Kaminey Movie Review (Really short one)

Sorry guys, this post is gonna be really short one, I am running outa time here and I am sure there are atleast few people around waiting for my review to be up.. haha So, this one is for them.. (Damn, why the theaters were shut in Mumbai over the weekend)

Okay…

The movie started very well, the first half was very impressive.. really loved the way characterization was done for both the characters.. (Both characters of Shahid Kapur) even Priyanka Chopra’s character was very well narrated.. perfect humor.. the best part was the loo one liner… (Apna Haath.. ) haha

But somewhere in the 2nd half, I thought they lagged in between and things slowed down.. even I was expecting Charlie (Shahid Kapur) to show some of his action skills but nothing that sort of happened..  but the movie got it’s pace back towards the end.. infact, the ending was fantastic.. just superb..

On the acting front, this one is going to be best movie of Shahid Kapur so far.. I never imagined that he will be able to do such serious roles so brilliantly.. even Priyanka Chopra was very impressive.. other side actors were pretty decent.. everything was perfect except bit slow pace in start of the 2nd half..

But overall.. the movie was pretty decent.. I would rate it Rating: ★★★☆☆ It’s a must watch.. and oh yea.. these multiplexes have increased their rates by exorbitant amount… (atleast in Mumbai).. so keep some cash in your pocket.. now small pack of popcorn costs Rs. 70..

Love Aaj Kal Movie Review

Socha Na Tha, Ahista Ahista, Jab We Met & Love Aaj Kal.. so what’s common here? haha, not many know but.. the guy Imtiaz Ali, the director is the common man.. he was involved majorly in all these movies.. (As a director in all except Ahista Ahista) and I must say, whenever this guy is around, the movie has to be good.. his movies make me feel that, Yeah, there is someone who believes in a common man story, no hanky panky, no complications.. simple straightforward story told in a way which a common man understands..

Okay, so without praising the guy much, let me jump directly to the story and review..

The story is very very simple.. actually it is quite predictable too.. but then, all the love stories are predictable..

Jay (Saif Ali Khan) & Meera (Deepika Padukone) are crazy guys, they both hang out with each other but they don’t realize that they are in love.. though they are officially carrying on but they just don’t know if it’s love or not.. One fine day.. they decide to break up as Meera was moving out to India for work and Jay was not ready for the long distance relationship. (Basically they didn’t believe in long distance relationship) But they both remained in constant touch, after sometime, they both decide to find their life partners, infact, they both find too.. but now the question is, do they still love each other? Well.. it’s not so difficult to guess the other part of the story but it will be good idea to watch the movie and finding it out :)

Now, it’s time for my views..

Actually, it took me 10 – 15 minutes in the start to catch up with the pace of the movie.. it was way too fast for me.. but then I realized, it wasn’t fast.. the fast pace was needed as “how they meet each other” was not so important here.. I really liked the way Jay & Meera were portrayed but for some reason, I found something lacking in the part of Veer & Halreen Harmeet, though their part had many good scenes but somehow it just did not click much compared to Jay & Meera. (May be they tried to do things little bit in hurry there) But apart from that, everything was pretty much in good place. Well directed, well edited.. in short a well crafted movie..

Now time for the quick take on few other things. Dialogues, I think, after a long time, I have seen a movie with meaningful & funny dialogues.. I was actually fed up of those double meaning, crappy dialogues where actors force themselves to make every laugh.. (Kambakht Ishq is the best example), it was pretty natural here.. haha the break up party was pretty new concept LOL

On the acting front, Deepika Padukone rocked.. infact, she was excellent right from her first movie, Om Shanti Om.. I can see this female taking number one spot very soon.. great acting..  Saif Ali Khan was very impressive too..  Oh yea, how can I forget, Rishi Kapoor, he had a very limited role but whatever he did, he did perfectly..

On the music front, I really liked the songs. infact, I loved each and every song.. the dance numbers were, too good… (specially, Chor Bazari & Aahun Aahun)

As mentioned earlier, Direction and Editing were just perfect, just the Veer’s part should have handled in bit better way.. but never mind, it doesn’t affect he whole movie much..

So overall, I really liked the movie and I am pretty much sure that you will also like it.. I would rate it Rating: ★★★½☆ and you must watch it in theater.. book your tickets now, there are high chances of not getting the tickets..

On the box office front, I see it passing with flying colors :)

Kambakht Ishq Movie Review..

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it that it’s gonna be Tashan Part II. But I never knew that after watching the movie, I would feel that Tashan was actually a better movie than Kambakht Ishq. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I hereby announce Kambakht Ishq as this year’s worst movie.. It left Chandni Chowk to China thousands of miles away…

So, let’s quickly move to the story.. Story? haha you must be kidding.. but still, let me try.. A guy and girl, who hate each other very much but eventually they end up falling in love with each other and get married..

Now, to cook up this 1 sentence story, they brought in Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richard, the great Javed Jafri (no I am not serious), Kirron Kher and the producer had some extra money in pocket, so they roped in non actors, Aftab Shivdasani & Amrita Rao too…

So, now what, they had some more extra money.. so they thought we can bring in Annu Maleeeeek (I am sorry about the spelling, he keeps changing it every now and then, I hope that’s the latest spelling) and Annu bhaiya ne de daala super duper music.

Okay now what else? Some funny stupid kissing scenes, some so called “stunts”, some pathetic plot where the lead actress, who happens to be a doctor, leaves her watch in the stomach of the lead actor (while operation) (and then the watch beeps in “om mangalayshloka every hour.. oh damn, what the hell is this..), so the lead actress tries every other possible thing to get the watch back and make sure that the lead actor doesn’t know about it and do not file any case against her.. but this so called “meri ghadi sirf meri hai” process ends up making both fall in love with each other and all that crap..

Each and every scene in the movie is predictable, infact, from the start of the movie, you can easily predict what’s gonna happen in the end..

The actors were forcing themselves to make everyone laugh, they succeeded in couple of scenes too but they failed miserably in other scenes.. Kareena Kapoor thought, her skin show would attract some eyebrows but she forgot, she was supposed to act too.. I have no idea what was Javed Jafri doing in the movie.. same for Kirron Kher.. she is such a good actress..

And why the hell there was need for Sylvester Stallone? Just to make him say Kambakht Ishq in Hindi? Even role of Denise Richard was a big joke..

In short, these guys had pockets full of money, so they decided to cast all good actors and asked them to act their worst.. and even these actors didn’t bother to read the script before signing the movie..

Pathetic, bakwaas movie.. don’t bother watching the movie.. If you really want to waste your time.. watch Tashan instead.. atleast it has some better songs..

Are you still expecting the rating from me? Hell no.. I want my money back first.. PATHETIC MOVIE..

New York Movie Review

It’s been a long long time since I have been to a theatre and watched a Hindi movie.. Yeah, strike was one of the reasons but frankly speaking, the main reason according to me was, there were no movies worth going for.. But finally the wait is over and this movie might just break the chain of flop movies..

As shown in the promos, the movie has a plot roaming around the shadows of 9/11 attacks happened in New York. 3 very good friends (Omar – Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sam – John Abraham & Maya – Katrina Kaif), Sam & Maya get married and Omar loses touch with both of them as he moves to some other place. But suddenly, the FBI detains Omar claiming that he is part of the terror group. But the purpose of detaining him to find solid evidence against his friend Sam, who according to FBI is heading a terror group. FBI forces Omar to befriends with Sam & Maya and stay with them for sometime, so that they can trace activities of Sam. But Omar does not believe that Sam is a terrorist, he goes on a journey to prove that his friend and himself both are innocent.

Overall, I really liked the movie, the story, it was pretty much strong, for a change the movie did not have any unnecessary songs and unwanted scenes.. perfect direction and editing, except for that “kind of” love making scene between Sam & Maya, it could have been snipped easily, it wasn’t required according to me.

What I liked about the movie was, it tries to shows one of the reasons for some of the guys taking the path of terrorism, it shows how FBI deals with innocent people etc.. But at the same time, I did not find ending of the movie proper, something was lacking, raised few questions.

On the acting front, all the actors did their job pretty well, Katrina Kaif is growing movie by movie.. and on the top of it she looked very cute too.. Really liked the character of Sam i.e. John Abraham.. nicely played.. Neil Nitin Mukesh was pretty impressive.. Irfan Khan was pretty decent, he didn’t have anything much to do, he just played what he was asked for.. nothing exceptional.. nothing to show his actual acting skills..

On the music front.. I don’t think anything was original.. the music was good but nothing original.. it sounded like copied partly from his previous movies and the main song (Hai Junoon) from an Indonesian song. Cinematography was pretty good..

So, overall, the movie was very good, I would rate it Rating: ★★★½☆ It is definitely worth a watch.. Go for it..

On the box office front, I think it should do fairly well as there are no good movies around.. and this one was pretty good one too..

Delhi 6 Movie Review

Great music, great director, pretty good actors.. and you start expecting a lot from the movie. Specially, when the same director had given a fantastic film like Rang De Basanti. You go for the movie with high hopes but as the story moves ahead, you start realizing that the grapes are sour..200px-Delhi-6

To be frank, I seriously have no idea what was the story about.. till the last 5 minutes, I could not understand the purpose of the movie… was it about life of people in Delhi 6, was it about a grandson bringing his  ailing(?)grandmother to Delhi (from US), so that she can die in peace? or it was about a guy from US falling in love with girl from Delhi 6, or it was about Hindu – Muslims or it was about Kala Bandar (Monkey Man)

I am sorry guys, but this time, I failed to understand the story..actually failed to understand the purpose of whole movie…

The movie was like a bumpy ride, it was smooth for sometime, again became unstable.. we suddenly get lost and it comes back again to the track but again loses track.. and this continues till the end..

The first half started pretty well but few songs were stuffed in without reason.. though the songs were superb but I felt there was no reason for those songs to be added.. (e.g. Arziyan, Dil Gira Dafatan) also, I felt, some of the scenes were badly handled.. e.g. the scene where Roshan’s (Abhishek Bachchan) grandmother (Waheeda Rahman) gets unconscious.. they tried to make serious scene bit funny but it didn’t work for me..

2nd half was pretty much bad.. though there were no flaws as such but I was just waiting for the story to start, I wasn’t expecting Delhi darshan like 1st half, in the 2nd half too there were many silly things happening, actually in some of the scenes you feel like screaming “WTF is happening??”

On the acting front, I felt, there was royal waste of good actors.. Waheeda Rahman was very good, so were Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. But Rishi Kapoor was royally wasted, why he was needed? What did he do? He just appeared for around 10 minutes total? Wasted..

Apart from these actors, few other actors did very well in their small role.. the list includes, Atul Kulkarni as Gobar, Deepak Dobriyal as Mamdu, Vijay Raaz as Inspector Ranvijay Thakur, Cyrus Sahukar as Suresh, Pavan Malhotra as Jai Gopal and Om Puri as Madangopal.

To sum it up, I felt, the director was really confused about the movie, may be he got too deep into the movie and just got lost.. I think the movie needed Aamir Khan.. he could have turned this to another good movie… Aamir is perfectionist… but again, sadly, the role wouldn’t have suited him.. so, there was no other way..

Music was superb.. masterpiece.. A R Rahman knows how to make people dance on song like Genda Phool and Kala Bandar.. he is real genius..

So, overall, the movie wasn’t something which impressed me.. I would rate it Rating: ★★½☆☆ Really disappointed  with this time..
