what he was asked for.. nothing exceptional.. nothing to show his actual acting skills..

On the music front.. I don’t think anything was original.. the music was good but nothing original.. it sounded like copied partly from his previous movies and the main song (Hai Junoon) from an Indonesian song. Cinematography was pretty good..

So, overall, the movie was very good, I would rate it Rating: ★★★½☆ It is definitely worth a watch.. Go for it..

On the box office front, I think it should do fairly well as there are no good movies around.. and this one was pretty good one too..

Delhi 6 Movie Review

Great music, great director, pretty good actors.. and you start expecting a lot from the movie. Specially, when the same director had given a fantastic film like Rang De Basanti. You go for the movie with high hopes but as the story moves ahead, you start realizing that the grapes are sour..200px-Delhi-6

To be frank, I seriously have no idea what was the story about.. till the last 5 minutes, I could not understand the purpose of the movie… was it about life of people in Delhi 6, was it about a grandson bringing his  ailing(?)grandmother to Delhi (from US), so that she can die in peace? or it was about a guy from US falling in love with girl from Delhi 6, or it was about Hindu – Muslims or it was about Kala Bandar (Monkey Man)

I am sorry guys, but this time, I failed to understand the story..actually failed to understand the purpose of whole movie…

The movie was like a bumpy ride, it was smooth for sometime, again became unstable.. we suddenly get lost and it comes back again to the track but again loses track.. and this continues till the end..

The first half started pretty well but few songs were stuffed in without reason.. though the songs were superb but I felt there was no reason for those songs to be added.. (e.g. Arziyan, Dil Gira Dafatan) also, I felt, some of the scenes were badly handled.. e.g. the scene where Roshan’s (Abhishek Bachchan) grandmother (Waheeda Rahman) gets unconscious.. they tried to make serious scene bit funny but it didn’t work for me..

2nd half was pretty much bad.. though there were no flaws as such but I was just waiting for the story to start, I wasn’t expecting Delhi darshan like 1st half, in the 2nd half too there were many silly things happening, actually in some of the scenes you feel like screaming “WTF is happening??”

On the acting front, I felt, there was royal waste of good actors.. Waheeda Rahman was very good, so were Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. But Rishi Kapoor was royally wasted, why he was needed? What did he do? He just appeared for around 10 minutes total? Wasted..

Apart from these actors, few other actors did very well in their small role.. the list includes, Atul Kulkarni as Gobar, Deepak Dobriyal as Mamdu, Vijay Raaz as Inspector Ranvijay Thakur, Cyrus Sahukar as Suresh, Pavan Malhotra as Jai Gopal and Om Puri as Madangopal.

To sum it up, I felt, the director was really confused about the movie, may be he got too deep into the movie and just got lost.. I think the movie needed Aamir Khan.. he could have turned this to another good movie… Aamir is perfectionist… but again, sadly, the role wouldn’t have suited him.. so, there was no other way..

Music was superb.. masterpiece.. A R Rahman knows how to make people dance on song like Genda Phool and Kala Bandar.. he is real genius..

So, overall, the movie wasn’t something which impressed me.. I would rate it Rating: ★★½☆☆ Really disappointed  with this time..

Dev D Movie Review

Well.. after No Smoking, I had almost lost the hopes from Anurag Kashyap movies.. Yeah.. yeah.. I know.. there were few who loved No Smoking and loved his style of film making.. but I was not one of them.. I am a common man, who loves to watch movies and enjoy them..

Okay, so coming back to Dev D, The music was what excited me most.. and 2nd one was Abhay Deol, this guy never acts in crap movies.. (Till now, he hasn’t), so I was kind of sure, if Abhay Deol is in it, the movie has to be something good.. I had basic idea about the plot, i.e. based on Devdas..

And yea, it is actually based on Devdas… it is Devdas but a modern version of it, told in different style.. wicked, weird style.. but at the same time, very interesting too.. I have no idea why, Taran Adarsh was expecting this movie to be faithful to the novel, Devdas. He even tried to compare with other old Devdas movies.. I mean, dude.. grow up.. new generation? Not typical love story movie?

Okay, not going to waste much of the time, the story is very simple.. A guy, in love with his childhood friend but could not get married due to misunderstandings or ego or whatever reasons you may call it.. the guy goes deep into drugs, alcohol and prostitutes.. and there comes our Chanda.. but is he in love with Chanda or still in love with his childhood friend Paro? Well.. no prizes for guessing but still, you have to watch the movie for that.. haha

So, what’s the deal with the movie? It’s a crazy movie with super funny dialogues but at the same time, the movie does not become a comedy movie.. it balances out well between comedy, drama, love and masala..

I remember, when I had gone for Sivaji, people started whistling and cheering for Rajnikanth and this was my 2nd experience after that.. here comes Abhay Deol and few guys from behind started whistling.. I have no idea if they were straights or not.. haha but 2nd shock was the claps for those funny dialogues.. and then people started singing Emotional Atyachar (when it was played).. damn, it was crazy.. this same parade continued till the end.. I mean, come on, you get to hear these kind of things in SRK movies or say Akshay Kumar to some extent but, here, the whole scenario is changed.. nor the movie is big budget.. nor it has big stars.. only one kind of well know guy and that’s it.. but it had rocking music and great masala content.. that’s it… and people got what they wanted..

It was time when, people used to stay away from these kind of movies.. but now, the shows are jam packed.. really impressive..

I guess, I should stop praising the movie and concentrate more on the review..

Okay, back to the review now..

First half of the movie was very well done.. the whole Paro – Dev story was superb.. it explored all the characters very well.. the 2nd half started pretty well, 2nd phase of Dev’s character was explored very well, in many scenes you will feel like “&%#% off dude, get back to your life…” liked the Chanda’s character..

But somewhere in the middle of the 2nd half, I felt, things slowed down a bit (after the accident thing – the ones who have watched the movie will be aware about it –), at this stage, I felt, the movie is being dragged unnecessarily.. but it wasn’t like, you start yawing.. but yea, it was slow..

The movie, had many bizarre things.. I have no idea if these kind of things happen in real or not though.. mostly in 2nd half.. the 3 guys coming on the screen all the time, singing songs, dancing, Chanda applying some funny makeup on Dev etc.. it was very weird but good, different..

On the acting front, Abhay Deol rocked.. no words.. he simply rocked.. Mahi Gill as Paro, was good at her part.. Kalki as Chanda was impressive.. but it is Abhay Deol who steals the show…

Amit Trivedi’s music was very impressive.. (had liked his music in Aamir too), few notable songs include, Emotional Atyachar (Rock version too), Paayaliya, Nayan Tarse, Pardesi & Aankh Micholi.

Anurag Kashyap rocked this time, though 2nd half needed some re-work but I really loved his different style of directing the movie.. this time he did not go too far (like he did in No Smoking).

In short, a very good movie.. though it might not be liked by people in single screens but definitely a worth watch.. I would give it Rating: ★★★☆☆. Go book the tickets.. (I am going for it for the 2nd time on Sunday)

Luck by Chance Movie Review

The promos did not impress me much but I was kind of curious to know what could be the story.. the music is still set on repeat on my iPod. So, overall, mixed feelings for the movie.. not sure how it would be even though music was impressive. So, without thinking much, decided to take out sometime and went for the movie.. and I must say, it was worth the time…

Okay, so the story / plot or whatever it’s called.

It’s pretty simple, a guy trying his luck in the movies, a girl trying for 3 years, doing sidekick roles.. hoping to get chance to do a major role. (Her producer friend had promised her) The guy’s luck strikes.. girl remains there.. the guy becomes a changed man.. rest is to watch..

No, it does not have bollywood masala stuff for a change.. so the story is not something what you are currently thinking..

Okay, the review time..

To be frank, I pretty much liked the first half than the 2nd one.. actually, somewhere in the middle of the 2nd part, it started getting boring, it was about to become one of those bollywood movies but the script took a decent turn and did not let it fall into the category of those bollywood movies..

The movie had quite a few “stars” in it.. Hritik Roshan had a larger role compared to others though.. but it was not something which I would remember.. at the same time, Shahrukh Khan had just 2 min role but it was something which everyone will never forget.. this guy makes a difference.. actually he does…. Aamir Khan came in, no voices from the public, same for Hritik and array of other stars… but once Shahrukh Khan came in, I could hear the cheer in the crowd.. don’t know what’s with him.. he makes people go mad… great person & actor…

Okay.. so back to the review..

On the acting front, everyone was perfect.. I really like Rishi Kapoor, he was loud.. but he was good.. infact, pretty good, Juhi Chawla was loud too but she was good at it.. Dimple was decent enough.. Sanjay Kapoor was good, I think this movie can be one of his best movies till now.. (or may be the only best one haha)

Oh damn, I forgot the lead actors.. haha

Farhan Akhtar was pretty good, very promising infact.. perfect.. Konkana Sensharma was good too but she was sad.. (I know, the role demanded it but somehow didn’t click much) The surprise package was Isha Sharvani, I never knew she could act.. she had some very good funny moments in the plate.. and Yea, she looked gorgeous too..

So I guess, all the actors are covered.. direction was pretty good but as mentioned earlier, somewhere in the 2nd half, I found the strings bit loose but doesn’t matter, rest of the movie was handled pretty well..

The music was really good, infact loved all the songs..

So, overall, the movie was very good.. I would rate it Rating: ★★★½☆ It is surely a paisa vasool movie and worth watching in the theatre.

On the box office front, I guess.. good reviews should help it..
