Well, I just watched the video of Dev Anand’s new movie Mr. Prime Minister. Can you believe it? The man himself sings and that too rap song though I have no idea why it’s called as rap song…English rap…
I had read in one interview of his that, he is expecting this song to be a major hit and he himself has penned it…but the truth is…the song sucks big times and in whole song I was trying to find the so called “English rap” in the song…It was more like a person documenting things with some background music..
The video shows, Dev Anand singing in front of the crowd, singing at gateway of India, singing in Disco…teenagers dancing on his tunes in the Disco, girls gathered around him to shake hands with him, news reporters ready with their guns (camera and mic)….
I seriously do not understand why such a legend is wasting so much time in singing such songs and even making these kind of movies and generating useless hype…
He should think a lot before making these kind of movies and songs…
if i m right…….. dev is the PM??? and he is in disco… lol
ya some opinion from me. dev anand saheb is loosing his credibility that he has got over the years with such songs and films.
they should have named it english crap rather than rap or it cud have been rape of music i guess he is really hell bent on the evergreen idea
DevAnand’s unique way of doing things is making him lose his credibility and respect among the people.Or may be DevAnand has tried to take a cue from Abhishek Bachan’s rap song in Bluffmaster.
i think he ook a cue from Big B’s Bunty Babli Rap since that song is coming for quite some time now
well, whatever it maybe , I for always have concluded that he had such an ego that makes him believe that he’s different & unique & trend setter, well, that just made me wonder what wierd stuff he might come up with next!! Even his tilted neck & swagger style of talking wasn’t unique or his own, that he lifted from an old Hollywood actor(can’t recall the name right now, saw that in a documentary). 🙄
as for the rape of the song, err. I mean rap song, well, I’ll reserve my judgement till I hear it but I doubt it’ll be worth it. I think he might do well to get out & buy some real Rap songs!! 😉
and he’ll ofcourse predict that the song will be a huge hit, a boxoffice rocker!! whenever a film-maker or music-director or singer has said that his stuff is cheap & lousy, even if he/she knows that it is way too low than that!! 😉 😛
that old hollywood actor’s name is Gregory Peck…but i havent hrd it in the news…u dont need to…watch a peck’ movie and ull know
Well written Deep! I wish Dev Anand could see this!
When others depend on walking stick, need hearing-aid etc at the age of 82, Dev Anand is the man who has kept us flabbergasted by his tireless enthusiasm during last many years. The question is not the quality of song he sang, rather it should have been the zeal and courage he possessed to venture this act. I wonder if there is any other person of his age in the world of movies acting only as protagonist from the very beginning of his debut film way back in 1946. He might have given up acting in other directors’ films last 30 years back, and this may be for his passion for making his own movies. He is compared by himself only.
You surely meant Bollywood when you said “world of movies”, right? Because I can recall many fine actors who’ve given energetic performances in recent past & these actors can’t be called anything but of old age. Christopher Lee comes to mind in such category, he’s over 80 & if you saw any of his movie you’d know that he’s still much more energetic than Dev Anand. That light saber duel in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, with Anakin & Obi Wan & then Yoda was no piece of cake, considering he was 79 then!! Then again the duel with Anakin & Obi Wan in Episode III which released last year. And if you’ve seen any of the first two Lord of the Rings movie, the role of Saruman also required quite energy which he did pump in. And incidently he’s also been acting continously since 1946, in movies as well as on stage!! Then I can recall Sir Ian McKellen giving pretty good performance in all three of the LOTR movies & he did quite well in X2 as well which came out 2-3 years back!! Then I can also recall Anthony Hopkins who’s given good performances despite being old!!
Coming closer home, Amitabh Bachchan is not young either(though younger than Dev Anand) and he shot for Lakshya in Laddakh despite his age(60+). Ashok Kumar was also old & he acted throughout in lot many movies.
So don’t say such ridiculous things. Dev Anand is not doing something that’s never been done before by acting at the age of 82. 🙄
& I just remembered …..
funny you should say that Dev Anand made his debut in 1946, because I remember seeing a movie of his which was released in 1941. Now how can that be possible? 😉
i think everyone has right to express his view, whatever Dev sahab is doing he is experimenting for touching cinema with different angels, that should not be stopped and who we are to say him please stop it is not according to your well establish image,it is rubbish to say he is try to copying someone, his fans like him in every role what he is performing, it;s amazing and inspired us to be energetic in every age of life.keep it up Dev sahab your fans are looking for your best which is yet to come.
Hi Sahil,
You are absolutely right by saying that everyone has right to express their views and that’s what we are doing here 🙂
No one is asking Dev Anand to stop singing or stop making films but he should really stop making films like he has been making recently…
The idea of touching different issues is great but the way of presenting is bad…so this is where he needs to work out..
If you have seen the movie Mr. PrimeMinister…there is one scene where Dev Anand kisses (french kiss) his Italian wife..who is not even half of his age…(i.e. way tooooooooooo younger than him) so this can be called as bad attempt to look young…
Few more scenes in the same movie makes people feel that..”what the hell is going on?”
This review will give you more idea about it…
If you have listened to the song then you would have got idea about what I am trying to say…there is nothing bad in signing songs..but the selection of songs and the way it should be sung was bad…now if anyone tries to call documentary with some background music a “rap song” then how can anyone digest it?
I just want to say that…the actor is a legend and I respect him a lot but he should really stop making movies like he has been making recently…
Regards,
Deep
right on Deep, btw your blog seems to have become a kind of forum, heh!! 😉
well, I don’t see any obcenity in that, I know some gals who have married men quite a bit older than themselves & you can see vice versa as well, though it can be argued that the trend hasn’t caught on much here in India due to taboo & fear of public shame etc!! 😉
btw, is Dev Anand trying to portray Rajiv Gandhi, b’coz I can recall him as the only PM who had an italian(for non-indian I should say) wife, no??
Oh yeah..Amit..the blog is becoming more like forum now..thanks to Google 😀 hehe
Acutally there is nothing wrong in it but Devanand should be around 80 now and showing him as 40+ is the thing which I cannot digest..so that is what I pointed that Italian wife kissing thing…
About connection with Rajiv gandhi..haha yes..you can say that…may be he wanted to have mix of some Indian politicians and bollywood masala… 😉
